As much as I want Steam for PS3 to available in other PS3 games I doubt that will happen because it would be directly competing with PSN on a grand scale. Heck we are lucky Sony let Valve do this for Portal 2.
i doubt Sony really cares about them doing this. if anything, it will get more people to purchase the PS3 version.

what are you talking about
the pc userbase is notoriously elitist, what's a few more gonna do?

Or Sony and Valve have this huge partnership where Valve replaces PSN with Steam?

they shall make us stronger so that we can take down xbox live
Portal 2 offers cross-platform matchmaking
Console Vs. PC arguments ahoy!
But then sony raids your house
Maybe I read it wrong, but does the whole "Buy on PS3 get it on PC" thing only apply to the one account? Because I wanted to get it for PS3 so my friend could have the PS3 version, and I'd get the PC version for myself.
I'm going to buy it on the PS3 so I can play co-op with my sister on the PS3 and singleplayer on my PC.

From what I can gather, if you buy Portal 2 on the PS3 you have to link your PSN account to your Steam account, which I believe would mean that when you go on Portal 2 on the PS3 you'd have to sign into your Steam account as well.
In the way you're entailing, I don't think it'd work. However, I could be wrong.
i wonder how used portal 2 on the ps3 will work
will you still be able to use the online features at all? or would you be SOL without a code?
of course, if valve's support is as liberal as harmonix's, you could email them and say you lost your code.

Delicious, delicious irony.
They still haven't talked about being able to download the PS3 version if you own it on PC/mac though.
They have. It will only work one way (getting the PC version for free with PS3).

Just pre-ordered Portal 2 for PS3 from play.com. Can't wait to play the game :D
why would one dread steam on ps3?
i would love it if they made the steam client for ps3, where you could buy and download ps3 games on it. no more disks. they always get lost/scratched
You have to really be trying to scratch a blu-ray disc to the point where the game no longer works.
YAY
:woop:
I'm not so worried about that fact that Steam is coming to the PS3 specifically, I would be just as worried if it was steam for Xbox.
I'm more worried of the fact that Steam is coming to a console. Not a specific console. But just right there. A console. Consoles IMO are a step in the wrong direction for Valve. L4Dlc started to point towards consoles (Matchmaking, hardcoded skins, mod support being patched in months after release, or in L4Dlc2's case: VAC bans for custom skins, and finally the occasional leftover from the Xbox), and I have a feeling that with Steam for any console, or more for that matter, Valve making deals with a console holding corporation, worries me.
Valve... Y u no PC exclusive?
This sounds cool but it also sounds like it'll clash a lot with what the PS3 already has set up. Sure it's better, but I can only imagine what a player who has never used steam would think of this. "Oh great, gotta log into this third party thing while I'm already doing the same thing with the PS3's network?"
I'm surprised sony has allowed such a thing to happen, as it basically discredits their own service.
Though maybe in the future PSN will completely get rid of it's current service, and instead have it be handled under this "steam" platform for playstation.
How awesome would that be? It'd be like Steam having it's own console. I mean obviously the console and networking itself would be under PSN but stuff like friends lists, chatting and achievements/trophies could be under Steam.

Stop being paranoid. Despite popular belief, consoles don't have the cooties. Bro-gamers (who tend to only use consoles) have them.

matchmaking wasn't really a bad idea for l4d
I find the steamplay feature a little unfair. Anyone who buys it on PS3 is also getting what I'm getting, but Valve can't just give me a free copy for PS3 because I own it for PC.
Here's to hoping that valve does something similar with the Playstation version of The Orange Box.

PS3 copy costs more. And it's a way to increase the sales on the PS3. They already know they will sell well on the PC.
I only wish crossplatform was available with Xbox 360. All my friends are getting it for it even though I'm trying to convince them they'll get the short end of the stick.
I don't know why people are so excited by this. All Steam really is, is just an app store that launches your games.
And friends, achievements, and all that other stuff is already on PSN. You wouldn't even need Steam for cross-platform play.
They still haven't talked about being able to download the PS3 version if you own it on PC/mac though.
They have, multiple times. You will not get the PS3 version for buying the Steam version.
It'd be even more cool if I can sign onto Steam without playing Portal on the PS3 to chat or whatever, as well as adding non-Steam games.
Currently the Steam overlay on PS3 is built into Portal 2 itself, so you will only be able to use it with Portal 2.

Only one account for redeeming the Steam Play P2 on PC/Mac, but you could certainly hand your PS3 copy off to your friend and he could play it and even use his own Steam account...but he won't be able to play it on PC like you can.

You can play the game the same, according to Steam Support. The only thing you miss out on without the code is being able to play it on PC too.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Console development hasn't affected the PC side of any Valve game ever.
1. Matchmaking made sense because it was an eight-player game; matchmaking really helps get the right people together when the game is really small like that. You seem to be just using it as a buzzword; it's not a bad thing at all.
2. Hardcoded skins? What?
3. Mod support and SDK tools were late because it was a brand new version of Source. There hasn't been any wait time on previous Valve games since Half-Life 2 because every Source game since HL2 has literally just been HL2 reskinned.
4. Nobody's ever been VAC banned for a legitimate skin. Somebody was probably modding DLLs to enable something they shouldn't have been. This is common knowledge.
5. Leftovers from Xbox? What are you even talking about?
'Valve no PC exclusive' because it makes them more money and expands their userbase, both of which are very good steps forward for any company. They have been developing their PC and console versions in tandem with each other (and hell, they're pretty much the same games exactly save for a few small tweaks; I've poked through the console versions' files before) and they do a very good job of it. In case you haven't seen any of the recent videos of Portal 2 running on 360 and PS3, it looks great. Erik Wolpaw himself even said that the console and PC versions of Portal 2 are comparable in every way, including visuals.
In short: Stop being an elitist idiot and accept the fact that people who play video games on their TVs can now play Valve games on their TVs. It's really not as end-of-the-world as you think it is.
Thank god I have a PS3.

I wish Micro$oft didn't abandon the cross platform multiplayer. But hey, what do you expect from a company that forces you to pay $60 a year in order to play online as well as have to pay for DLC?
I hope my mailman isn't late.
Can't order till monday, and going to have to wait for it to ship...I have to stay off of facepunch so I don't ruin it for myself.
I love the idea of cross platform play, i'd like to see it in some other games with no sides being nerfed.
I will buy the PS3 version and then have both, thanks Valve.
Wait, did I get this right?
- Do you need a Steam account to play it at all on the PS3?
- So essentially it's one key that gets bound to your Steam account, as usual?

It's linked to your Steam account, as in your saves and progress etc. come with you but you can still use it with other accounts.
