He's far from crazy. Well, not that far. He's actually an incredibly brilliant and charismatic man, who was able to convince people to go out and kill for his cause, without getting any blood on his hands. I want to make some sort of witty comment comparing him to politicians, using the phrase "The only difference is nobody voted for him," but I can't think of anything.
Not far enough from crazy to not slaughter a pregnant woman and her friends. Not brilliant enough to stay out of jail. Just because people only remember him being weird in Youtube videos and not the things he had his people do doesn't make him any less of a monster. Let's have a refresher:
On August 8, 1969, Tate was two weeks from giving birth. She entertained two friends, actresses Joanna Pettet and Barbara Lewis, for lunch at her home, confiding in them her disappointment at Polanski's delay in returning from London. In the afternoon Polanski telephoned her. Her younger sister Debra also called to ask if she and their sister Patti could spend the night with her, but Sharon declined. In the evening she went to her favorite restaurant, El Coyote, with Sebring, Frykowski and Folger, returning about 10:30 p.m.[1] During the night they were murdered by members of Charles Manson's "Family" and their bodies discovered the following morning by Tate's housekeeper, Winifred Chapman. Police arrived at the scene to find the body of a young man, later identified as Steven Parent, shot to death in his car, which was in the driveway. Inside the house, the bodies of Tate and Sebring were found in the living room; a long rope tied around each of their necks connected them. On the front lawn lay the bodies of Frykowski and Folger. All of the victims, except Parent, had been stabbed numerous times. The coroner's report for Tate noted that she had been stabbed sixteen times, and that "five of the wounds were in and of themselves fatal".[3]

Jay Sebring, pictured here with Tate in 1966, was killed when he attempted to defend her against the attackers.

Not far enough from crazy to not slaughter a pregnant woman and her friends.
I find this funny because he never actually killed anyone. He told his family to, and they did. I'm not saying the man is a genius, but he can't be as batshit insane as people make him out to be if he was so easily able to manipulate people into killing. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline]
[img_thumb]http://www.bittenandbound.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/charles-manson-got-old-in-priston-now-74.jpg[/img_thumb] riiiiight
Because looks determine everything.
I find this funny because he never actually killed anyone. He told his family to, and they did.
It doesn't take much charisma or charm to convince a couple of doped up runaways during the glory days of doped up runaways to do shit for you. This is a guy that thought he heard prophecies from Beatles songs about an apocalyptic war which would result from the murders he had people commit.
I find this funny because he never actually killed anyone. He told his family to, and they did.
Wow, just like Hitler! Well, that's all right then. I have no idea why you're so determined to idolize this guy but it's pretty creepy and weird.
Wow, just like Hitler! Well, that's all right then.
Strange, I thought I'd be the first one to bring up Nazis. Sadly, I can't stay up for the huge thread derail as it's 10 PM, I haven't eaten yet, and I have class tomorrow.
Because looks determine everything.
Notice that thing right between his eyebrows?
Ring-A-Ding-Ding?
Fallout: New Vegas
I'd welcome him into my life instantly over any other asshole on this planet. Poverty makes people do reckless things, but corporations do worse to protect their bling.
I don't think Manson's predicament is due to poverty. [editline]14th February 2011[/editline] He's beyond the pale.
Notice that thing right between his eyebrows?
I'm guessing he got that when he was in jail.
In comparison to shit like Jack the Ripper, and even more modern serial killers, what Charles Manson did barely counts as a crime.
what does that have to do with anything you just sound like a person who secretly fantasizes about controlling people so you create a moral system where you can not only absolve charles manson of any real crime but you can also see him as a role model it's stupid, sorry if you wanna idolize people, idolize people that do good all charles manson has done is be a lunatic on camera and plan a horrendous crime i don't know how i should classify him as anything except a waste of human potential [editline]14th February 2011[/editline]
I don't think a "blood thirsty loon" would be so easily able to convince people to do the shit that they did, let alone bother with convincing other people at all.
how does being a blood thirsty loon mean any of that at all are thom yorke and bjork nicer people well let's see: they make great music they give a lot to charity they've aided other artists in their attempts to reach an audience they haven't killed anyone they've been an inspiration to people all over the world charles manson passes none of these specifications so i can safely say thom yorke and bjork are far better and nicer people than charles manson
Wow, just like Hitler! Well, that's all right then. I have no idea why you're so determined to idolize this guy but it's pretty creepy and weird.
Because comparing the leader of a small group of people who murdered 9 people is totally the same thing as a guy leading a political group, and nation, in the genocide of of millions while trying to take over Europe. Riiiight.
Actually, for the first cell phone he had, he sang someone a voice message wishing them a happy birthday. I don't think he's as crazy as people make him out to be.
He was the mastermind behind 7 murders or so was he not? Yeah completely sane, no sandwiches short of a picnic and all his nuts and bolts are all quite tightly in place. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline]
Fact: Manson never actually killed anyone.
Fact Osama Bin Laden didn't technically kill anyone. We all still want him dead.
Fact: Manson never actually killed anyone.
he was directly responsible and he was charged with murder
We all still want him dead.
"We all"? :smug:
"We all"? :smug:
You don't want him dead, you're in the minority the guy should be split from the neck down.
he's old as fuck let him stroke
What's with all the love for this guy? He's in prison for a reason  [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] Can't he apply for parole in 2012?
Actually, for the first cell phone he had, he sang someone a voice message wishing them a happy birthday. I don't think he's as crazy as people make him out to be.
No he's a madman, but that doesn't make him any less human. He's one of those crazies I'd like to meet, shake hands with, joining the ranks of various other charismatic nutjobs
You don't want him dead, you're in the minority the guy should be split from the neck down.
I'm not even sure what the guy has done to deserve that. :v:
I'm guessing he got that when he was in jail.
during the trial of Charlie, the brides of chucky all put those on their foreheads, after he did.
He's the Goddamn real-life equilevant of Joker, of course people will idolize him.
Because comparing the leader of a small group of people who murdered 9 people is totally the same thing as a guy leading a political group, and nation, in the genocide of of millions while trying to take over Europe. Riiiight.
The amount of people you kill doesn't change how "evil" you are.
what the fuck is the matter of half of the people in this threads? why are they justifying or idolizing a monster that convinced doped up people to murder innocent people? i guess his charismatic charms are true
what the fuck is the matter of half of the people in this threads? why are they justifying or idolizing a monster that convinced doped up people to murder innocent people? i guess his charismatic charms are true
I was a horrible thing to do, but it wasn't an easy thing to do.
what the fuck is the matter of half of the people in this threads? why are they justifying or idolizing a monster that convinced doped up people to murder innocent people? i guess his charismatic charms are true
Like I said, they're probably just lonely misogynists who wish they could get women to obey their every command.
I have no idea why you're so determined to idolize this guy but it's pretty creepy and weird.
I'm not idolizing him. He manipulated people into doing horrible things, and was promoting a race-war fueled apocalypse. He's neither a prophet nor an admirable person. But if you don't recognize a person's strengths, you're more liable to be overcome by them.
you just sound like a person who secretly fantasizes about controlling people so you create a moral system where you can not only absolve charles manson of any real crime but you can also see him as a role model
I'm not.
it's stupid, sorry
So are assumptions.
all charles manson has done is be a lunatic on camera and plan a horrendous crime i don't know how i should classify him as anything except a waste of human potential
You obviously haven't seen everything he's done. Educate yourself a bit before you judge someone. Scratch that, educate yourself about people before you judge anyone.
how does being a blood thirsty loon mean any of that at all are thom yorke and bjork nicer people well let's see:
Let me answer that with this:
what does that have to do with anything

they make great music
However, whether or not anyone is a great musician is debatable. It's an opinion.
they give a lot to charity they've aided other artists in their attempts to reach an audience

what does that have to do with anything

they haven't killed anyone
Fun fact: Neither has Charles Manson.
they've been an inspiration to people all over the world
You do realize that Charles Manson also inspired people, right? I mean, to do horrible things, but still. You should probably be a bit more specific.
charles manson passes none of these specifications so i can safely say thom yorke and bjork are far better and nicer people than charles manson

what does that have to do with anything
I want to make some sort of witty comment comparing him to politicians, using the phrase "The only difference is nobody voted for him," but I can't think of anything.
Uh no, he was pretty batshit insane. If you have done any reading about what his cause was (helter skelter) you would understand. Basically he believed that the black man was going to take over (due to the prevalence of the black panther party at the time) and Charlie was convinced that he and his 'family' would have to stop it. They first killed the LaBiancas and wrote on the wall a message that lead the police to believe that the black panthers were responsible. Then the night when he had Tex, Susuan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkle and another girl (who was actually acquitted because she proved she had done nothing and helped convict Charlie) he told them to go to Sharon Tate's house and 'kill anyone there in the most brutal way.' He did all of this because he was convinced the black man was about to take over. After the black man took over (apparently it was inevitable), Charlie would retreat to the desert into an infinite sinkhole and some amount of time until their numbers massed to 144,000 (which had something to do with Revelations in the bible), and then Charlie would come up and tell the black man to get back to picking cotton. If that's not crazy, I don't know what the fuck is [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] Also, about how you said Charles Manson never killed anyone: Read about Donald 'Shorty' Shea. Tex Watson, as well as many other members of the family claim that Charlie was in fact the one who beheaded him, and he was actually convicted of murdering him.
