This is now normal. I avoid TV news for this very same reason. Jon Stewart said something about this when the media was looping the shooting of one unarmed black man.

The group of people in front of the 7/11 also consists of white people as well as Latino people.

It was also indicated that they are standing at the edge of the perimeter of the building that the negotiations are taking place. I don't doubt that police started the barrier in front of the gas station to prevent vandalism but it was never stated that they were there to prevent looters.

You just had a huge BLM protest get displaced all over the city. They've been calling out shit like people trying to start dumpster fires on the scanner. Looting is common with these protests, look at Chicago, Fergusson, and Baltimore.
There wouldn't be 20-30 cops forming a chain between them and the 7/11 if it wasn't an issue.

They are standing there because there is a bus that was instructed to park on the curb nearby in order to take people home who wanted to go home. However, not everyone is REQUIRED to go home or are waiting for other means of transportation. The police are there because that is where they told these people to be.
There is no rioting. There is no looting. Stop perpetuating assumptions of violence just because there is a gathering.
