Canada has been doing this for years, anytime I've brought laptop they've asked me to turn it on. I don't remember if they ever asked for me to turn on my phone/iPod though
Except that doesn't happen. There isn't enough pressure differential for the decompression to have enough force to suck someone out of an aircraft, maybe if they were stood right next to the hole, it might cause them to stumble, and then in turn fall out of the hole, but suck them out? Complete Hollywood fabrication.
Decompression can suck people out, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Airways_Flight_5390 where a cockpit window blow out, partially ejecting the captain, saved only by there knees snagging onto the flight controls. also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloha_Airlines_Flight_243 where an explosive decompression that tore a sizeable section of the plane, sucked out a flight attendant (being lifted upwards and to the side, before leaving the plane), the rest of the passengers had their seat-belts on, which likely saved them.
