There goes 75% of the player base.

And there was much rejoicing.
i think i might get this game
Gee, maybe people are fond of the concept of obnoxious children and manchildren who do nothing but regurgitate racist and sexist garbage getting permanently banned from an online community infamous for this kind of toxic behavior.
If don't find racism and sexism funny then you should probably mature some more, or hit the mute button.

Still being your avatar, I see.
An alright thing I guess.
But it's not like people ever really get banned from XBL unless they've literally modified their console.
Just take a look at all the people who have hex edited their Dark Souls save files and continue to do so with impunity.
Good on them if they actually enforce it I suppose.

such a deserved ban
that's like saying "don't like fart jokes you aren't very mature then"
well exactly like

People who think they're too mature to appreciate a certain type of humour aren't very mature, as a rule. But that's neither here nor there. Racist AND sexist jokes can be funny, but only in the company of close friends who know you're only kidding. I don't know if friendships between women are typically the same, but the guys I hang out with take the piss out of each other every opportunity we get, and nothing's sacred, not race, religion or orientation. And we're still good friends.
This is really why I don't play on Xbox live, or let alone my Xbox. I really like the casual fun that is console gaming with friends, but if I want to get online with a fairly decent community I stick to my obscure games and more respected communities.

That or depending on who you are / where you are.
people can make the jokes they do on FP that wouldn't work elsewhere because we're familiar with that. After all.
I think it would be a better solution for the devs to permanently mute those players in-game. They wouldn't lose their player base and there wouldn't be any more of those comments. It wouldn't be an issue for strategy because in pub games no one even communicates, while I assume all scrimmages would be using party audio so muted players could still talk with their clan members or whatever halo has.
edit:
God, some people are morons. How is this suggestion in any way dumb?
Are you people so stupid that you believe it is a better option to flat out permanently ban the players rather than disabling their voice communications? Think of the implications, the game now has less players, there are less people to buy dlc and there are less people who are inclined to buy a sequel. Since this is the halo community it's guaranteed atleast half of your community would violate these rules and permanently blocking half of your player base from online is stupid when the exact same outcome can be achieved without losing any players.
Though I guess you guys don't just want the comments to stop, you want revenge against those mean 12 year olds that made them.
whoops there goes all my plans to be an offensive cockbag to people for no reason
boycotting halo forever

You only gave yourself more dumbs for flaming about getting dumbs.

That's irrelevant. What matters is that permanently disabling the in-game communication of offenders is a better solution in every way than banning. It's clear the people advocating permanent bans have either not thought it through or have no idea what they are talking about.

Overall these communities are much better off without these kinds of people.

If it's irrelevant then why did you do it? Perma-muting somebody won't change anything.

How would they go about trolling people in game? By not helping the team or something?
Disabling communications literally achieves the same thing as the ban, it stops the comments. Though it has the added benefit of keeping a strong player base and allowing for the developers to potentially make more money through dlc and the like.

No it doesn't, they still have access to the text and voice messages, party chats, being an asshat in game to disrupt gameplay. They still have many ways to be sexist.
If 343 Industries wants to ban people from violating the TOS of their game, and Xbox Live, they have every right to. Don't want to risk a ban, don't be a sexist idiot.

And if they send text and voice messages through Xbox live communication instead of through game they get banned by Microsoft for harrasment. Even this could be avoided by making it so the players who are muted can't hear other in-game microphones so they can't tell who is a woman or not.
Care to also explain how they would be an asshat in game?

I never suggested they don't have the right, there are just better options.

Lots of teamkilling.

Then they get banned for teamkilling or whatever their policy is against griefers.
Then they get banned for teamkilling or whatever their policy is against griefers.
Why shouldn't sexist and racist verbal abuse be considered griefing?
Why shouldn't sexist and racist verbal abuse be considered griefing?
Luckily, it is. Beings sexist, racist, or any kind of verbal abuse is a bannable offense on Xbox Live, and any dev team who wants to enforce it has every right to.
Why shouldn't sexist and racist verbal abuse be considered griefing?
Because there are solutions to stop voice chat abuse that are better than banning while something like team killing cannot be easily be stopped by any other solution than kicking/banning.

I don't really play Halo so I don't know what it would be like, but I can't even imagine how horrible League of Legends would be if Riot just started muting people instead of banning them for verbal abuse.
Because there are solutions to stop voice chat abuse that are better than banning while something like team killing cannot be easily be stopped by any other solution than kicking/banning.
No, the solution is to be aware of what cause a violation of TOS, and not do it. The rules are openly available for anyone to read, or just use common fucking sense. It's not like one sexist comment is going to get you banned, when someone gets reported several times, that's when they start getting investigated, if they are caught in the act, or evidence is provided proving they are violating the TOS, then appropriate action is taken against them.

The difference being even in pub games in LOL communication is a must, while in pub games for halo no one ever communicates strategy. Even if there is a scrimmage where communication is more important they can just use the inbuilt Live party chat instead of the in-game chat (which they mostly use anyway).

Why do you keep saying this? I never said they don't have the right to ban people for whatever they want, hell they could ban people for not saying please at the end of every sentance if they wanted to. I'm saying there are alternatives to banning.
