Psychological torture is a type of torture that relies primarily on psychological effects, and only secondarily on any physical harm inflicted. Although not all psychological torture involves the use of physical violence, there is a continuum between psychological torture and physical torture. ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_torture The chinese water treatment doesn't hurt you, it just drips water on to your fucking skull every hour of every day-- That isn't torture? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_water_torture
It doesn't mention anything about solitary confinement in what you just linked. If you use a vague definition like "creat[es] a state of learned helplessness, psychological regression and depersonalization" you could classify about anything as torture. I was reading a thread in SA where a dude accidentally taught his sister "learned helplessness" by playing around in a pool and pushing her head in the water. Was he torturing her?
He's in solitary confinement, he's not being tortured. As terrible as that is, misleading title.
They're failing to provide him with even the most basic needs like the allowance of exercise. He's gonna become fat, unhealthy and have no idea what the modern world is like due to no connection with the outside world. It's psychological torture.
And nothing of value was lost.
Careful, I think this is bannable. :ohdear:
That is why there is no sheets or pillows, so if he succumbs to this supposed "Mental Anguish", or just wanted to off himself, he can't. Try something more original this time.
If you read the article you'd see that he's never been on suicide watch or demonstrated suicidal tendencies, so they have no reason to be denying him sheets and a pillow, not to mention the whole "Constant surveillance to make sure he isn't exercising" bit... kinda hard to suddenly hang yourself without them seeing.
They're failing to provide him with even the most basic needs like the allowance of exercise. It's psychological torture.
No exercise does not make you fat, it's all about what your intake is.
The treatment is nothing different then the treatment given to thousands of other inmates, and he did commit treason...
solitary confinement in prisons usually last from one day to at most two to three weeks, not seven months and even if it happens to other prisoners, it doesn't mean it's right
Oh okay. Well carry on then. He doesn't deserve the right to exercise his own body.
It technically isn't a right. I'm not saying I think he deserves this, but to put him above all of the other inmates in solitary confinement for much pettier crimes is ridiculous.
He is a traitor after all.
Being detained without a conviction, nothing wrong with that!
It doesn't mention anything about solitary confinement in what you just linked.
Maybe not, but solitary confinement is cruel for someone who hasn't proven to be a danger to being around other people. He's well behaved too.
He is a traitor after all.
Yeah, how dare he expose military injustice and corruption!
I'm surprised he hasn't tried to kill himself. After about a month I surely would.
I'd plan my vengeance instead. Oh, and may I remind you..
Yeah, how dare he expose military injustice and corruption!
What he did was a good thing, but that doesn't mean that he didn't commit treason in the process of doing it.
It technically isn't a right. I'm not saying I think he deserves this, but to put him above all of the other inmates in solitary confinement for much pettier crimes is ridiculous.
I dont give a fuck about your technicalities. Seven months of solitary confinement is torture, no matter what 'fine lines' your right's booklets tell you. Its fucking wrong. [editline]16th December 2010[/editline] You can dance around and draw borders with your laws, but it isn't going to change the fact that a human being is suffering immensely for doing something that is not violent. He should be allowed to atleast have some form of social communication to the world. Why can't he call up his fucking mother and talk to her? It's horrifying. Sure, thousands of other people have this as well, but I bet they're in solitary confinement for bad behaviour, and they were also probably in jail for committing a serious crime. They also wouldn't be in solitary for, you know, seven months
He may have no risk of suicide, but they won't take a chance. They want this guy convicted, and they'll give him no chance to prevent that.
Yeah, how dare he expose military injustice and corruption!
He's still a traitor, and will be treated as such.
What he did was a good thing, but that doesn't mean that he didn't commit treason in the process of doing it.
Stop calling it treason, it's annoying. Go read the U.S. Constitution.
The Constitution of the United States, Art. III, defines treason against the United States to consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort. This offence is punished with death. By the same article of the Constitution, no person shall be convicted of treason, unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.
This is treason, leaking military documents to the general public doesn't fall under any of the defined acts. And yep Explodingguy, he's going to suddenly kill himself with a bedsheet, while two armed guards have him under constant surveillance, before they can stop him, sounds plausible.
Yeah, how dare he expose military injustice and corruption!
Yeah! And not to speak about War Crimes! I hope that some "sensible" governments will condemn this.
The french philosopher Voltaire spent seven months in solitary back during the ages of the ENLIGHTENMENT. His punishment was for speaking against the catholic church, they threw him in the bastile for that long.. This is a cruel, primitive way of condemning this man, either way you shake it.. we're doing things like we were in Totalitarian France hundreds of years ago.
He's still a traitor, and will be treated as such.
[citation needed] innocent until proven guilty, and show me what laws he has allegedly broken
I dont want to sound like a country hating dick but. I FUCKING HATE THE US FOR THIS.

Also, this was almost 250 years ago, not 100, and this was soon before Napoleon's time. Napoleon changed a lot of things.
I dont want to sound like a country hating dick but. I FUCKING HATE THE US FOR THIS.
this is just another nail in the coffin
Yep, definite torture.
of course to someone who hasn't left his basement in six years i suppose that wouldn't sound so bad
adhering to their enemies, giving them aid
Giving thousands of classified documents to the entire world (including enemies) no longer counts as giving them aid?
It was 11 months, and they threw him in there for a story they thought he wrote. Also, this was almost 250 years ago, not 100, and this was soon before Napoleon's time. Napoleon changed a lot of things.
Oh yeah. It was eleven. I created a video for it. I didn't say a hundred exactly, I mentioned that it was 'hundreds' of years ago.
we're doing things liek we were in Totalitarian France hundreds of years ago.
I, too, took history, and I realize that Napolean changed things, but the fact still stands that it's a similar scenario-- with an equally similar punishment as well.
What he did was a good thing, but that doesn't mean that he didn't commit treason in the process of doing it.
It's not treason. Learn the meaning of the world before using it incorrectly.
[citation needed] innocent until proven guilty, and show me what laws he has allegedly broken
He released the video of the Helicopter pilots shooting the reporters, leaked the Afghan war documents, along with several thousand more documents, all of which were classified. Treason: 1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign. 2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state. 3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
of course to someone who hasn't left his basement in six years i suppose that wouldn't sound so bad
I don't have a basement.
He released the video of the Helicopter pilots shooting the reporters, leaked the Afghan war documents, along with several thousand more documents, all of which were classified.
innocent until proven guilty in the court of law he's never been charged with any crime. he's being detained in solitary confinement without even being charged. that's a violation of the fifth amendment.
It's not treason. Learn the meaning of the world before using it incorrectly.
It is treason, at least in Canada.
(b) without lawful authority, communicates or makes available to an agent of a state other than Canada, military or scientific information or any sketch, plan, model, article, note or document of a military or scientific character that he knows or ought to know may be used by that state for a purpose prejudicial to the safety or defence of Canada;

He released the video of the Helicopter pilots shooting the reporters, leaked the Afghan war documents, along with several thousand more documents, all of which were classified. 3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
Well let's pretend that the helicopter didn't shoot the reporters, then. Throw it under the table. These sycophantic freaks thinking "HEY HE BROKE LAWS SO HE GOT WHAT HE DESERVED" aren't understanding that their actions are kind of coming from a good cause.. I think a video showing unnecessary violence, regardless of 'classification' is bullshit. Just because the government pastes a 'classified' sticker on a video of their soldiers doing something wrong doesn't mean the leaker/perpetrator is doing something punishable-- in my eyes atleast. Fuck those bullshit laws.
