In like a hundred years they'll make a move about 9/11 and people will be all, "Holy shit it really happened?"
Speaking as a huge Titanic buff this pained me greatly.
You don't know something you don't post that on the internet.
These people have gone to school, school won't change the facts that these people don't want to learn and that society basically looks down on being smart. (negative terms like "geeks, nerds, etc.")
Claiming people are idiots for not knowing about something that happened a century ago is pretty stupid. [editline]14th April 2012[/editline] How about I stuff you into a locker
How the fuck can you not know that? That's like not knowing that World War 2 was a real thing.
Well actually I had a friend who thought WWII took place in the 1800's and thought Jews were the perpetrators. I am not kidding.
and on the other hand plenty of ships have sunk and no-one would have cared about ignorance of the Titanic if it wasn't for popular culture mythologizing it. so to the mainstream it doesn't really even matter anymore if it did actually happen or not.
Every generation would have a bunch of morons, but before it was not as easy to show the dummys thought on a international scale for everyone to see.
The fuck are they teaching in schools nowadays? We learned about the RMS Titanic disaster in the 4th grade!

I haven't even seen the movie. Thought my parents were going to take me to see it when I was younger, instead it was a documentary about it. Still, that probably did me more good than watching the film.
also I find your avatar highly suggestive and disturbing
read The Story of The Eye... let's just say bjork can make eggs disappear.
Really? How can you simply not know of the Titanic? It's pathetic!
I learned about the Titanic before I even went to School.
Looking for idiots in Twitter is like searching for water in the middle of the sea, what news is there to see? Also, this generation isn't necessarily dumber than the previous ones, it's just that we're more aware of its stupidity than we were before. You simply can't expect an entire generation to be smart, that's on a whole new level of stupidity.
Yeah, social media makes it easier to spot the idiots which would otherwise congregate outside of your common social circles.
All we need is a bottle of chlorine to be splashed into the gene pool to get rid of these kind of people. Like how hard is it to raise your kid to read and learn instead of becoming this dumb. FUCK MY GENERATION.
Their parents usually are just as misinformed. So the children have no drive to learn any of this extra data.
I personally can't blame them. I knew about the real titanic only because I did some research myself. We were never taught about it at school and I don't think I've ever stumbled upon the event on the internet. It's really not that popular. WW2 had impact on most of the world as the name implies. Titanic is just a ship. Even then, there's not much reason to know about the event as the only lesson you get is "don't boat into an iceberg". I don't get why the "smart" people get so riled up when someone doesn't know much about history. After all it happened long before I was born and knowing these events does not really benefit me in real life. But I guess smartasses always need something to jump the "ur dum, I'm smart" ship. And the fact that people go all "omg idiots" when these idiots learn history is even worse. This makes people insecure and scared, thus scared of education or asking for help because the smart people will call them stupid and flame them to death for wanting to learn.

suddenly: ad hominems are valid arguments!
Retarded kids, read a book, no wait.... Just work at school
snip
Wow, they sunk too low on this. Sad.
Retarded kids, read a book, no wait.... Just work at school
I actually don't remember the titanic ever mentioned in school. It's just such a well known cultural symbol that you don't have to. That said I knew about the sinking even before the movie so who knows. Might have an impact.
...Fucking Wow. Im losing faith in the world, i really am.
...Fucking Wow. Im losing faith in the world, i really am.
Then you're an idiot.
How are people dumb if they don't know some boat sunk 100 years ago? It just points out they never watch NGC/Discovery. On top of that, the release of the Titanic movie raised a whole hype about the real thing, educating everyone at the moment of release. That release was quite some years back... Though, doesn't it state at the end/beginning that it's a true story? :v:
maybe they are just trolling
By the way the Second World War was real, too
read The Story of The Eye... let's just say bjork can make eggs disappear.
By eating them, right? Right!?

Pff dumb people not knowing about shipwrecks.
Next they're going to try to tell me that Saving Private Ryan actually happened...
wasn't it based on true events?
You don't know something you don't post that on the internet.
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." -Abraham Lincoln A lot of people could stand to learn from that.
... I'm speechless, I'm too baffled to post something negative about them.
