I know the ending wasn't the best but do diehard Mass Effect fans treat it as cancer all the time or
Just because its not my cup of tea I'm not going to banish it and call it worthless like I know exactly what good literature is.
I know what good literature isn't
and it certainly isn't second rate fanfiction rehash
a rehash of a storyline that wasn't exactly 'good literature' in any sense of the meaning to begin with

I dunno about cancer, but the ending did effectively kill the series badly enough that nothing short of a totally new story in that universe will gain interest now. Most people were just heavily invested in the series though; after five years, THAT was the ending we got, and it was all the more frustrating given the majority of Mass Effect 3 was actually pretty solid.
how can you obsess over something as average as Mass Effect from a narrative point of view.
The first one set up a cool original universe with tons of potential, then EA fucked with it and ruined everything.

EA might have fucked with some of it, but to be honest I put most of the responsibility on Bioware themselves, especially when it comes to the narrative.

Eh, the gameplay was very solid, but a lot of the writing was pretty stupid. EDI/Joker romance for no apparent reason, reapers who have the combined intelligence of an entire species are easily lured into obvious traps, Kai Leng's presence in general. Overall I still enjoyed the game, but I got it a while after the whole ending fiasco played out on the internet, so I was expecting worse.
would you say the same thing about a 400 page MLP erotica?
That analogy doesn't work, you're comparing two entirely different forms of literature and basing the dedication of fans off of that analogy.
Now, I read this guy's re-write. Some of his ideas are great. His endings actually make sense.

Planescape: Torment is essentially "you are good guys these are bad guys kill bad guys"
I take offense to this. In part because the concept of good, bad, moral and immoral is muddle in planescape from the very beginning. Which is somewhat to be expected from a game where you wake up in a morgue with a smacktalking floating skull calling you boss.

Considering what goes on in ME2, I think this failing is pretty much bioware's own. Just think what kind of plot advancements happen in that game.
It doesn't help that they advanced Mac Walters, a dialogue writer in ME2, to Lead Writer in ME3. A guy who knew nothing about coherent plot-lines was suddenly given total control of the game's writing and storyline.

My fuckin' automerge, wraithcat you ninja
Read it through.
Pretty nice, all told. I like how creepy the control ending was.
I'd play a ME3 based off this in a heartbeart. It's got it's flaws, but it's pretty solid all told.
[sp]No Shepard, you are the reapers. Yes, this is legit spoilers for the document.[/sp]
I think he should stick to writing :v:

It's really just the head that ruins it. The rest is pretty okay.
dont diss the first one ok
the first one is maybe the best high fantasy universe I ever knew

fuck gay elves @ 2 tho
Well personally I found DA's universe about as interesting and engaging as Torchlight, but different strokes I guess.

you nerd did you even play that game

"Kind of awesome of the guy, he was passionate enough to write a huge thing about something he really enjoyed.
Gotta love fans somtimes"
is completely interchangeable with ME or MLP fanfic
Mass Effect is essentially "you are good guys these are bad guys kill bad guys"
Stories have protagonists and antagonists
99% of the time
and for good reason
maybe this is crazy but when lukeo posted that i interpreted it in a way that wasn't super-pedantic and stupid?
like to me it was obvious that he was saying Mass Effects interactions between the different "factions" were shallow and that it was laden with false dichotomies

"Please kill me" mutters Garrus.
I'm currently writing my own version of Matt Smith's regeneration in Dr Who, can I send that to the news
I hope a gaming news site will cover my crossover fanfic saga of Modern Warfare and Persona 4.

effort and passion only matter when it comes to things that the beholder cares about, basically
What has baffled me for years is something as mediocre as Dragon Age being regarded so highly by some people. It is a mystery.
What's so baffling about having an opinion?
I've played the first level of ME3 and the demo of ME2.
They were both boring and generally bad. It felt like I was playing a game with a tenth of the production value. You may be able to fix a story, but it's the gameplay you need to deal with.

Not when you're comparing a fan of a game series known for dark drama, good plotlines and action to a fan of a kid's show that has completely different tones and themes.
It's still not a fair comparison.
I don't think Mass Effect 3 was worth entirely rewriting, but as a huge Mass Effect fan and an avid fan-fiction lover (and fuck all who hate fanfics), this is a nice initiative. I'll be reading this.
I only wish some of the best fan-fictions I know could get this much attention.
Speaking as someone who has done a novelisation of Skyrim, this blows my fuckin' mind.
I mean, that thing got to 100 pages; I can't imagine getting it to 400.
It's this kind of mindset that keeps video games from being respected as another medium. If it was a movie or book, people would be a lot more lenient towards it.
I can understand the rise of fanfiction and having stuff that take place in the same universe that some video game created, but creating a novel-sized piece of writing that was a part of a reaction to the conclusion of a video game series. That is a little overkill.
If he has been a career-writer or takes writing for a hobby then I'll understand him more.
