They should just mute them in game for a select period of time. Don't just go perma banning people. Thats a little too harsh
Like a ban is alright but a perma? Jeez
yeah but if you're gonna be unable to discipline yourself in social situations after repeated warnings then why should you not be p-banned
edit:
administrators and moderators don't really wanna deal with repeat offenders who don't keep true to their appeals
as a white cis male gamer, I feel that I have a right to harass people over voip. this is clearly a breach of the first amendment
Or, y'know, they could use the fucking mute button and continue playing the game.
We should do this with Facepunch.
I thought we already did.
Both of those are distinctly covered in the Xbox Live TOS. Sexism however is not.
I thought just harassment in general was
Or, y'know, they could use the fucking mute button and continue playing the game.
I said this already but let me restate it: Muting them doesn't fix the fucking issue.
Now I can't play as racist/sexist Richard Nixon on Xbox Live anymore :(
I thought this was confirmed to be just a rumor.
It is amazing how everyone goes up in arms over a simple and pragmatic measure to reduce rampant sexism.
No one is arguing against the rule, just the punishment.
People are saying the dumbest things in this thread to attack this rule Jesus Christ just go to the Men's Right's forum.
No one is arguing against women. It's against sexism, not misogyny.
yeah but if you're gonna be unable to discipline yourself in social situations after repeated warnings then why should you not be p-banned
No one is saying repeat offenders shouldn't be permanently banned. It's incredibly rash to permanently ban a first time offender, though.
I thought just harassment in general was
maybe you should read the OP before you embarrass yourself with more of these "but i thought" posts
Sexism on Xbox live is just saying bitch instead of fag.
maybe you should read the OP before you embarrass yourself with more of these "but i thought" posts
Third line, first paragraph
While discrimination has always been frowned upon and punishable by temporary or permanent bans from the servicethe creators behind Halo 4 seem determined to squelch this kind of harassment with a zero-tolerance policy.
Fourth paragraph
That's not to say such attacks haven't been punished in the past on Xbox Live. Not only are players able to report each other for these offenses, but the service is also monitored by "enforcers" who will sit in on games in progress and watch for trouble. Enforcers also review logs for problems and then confront offending players with the evidence of their misdeeds.
Did YOU even read the OP?

There are definitely people saying that the rules are bad, and that it is against misogyny and not sexism. They are wrong.
The Xbox Live Code of Conduct generally condemns harassment between players, either in speech or the content they create. But sexism is not specifically mentioned anywhere in the text. "Racial, ethnic, and religious slurs," are forbidden, as is "content of a sexual nature" and "hate speech," but sexism—attacks based on gender—are not explicitly mentioned.
yeah, i did, and i found this gem that quickly explains that "harassment in general" doesn't include sexism, which is the entire reason 343 is taking action to stop it on their own
It would be pretty neat if women could play online without worrying about harassment merely for being women.
Of course judging by the knee-jerk reactions on the front page of people whining about how women should just get thinker skin it looks like we have a long way to go.

Did you read the whole article or did you only read the first few paragraphs
I wouldn't blame you if you did, but you're arguing something that's factually incorrect.

yes meaning sexism and extreme or unrelenting cases of harassment were still punished but sexism on its own accord isn't listed as a valid qualification for harassment and is treated with less severity than "racial, ethnic, and religious slurs". 343 is putting them on even ground and making it an actual priority rather than just an "ah well its just fun but hey don't take it too far" issue

It's not listed, but you can be banned from xbox live as a whole for any kind of harassment/discrimination. I've known a few people that were banned for just being assholes, not even including discrimination factors.

yeah if you harass someone enough eventually you'll be banned regardless of whether you're being racist/sexist the point is that sexism isn't treated with the same level of severity as other methods of harassment which is why 343 is introducing this rule
[editline]2nd November 2012[/editline]
try to keep up this has been restated like 4 times by now

You called me out for my claim that harassment in general was bannable
and I responded to that comment
I wasn't even talking about the policy
If you want to talk about the policy, that's also stupid because being homophobic/racist won't earn you a permaban.
Gamer gurls around the world rejoice

says who
says who
I should have said on the first offence
I know little of microsoft's policies on repeat offenders
yeah i can't say i give a shit that people will be permad for being sexist sorry
yeah i can't say i give a shit that people will be permad for being sexist sorry
People that do it may be assholes, but mute buttons and repeat offender punishments exist for a reason
there's no reason to permanently ban someone the first time they're an asshole
People that do it may be assholes, but mute buttons and repeat offender punishments exist for a reason

Uh if they are playing halo 4 on Xbox love and being sexist it probably isn't the first time they are being an asshole
And why should girls be forced to mute everyone who is an asshole, is that solving the problem or just ignoring it?
People that do it may be assholes, but mute buttons and repeat offender punishments exist for a reason

why not lol
i care much more about innocent players enjoying their game than making sure short sighted cunt children are given a second chance to not break rules they should have been observing in the first place. if you have a problem with it either unplug your mic or don't buy the game
[editline]2nd November 2012[/editline]
especially given that children aren't supposed to be playing M rated games in the first place and adults should have the ability to know what is and isn't appropriate to say to strangers online
why not lol

That's a pretty bold statement for someone with a ban history as beefy as yours
That's a pretty bold statement for someone with a ban history as beefy as yours
well you gave it a good try but i guess 5 pages is a bit long to try arguing in favor of sexism, isn't it?
That's he has a right to make discriminating comments because he paid money.
I have a right to call everybody a gay nigger since I pay $100/month for my internet connection. to say otherwise is unamerican and treasonous
[editline]1[/editline]
this is ARE country
[editline]2[/editline]
obongo
well you gave it a good try but i guess 5 pages is a bit long to try arguing in favor of sexism, isn't it?
Nice backpedaling
I've only posted in two of these five pages, and if you had even been paying the SLIGHTEST attention to my posts you would have seen that I wasn't arguing in favor of sexism, rather in favor of not having a zero tolerance policy about it.
Are you going to act like a child or are you going to discuss the topic at hand
