Metal has lost all its purity. I mean, back in the 80's, there is such an incredible magic about it, that just doesn't exist anymore. Infact, I almost despise current metal because of that.
Pretty much all bands I listen to are from the 80's or 90's, or earlier anyway. I would go on, but I don't really think it'll be understood, it's more of a personal thing.

I don't enjoy most modern metal but I certainly don't think that makes it not music.

yeah theres a fuckton of great newer metal out there, just not being played on the radio. bands like cynic, devin townsend, behemoth, and a ton more are progressing the genre, while bands like the devil wears prada and all those other bands are just gaying out and arent even metal.
