At my school there is a massive map of Europe with Yugoslavia on it
Google maps hasn't updated yet, everything is wrong.
Still not on google maps, doesn't exist
South Sudan is actually better Sudan.
No, (north) Sudan is richer and has a better infra-structure.
No, (north) Sudan is richer and has a better infra-structure.
Yet it just lost 80% of it's oil.
No, (north) Sudan is richer and has a better infra-structure.
Southern Sudan is being assisted by the USA, they'll have a better infrastructure soon.
holy crap that president is an absolute badass
Yet it just lost 80% of it's oil.
The oil is worthless unless it gets extracted.
I want that hat.

Not entirely surprising unfortunately.
Come to think of it, so did the map at my school. :v:
Time to buy cheap ass property.

OH SHIT OIL. BRB GETTING RICH.
Most countries still don't recognise Kosovo as a country, including some European ones. Will this end up going the same way?
Most countries still don't recognise Kosovo as a country, including some European ones. Will this end up going the same way?
Probably not, it's getting widespread recognition pretty fast and it's not controversial at all
I bet there won't be such things as countries.
People will just call it Earth and get on with life.
Northern Earth is best Earth.
Hopefully this proves to be a positive step towards rebuilding Sudan.
Very nice to see a new country, though kinda worrying that President Kiir is very anti-LGBT.
This is why we need to dump school text books and get with the 21'st century using notebooks and such. The geography books in my school cost 80 dollars each and they're so old Nunavut doesn't exists yet and Russia is a lot larger then it is now.

Shit, if North Sudan and South Sudan both recognize this, then why would anyone not?
Mediawiki is being an asshole and not updating the PNG render so it's out-of-date now. Here is the raw SVG

What part of Libya recognized South Sudan? Gadaffi's Libya or the NTC?
What part of Libya recognized South Sudan? Gadaffi's Libya or the NTC?
Qaddafi didn't iirc.
The whole recognition thing is just a formality anyway since no one opposes it, but I find it fun to watch it spread
That hat was apparently given to him by george bush
Qaddafi didn't iirc.
Yup. He said some bullshit about how it sets a dangerous precedent or something. Apparently Qaddafi doesn't support people voting for independence from their government. Who knew?
Google maps hasn't updated yet, everything is wrong.
It's been a day already, what's taking Google so long
Bet they don't have the exact border information yet and they don't want to fuck up.

How odd
Woo, history!
To help south Sudan prepare for independence, Internet giant Google is training volunteers to help improve maps of the new country. While the initiative aims to facilitate development in the south, it also could have political implications.
Lol, they are making it sound like Google is actually helping South Sudanese getting their freedom.

I've always speculated me and like 4 friends with guns could take over and control an African nation for at least a month since each nation has like 20 new governments a year.
Us crackers could probably pull it off
I love that new country smell
Now how will I pass my map test?

Yugoslavia doesn't exist anymore anyway

I find it strange Spain is recognizing it... the only reason Spain doesn't recognize Kosovo as a country is because Catalonia wants independence and ETA has been trying to get independence for the last decades and then they'd give in to independences... heh.
