If I was a gay guy in the military, I don't know that I really would want everyone to know I was gay. I think I would be in constant fear for my life.
Is it that bad where you live? Here in California a lot of people 17-30's aren't really opposed to gays, and even more simply don't care.
Still 13,000 people got kicked out and will more then likely never get their job back. Kinda a big deal if you ask me, being wrongfully terminated and forced out of the military - not based on work ethic, attitude or their capabilities, but because of their sexual orientation.
If you were discharged under DADT, you can rejoin.
Finally. Lets celebrate :v:
Now if we can raise the taxes on the rich, I'll consider America on the road to recovery. :D Still, great job on finally getting this bullshit policy repealed. I have no doubt alot of gays in the armed forces are rejoicing right now and who could blame them. Hooray for progress!

wat if its a shrak
anyway good news fr gays
DADT didn't make sense what so ever.
Yea it did and it worked exceptionally well. If it wasn't for DADT we still wouldn't have any gays in the military. DATD allowed us to bridge the gap between inequality and equality.

Are you being serious with me right now?

"Introduced by President Clinton in 1993 as a compromise step to full equality, DADT allowed gay and lesbian members of the military to serve only if their sexuality remained secret or was not reported."
"The policy was introduced as a compromise measure in 1993 by President Bill Clinton who campaigned on the promise to allow all citizens to serve in the military regardless of sexual orientation.[15] At the time, per the December 21, 1993 Department of Defense Directive 1332.14,[16] it was legal policy (10 U.S.C. § 654)[17] that homosexuality is incompatible with military service and that persons who engaged in homosexual acts or stated that they are homosexual or bisexual were to be discharged.[15][18] The Uniform Code of Military Justice, passed by Congress in 1950 and signed by President Harry S Truman, established the policies and procedures for discharging service members."
DADT allowed gays to serve in the military and pave the way for gays to be accepted.
In the American MILITARY possibly.
Where I am (California), gay people like myself aren't hard to find.
North Cal or South?
I'm saying mainly due to the fact the Southern part of Cal is very conservative.
YEAH
Compared to them not being allowed at all, yeah it looks like a good policy. Compared to just giving them the rights they deserved in the first place, it looks like shit.

You can't just change shit over night. It took nearly 2 decades before DADT was ready to be repealed. Change has to come slow, and you can't force change.

Most discriminated against groups of people don't have the luxury of waiting for bigots to finally change their mind or die off.

It doesn't matter if they have that luxury or not. Forcing change just doesn't work. Change is a slow process. It took almost 100 years after slavery had ended for blacks to begin having the same rights as whites.
And I'm not saying just to wait for change. Waiting for change doesn't work either. You just have to realize the process of change is not short and it is not easy.

I don't like how the second paragraph is saying that they are better than anyone else. Either way I think it's great. Gay people are much, much nicer in general.

It's the fucking military, they wouldn't tell their soldiers anything less than they are the best. Who would want to fight for a nation that isn't the best?

I was about to launch into a tirade then but i realized you were talking about the letter, not DADT as a whole.
You still suck for liking DADT though. I'm GLAD this is gone, Even being british.
I'm surprised it's actually gone, for real this time.
Then again, it didn't go without a fight...
And who knows, one of those gay soldiers might have been able to kill Osama 5 years earlier.
Osama's still alive

Can't tell if you're a conspiracy nut or just really late.
Just what we need, more soldiers to send to Afghanistan to be maimed and have their legs blown off.
God bless.
US military now 90% less effective, Chinese invasion imminent
The DOD finally realised they can't afford to lose a portion of their cannon fodder just because they are gay :v:
No but seriously this is p. good.

It's a good way to get rid of the gays. Just ship them off to the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan and let them fend for themselves.
Obvious ulterior motives here.

I'm glad it's gone too, it means DADT has done its job. You don't understand me at all. I think DADT was a step, that doesn't mean I support it indefinitely.
