I find it kind of hilarious that people in this thread assume white men are immune to harassment, no one is.
It's like you guys have never used Xbox Live before
What are they gonna do? Remind you that you can get a job relatively easily? Dredge up the truly terrifying fact that you're actually in a fairly good position in terms of discrimination? Or, worst of all, harass you in ways that don't actually have any truth to them at all and, indeed, only a self-conscious, insecure dumbass would care about?
When you're a cunt towards women, there's a good chance you're reminding them of the misogyny that they themselves may very well have experienced. When you're a cunt towards a straight white male however, you're just making baseless insults. There's no way you could cut deep with something like "lol you're white and you have a dick so you could totally get a job p. easily."

Or maybe you should hang out with some minorities for a few weeks. Maybe live at their level as well. Because its shit.
oh boy let me just go back over here and check my cis privilege some more
that has nothing to do with cis lol
this is amazing, and I hope Microsoft isn't going to make them turn back on this decision
Why are women allowed to called men dicks, but we can't call them bitches or cunts without it being sexism? They get away with it in society because they are seen as the underdog; the weaker, less protected human. Face it, women are now equal in society and should be treated equally. Not above their male counterparts. Sure, men have some things better in their life, but we also have some things harder. Women will always think they are treated unfairly until they are the only head of society.
Edit: Also, if a women is actively attacking a man with her fists and he defends himself, why does he get in trouble? Sure he is stronger, but he had no choice. Take for example, the cleveland bus driver.
Edit 2: Do you remember that feminist gamer? I just started watching her youtube video about legos exclusively being marketed to boys and she called it "unfair". Obviously the reason for marketing to boys was because their statistics had shown that selling legos to girls wasn't very profitable. It was not sexism at all. Women have entire companies dedicated to purses, dresses, etc.

Not above their male counterparts. Sure, men have some things better in their life, but we also have some things harder. For example, relationships. A man rarely has a woman actively seek them out let alone 4 or 5 whilst women are competed over all the time. Women will always think they are treated unfairly until they are the only head of society.

Remind me; was there ever a time when calling a man a dick was used to degrade and lower him to the level of a toy or a slave? And I don't mean isolated incidents where some guy got kidnapped or anything like that, I mean on the national level, where people all over the world looked at what was happening and said, all at once, "I see no issue with that."
And the Cleveland bus driver punched a woman in the face. This constitutes as assault. You go to court for assault. We're not going to say "Well since it was an unruly woman I guess it's okay to uppercut her right in the fucking jaw" because that's pre-suffrage, stone age, fossilized bullshit. If we start making exceptions based upon gender alone, we're gonna get into all kinds of wacky (read: retardedly old-fashioned) hijinks!

If you watch the video, she obviously grabbed him by the throat and spit in his face, and then proceeded to punch him. He hit her to stop the punches and tried to throw her off, but she still wanted to fight. How is that stone age? She caused all of that by not paying for the bus and getting angry when confronted.
As a sexist I find this a horrible overreaction.
Baby.
Why are you guys having this discussion? Its not like they stated that they were only going to protect females in the OP
Because, judging from the first few pages, it's quite a popular misconception that being offended by misogyny = being a pussy. This is a misconception worth correcting.
Face it, women are now equal in society and should be treated equally.
I'd like to visit whatever planet you're on.
~~BUT VIDEO GAMES R FOR BOYZ ONLY~~ /caps
Remember, Spartans are female too
What happened to sticks and stones?
What happened to sticks and stones?
Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will hurt forever.
What happened to sticks and stones?
ever considered people don't enjoy being treated like shit by strangers
What happened to sticks and stones?
well I'm gonna go off on a limb here and say that what essentially amounts to a useless, glorified one-liner isn't the best thing to base your philosophy off of.
I mean if I run up to a black guy and call him a negro that's just a word right? and only silly people let words hurt them!!
I mean if I run up to a black guy and call him a negro that's just a word right? and only silly people let words hurt them!!
"Negro" is a poor example. There's the United Negro College Fund around without anyone being offended. A lot of older African-Americans still identify using the term, which got it on the 2010 census form.
The context is what's important. If you call anyone anything with the wrong context and/or intent, that's what offends people.

context literally doesn't matter you heard it here first folks
[editline]1[/editline]
the first and second lines of your posts are contradictory as fuck
[editline]2[/editline]
it's like you remembered what context was half-way through writing your post and couldn't be bothered to erase the first line
[editline]3[/editline]
btw it's extremely obvious that the context of cone's post is somebody randomly calling black people negros to be offensive so not only does your post not make any sense but it's also almost entirely useless
wow
At first I was like, "A studio that's dedicated to making Halo games? That's dumb."
But I gotta say these guys are really winning me over
I mean if I run up to a black guy and call him a negro that's just a word right?
Yes, it is, and they're a shitty person if they let it get to them. Using an example that's actually happened to me, when a group of black people came up to me and told me I was a racist and called me racial slurs, based solely on my skin and my clothing, I just smiled and shrugged them off and told them to have a nice day.
Whenever I hear about stuff like this, I always think of how language barriers sort of make this irrelevant. I mean, if you're calling someone a racial slur in english, someone will probably pick up on it, but if you're talking in a more obscure language like romanian, or afrikaans, or hebrew, or ANY of the smaller chinese dialects, you can't be caught. Seems awfully geared towards the bigger languages like english, french, Mandarin chinese, etc.

what makes you say this?
i'm p. sure moderation teams have professional translators in order to be consistent with enforcing things

It's really not that simple. Most people are not robots who can simply shut down their ability to experience emotion from the context of words.
People play video games online to have fun. There is nothing fun about being verbally harassed while playing a video game you payed for on a service that you are paying for, especially if it's over something like being a woman.

what drove them to call you a racist?

is this post serious
what drove them to call you a racist?
To be honest, I don't really know. I was going through a bit of a heavy metal phase at the time, so a couple of things I was wearing had iron crosses on them, but I doubt that was all. For all I know, they were just having a bad day and needed to vent.
As much as I applaud the idea, I'm kinda worried that half the players are going to be banned in the first week of gameplay. I don't get why people are saying that you should just mute a person though, why should somebody have to mute everybody to avoid harassment because of their gender/orientation when the gamemode might involve teamwork?
Maybe they should start it off with week long bans or something unless it's really bad, a permaban is pretty severe considering it's presumably going to be a ~$60 game.
No they don't.
If it bothers you, hit the mute button which has always existed
It's literally one button
Or, you know, don't say sexist shit on Xbox Live?
