http://www.fox32chicago.com/news/crime/227116738-story Stories like this honestly are utterly terrifying to us Trump Supporters. Shows the utter disgusting nature of what polarization and refusal to communicate as civilized adults can do.
If it hadn't been this, it'd have been something else. People who are unhinged enough to kidnap and torture folks for amusement are so volatile that they don't need a reason, they just need an excuse. You're not in any more danger now than you've ever been, and the same is true for everybody else. [editline]/[/editline] Just to clarify: this is obviously pretty fucking abhorrent, and I'm not saying that race is irrelevant here -- it obviously played a role in who they targeted. I'm just saying that, in general, you're really not in any more danger right now than you've ever been.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38514759 BBC stating it's listed as a potential hate crime with political motive. Apparently the people torturing the special needs boy removed part of his scalp.
Good job. I hope they enjoy their 6+ years in the prison
Yes there's a clear disparity in reactions and that does bother me but it's not really an excuse to condemn an entire group the way you are.
Sorry lurker here, aren't you the one who had a massive shit fit in the presidential election thread for about 7 pages shortly after Trump won calling all his voters pieces of shit or something? I'm sure as hell it was you so you're one to talk about condemning an entire group. (User was permabanned for this post ("Gimmick/alt" - Sgt Doom))

Absolutely, just awfully fucking disgusting.

For how much I argue on here on sensitive topics, I thought this was the place where racism got called out, not excused as part of the process.

For how much I argue on here on sensitive topics, I thought this was the place where racism got called out, not excused as part of the process.
hold up now, as evidenced by the past 8 pages a lot of people called this out for what it was save for a couple of people as usual, you cant paint everyone with that brush.
Chicago police say they don't believe a man beaten in an assault broadcast live on Facebook was targeted because he was white. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Thursday morning that charges are expected soon against four black suspects. Guglielmi says the suspects made "terrible racist statements" during the attack, but that investigators believe the victim was targeted because he has special needs, not because of his race. Guglielmi says it's possible the suspects were trying to extort something from the victim's family. Video from Chicago media outlets appears to show someone off-camera using profanities about "white people" and President-elect Donald Trump. Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Wednesday that the victim has mental health challenges, and he called the video "sickening." Guglielmi said police are working with prosecutors "to build the strongest case."
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/latest-police-race-motive-video-attack-44570046 wow the funny part is how it's STILL a hate crime

It's hard to even know at this point but i'd consider myself pretty far left, i held most of bernie's views before he even came into the spotlight so i was pretty happy he gained as much support as he did. But there are a set of ideas typically considered to be "left" ideology which many hold and many don't on both sides of the political spectrum in some unknown proportion which i believe should be pointed out and argued against until nobody thinks that idea is still a good idea. It's the set of ideas that leads to violence and motivates people to commit crimes such as OP, and also motivates deflection of blame, collective responsibility and ideas like "color privledge" and more obviously "mansplaining". One could also call it a specific interpertation of a wider idea. I think there's an important distinction to be made in this thread, as some have pointed out a generalization such as "the left is inherently more violent than the right" doesn't really hold up past first inspection. however, what is completely valid and what i completely believe is that right now there is common "left wing" rhetoric paraded around by most media, in protests and on campuses is indeed far more likely to lead to violence, mainly due to the dehumanization of opposition and the insistence of self righteousness. The insistence that this "isn't a hate crime" now even by chicago police illustrates this idea pretty well. am i being anal enough with my wording jesus christ why do we even discuss this shit here

Just like the GOP/right having to realign itself now, it is needed on the DNC/left side. Especially since the last election proved it probably won't work to stay the same way.

The fact that some news media outlets are saying it wasn't a hate crime, shouldn't be writing articles.
The fact that some news media outlets are saying it wasn't a hate crime, shouldn't be writing articles.
Are they saying it wasn't a hate crime or are they reporting the police saying they don't think it's a hate crime.
Are they saying it wasn't a hate crime or are they reporting the police saying they don't think it's a hate crime.
The only reports are on that, so whoever the police are, that are saying it isn't a hate crime are idiots. I mean, really? Come on. It's obvious. Now apparently with people saying it's #BLMKidnapping, apparently THAT'S racist. So it's good to be racist to whites, but never ever talk badly about others.
MSNBC reports that they've all been charged with a hate crime, among other charges
Jordan Hill, 18, of Carpentersville, is charged with aggravated kidnapping, hate crime, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, robbery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and residential burglary Tesfaye Cooper, 18, of Chicago, is charged with aggravated kidnapping, hate crime, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and residential burglary. Or rather slither back and retract their statements as if they didn't speak as if they knew legal knowledge over others with impunity.
I hope this at least gains a silver lining in the form of awareness towards this kind of racism which plenty of people still deny.
Rightful charged with a hate crime. Hopefully convicted and punished accordingly.
I honestly seriously don't care if their lives are ruined at this point. You don't target disabled people you sick fucks.

Also,
I've already said that you could make the case that this was racially motivated a hell of a lot easier than it being politically motivated but either way you would need to conduct an investigation to be sure.

I think racially motivated is a pretty reasonable assumption to make.

Even if they don't get hate crime charges (which would be inexcusable given what was said today) they are still looking at 20+ years
[editline]5th January 2017[/editline]
I honestly seriously don't care if their lives are ruined at this point. Maybe I just didn't read the thread well enough but where's the people saying that this isn't a hate crime? It obviously is and that's what I see posted.
Anyone on the opposing argument now want to continue saying this was possibly not a hate crime?
I'm still confused about the whole dick measuring thing and who exactly I'm trying to impress.
Yourself, mainly.
Why was there any discussion about this? It's a blatant racially and politically motivated hate crime. This should be plainly obvious. Now, if Dylann Roof gets off scot free and these guys go to jail, we could discuss institutional racism, but as of now there shouldn't be 9 pages of discussion about this.
Yourself, mainly.
Well AaronM202 said I was trying to impress "people" so I don't think that's quite what he meant. In any case I thought we were all having a decent enough conversation.
One of the torturers posted on FB from her holding cell not a very smart woman
