What they were trying to do was a "mic check".
the image posted further up the page had the script for it. being that camera mics wouldn't have picked it up to well, i want to know what someone who was there heard.
[editline]22nd November 2011[/editline]
heckled was a terrible word to use
exactly my point.
You mean they actually escorted someone yelling "War Criminal" while on the Presidents stage during a speech out?
Dear god he must hate Freedom of speech.
I like how Obama just brushes it off like an alpha
"You are the reason why I went into office"
That was it? He just chilled out, listened, and politely asked them to hold their comments? No "Don't taze me, bro"?
Cool, I guess. Occupy protestors (if that's actually who they are) have plenty of reasons to be dissatisfied with his presidency, but I'm just glad they were willing to quiet down and be polite.
i hope this happens a lot more often to a lot more politicians because they're all basically ignoring it
i hope this happens a lot more often to a lot more politicians because they're all basically ignoring it
Wouldn't having happen more often just raise their tolerance levels?

Goes to show that people can be civilized.

i'm not sure how you can raise your tolerance levels to your speech being interrupted
i'm not sure how you can raise your tolerance levels to your speech being interrupted
Easy, have it happen to you a couple times, and after say, the third time, have an alternate speech to give in case of an interruption. You may not like it, but you will be prepared.
...an alternative speech that does what exactly?
if it actually addresses the protesters rather than peddling bullshit like Obama has been when asked about it, then mission accomplished! if not, then I see no reason people are going to stop doing mic checks

An alternate speech that is specifically tailored to calm down malcontents while making it sound as if you are being reasonable.
My only point is that it is very hard to throw a politician more than once or twice. If you don't get him to react to you the first few times, chances are he will have built up a tolerance or an alternate plan in case of an interruption.
Wait, I couldn't even tell what they were saying, how does NBC know they're OWS protestors?
way to go, biased media. At least try not to blatantly LIE to viewers about shit you don't fucking understand.
It's not an unreasonable assumption. Occupy protesters have been "Mic Checking" numerous politicians. I would say a large portion of Occupy is also anti-Obama(with good reason). So Occupy heckling Obama wouldn't be outrageous.

After you have it happen a few times you begin to get used to it. It's like a comedian being boo'ed. It happens to the best, you just have to get used to it and not let it ruin your act.
the people doing these mic checks are already annoyed by the "appearing to be reasonable" speeches in response to questions about OWS.

any politician ignoring a mic check completely is going to look either very foolish or very out of touch. probably both.
the people doing these mic checks are already annoyed by the "appearing to be reasonable" speeches in response to questions about OWS.
I agree with their sentiments completely. I never enjoy politicians being moronic and the instant they get asked to answer a serious question or to form a solid opinion on something, they shy away from it. However, that is simply what politicians do. You can't change that by electing someone else or by "mic checking" people during speeches. It simply doesn't work. As shown by Obama stonewalling today.

Yea you can. It's called "voting in honest politicians".
RT has a heavy anti-america bias. They are like the Russian Fox News.
At least they broadcast the Russian Red Square Marches
I love how he handled that nicely.
If that was bush those kids would of gotten arrested right there right then.
If it was Bush he'd start talking about bananas and his dog bob.
At least they broadcast the Russian Red Square Marches
Generally BBC America covers that.
I was surprised by how well he handled it. Of course the protesters were still detained/escorted out, but that is to be expected.
Here is a video of Bush.

"We believe in free speech!" *woman trying to speak is hauled away*
I find this video ironical.
I love this. Occupy Wallstreet successfully gets their voice heard. For real. Not in some internet petition bullshit.
They take it to the president.
The BIG question now is, will he do anything about it?
Generally BBC America covers that.
I get to watch it on youtube.
You can be as civilized as you want, but it's not changing the situation.
If you shut when someone asks you to, then you're not really protesting.
Occupiers heckle Michelle Bachman - "Woohoo, go OWS!"
Occupiers heckle Ron Paul - "Yeah, stick it to him guys!"
Occupiers heckle Obama - "Pfft, who says they're with OWS? It's probably just some butthurt Tea Partiers amirite?"
That's the general reaction I've seen on the internet.
Yea you can. It's called "voting in honest politicians".
show me an honest politician.anywhere in the world.
fifty bucks says such a thing doesn't exist
Wow look at how liberal all these Occupy Protesters are, eating out of Obama's hand, they're just a product of the Democrat spin machine
If you're not in chains, you're not free! Support the industry, Support a free America!
In chains.

I'm an honest politician. I'm just not active. First priority is to force common sense in America. I expect it to take 20 terms.
Occupiers heckle Michelle Bachman - "Woohoo, go OWS!"

haha what lol
The internet hates Obama only slightly less than they hate republican politicians

uh what. i've heard nothing but praise for this action everywhere but facepunch, and i wouldn't be surprised if the word "heckle" had a lot to do with that.
Oh god the audience... "Obama, Obama"... Sick.
Someone inciting unrest? Must be OWS.
I swear all American media and politics does is try and find a scapegoat/enemy, make them a target to draw attention away from the real issues.
Watch the video though, if they aren't Occupy protestors they seem to be protesting about something.
It's basically a kind of faschism. Wars have been exploited for similar reasons for god knows how long.
Wait, I couldn't even tell what they were saying, how does NBC know they're OWS protestors?

What?
That camera that was recording Obama I'm sure was the news station's camera. And if there was a camera, then there was also probably a cameraman and reporter. Both of those people I'm sure could have heard what the protesters were saying much better than the microphone that was likely several yards away from the people chanting. If they report that they were chanting some OWS shit, then I'm sure it's reliable. Plus there were hundreds of other people there who I'm sure heard what they were saying. Has anyone else come out and said that it wasn't OWS?
C'mon now... Just because you couldn't hear what they were saying doesn't mean they weren't #occupy protesters.

They do that to make the people interrupting him shutup. Heckling is rude.
