It's kind of misleading to say that they blew him up with a robot. They used the robot to attempt to disarm the explosive device that the gunman had on/near him. The device detonated, killing the gunman.

I heard they rigged it with a claymore, apparently its something they use to do in Iraq

He was backed into a corner and was being uncooperative in negotiations. I doubt they had much of a choice, this was definitely the safest way for them to handle things.
Maybe it was a bit of an unorthodox way of dealing with a situation, but they had already lost 5 fellow officers. No reason they should risk more to try to save a piece of scum like this that would more then likely just end up being executed anyhow.
IMO, it was a smart move.

There honestly was never a plan to talk anyone down. Either the suspect surrendered on their own or they were going to kill them. Negations are off the table.

The use hostages is what was the negations were about. Their lives are what mattered. The end game for the suspect was being killed or surrendering on their own.

It sounds more like they used one of those charges that's used for detonating bombs. They had the National Guard to back them up so who knows. But you can read more about it here

Correct, I read the thread, came to the conclusion the black dude with the ar-15 style rifle had nothing to do with it, and made my opinion noted that I thought it was crazy white people using the BLM movement as a cover. If a bunch of people on the internet think they found the suspect, the majority of the time its completely wrong, just like it was this time. So sorry, it wasn't a "random assumption", it was a formulated opinion based on the location and event. We were both wrong, you just wanted to act like a cool guy and call out a mod for allegedly not reading the thread, which I did.
