• Beijing residents starting to leave as they're unable to cope with the terrible air quality

I've been to Beijing, and I've gotta say that it can really get awful there. For three of the days that I was there we had clear weather, but after that the smog rolled in and I couldn't read the signs across the street from where I was staying. When it's bad, it's really bad.
That looks like something out of a post-apocalyptic drama
Apparently Beijing is now turning into Silent Hill, more like.
They must have a lot of acid rain holy shit
Maybe the Chinese government will become so embarrassed they will start to do something about it. They are just starting to try and curb the worst excesses of pollution at the moment. Also it's true, they have started to do things like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Wall_of_China http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/feb/04/china-green-tax-polluters?CMP=twt_gu
Why would someone disagree with you or call you dumb?
This is a lot like Los Angeles in the 1970s. Which makes sense, because China's environmental regulations and enforcement are 40 years behind the US.

Don't worry guys just put a Sharper Image air filter in there and it will be clean in no time! :v:
Wow, the smog is so thick and monotone that it reminds me of old ass games with super short draw distances. Hell, it even makes the buildings and ground look like bad textures. O_O
Man, that is horrendous.
I dread to think how bad their version of the Great Smog is going to be.
do them masks even work in this level of pollution?
If I went there I would wear nothing short of a full gas mask.
do them masks even work in this level of pollution?
Such pollution causes more than just respiratory damage, simple contact with skin is enough as your body naturally absorbs it. The masks are pretty effective for preventing the worst of problems if they are using charcoal filters, which I assume they are as that is standard for places such as North America and Europe. However they degrade over time and the filters themselves can worsen respiratory problem over long continued usage if I'm not mistaken
However they degrade over time and the filters themselves can worsen respiratory problem over long continued usage if I'm not mistaken
yeah, that's why soldiers always carry spare filters, and wear some kind of cover over the masks.
