What you say can remind someone of some legitimately troubling, ghastly things, and, no matter how they approach it, they're still confronted by sheer fact. Just because a couple black dudes approached you and slung some meaningless bullshit at you doesn't mean you know everything there is to know about how it is to be hurt.

y'know almost everytime I've been on a public halo match there would be atleast one kid calling everyone who killed him a bitch etc, if this works we may never have to deal with annoying kids spamming on they're mics again!

It'd be kind of stupid for them to go straight to permas, yeah. I can't really see any problems in it, people buy a game for the experience, the multiplayer is part of that experience, and if the company wants to try to improve the experience for the majority of the paying customers by kicking out one or two shithead customers, then power to them. It's the same as happens in MMOs and the like, and I've never seen much complaining about that. I don't really think it should apply to private matches, but I doubt that it would. Verbal abuse does do harm, especially to those who are already bullied and suffer from self-esteem issues / depression; just because we can tank off verbal abuse it doesn't mean that everyone can.

You know, I find it hard to disagree with 343 Industries here. And I'll tell you why. Take Facepunch, for example. Mods here tend to ban people when they're flaming, flaming being classified as being a rabid asshat, personally insulting people without presenting any legitimate criticisms of them or their argument. I'm all for free speech, but when it's restricted in an online environment, people automatically fall into line and give all they say more thought before saying it. Maybe some idiots could benefit from being seen, not heard in today's society. You know the ones I'm talking about. Maybe they'd actually think up arguments instead of rhetoric for a change.

I don't see the issue with this is? These types of players annoy the piss outa me. Sometimes I wish they'd do this for stuff like TF2 as well. It really just ruins everyone's fun but it especially ruins the person's they're harassing fun. Not to mention sexism and homophobia are so prevalent in gaming that something needs to be done.

I'm in full support for this decision. Sexist kids are obnoxious and deserve to be banned. Don't give me that "mute them" shit. They shouldn't be harassing female players for just being female in the first place. Besides, it'll improve the community.
