Uh, it's not breach of sovereignty if the iraqi government is begging everybody and their mama to come and help them.
Historically, the US doesn't see it that way. They don't want to allow a precedent for rubber-stamped Iranian intervention anywhere in the middle east. It opens the doors to all sorts of strategic nightmares for US interests in the region.

The Taliban, who had developed a symbiotic relationship with al Qaeda, were forcefully removed from power after the United States provided air power and intelligence for the Northern Alliance, Iran's ally. Iranian military advisors rubbed shoulders with U.S. military personnel in the Northern Alliance areas. Tehran even said it would give sanctuary for distressed U.S. military personnel inside its territory. It also allowed the United States to transport humanitarian goods to Afghanistan through Iranian land. Iran reportedly suggested the best targets for U.S. bombers. Iran also participated in the U.S.-sponsored Bonn Conference in December 2001. U.S. and Iranian envoys worked together at the conference-the most fruitful encounter between the two since the 1979 revolution. Both wanted Afghanistan free of the Taliban and al Qaeda. Iran favored the return of President Rabbani, but it agreed to support U.S.-backed Hamid Karzai. The tactical cooperation between the United States and Iran continued, even as they were competing for greater influence in a new Afghanistan. Iranian cooperation with the United States ended in 2002, after President George Bush cited Iran as a member of the "axis of evil."
Iran in there is good because the US doesn't have to get into it.
I doubt the US government sees Iran's intervention as a benign favor. [editline]13th June 2014[/editline]
Uh, they did it in Afghanistan:
There's no oil in Afghanistan, Iran has no long-term interests in Afghanistan. Also that's just a generally significantly different scenario. [editline]13th June 2014[/editline] I mean who really knows it's just my informed guess
Iran isn't some poor, uneducated, corrupted middle eastern country fox news tells you it is.
Exactly. Persian culture is much different than Arab or Afghan culture.
US and EU should just become friends with Iran and use them for gas and as a "peacekeeping" force in the middle east
That's a really bad idea. Arabs and Persians have a lot of dislike of each other. Though a lot of the recent violence is sectarian, you seriously don't want to pile on nationalist and racial violence into that steaming pot with it.
Iraq has always been building ties with Iran, partially I'm sure to spite us, but now all that work becoming allies looks like its going to pay off finally.
Iran has been setting up Iraq to be a semi-puppet, partially I'm sure to spite us, but now all that work becoming allies looks like its going to pay off finally.
ftfy
-snip- wrong thread
They kill terrorists and are a proponent of nuclear energy.
Iran is very different from other nations in the middle east. They are centralized, unified, and prosperous.
Made me curious to look at a video from Tehran, holy fuck their economy is in full-swing, construction works everywhere. Dem suspended highways
ftfy
Pfff, I say partnership you say Usurp. Same difference.
US and EU should just become friends with Iran and use them for gas and as a "peacekeeping" force in the middle east
Actually, when Iran was making nuclear power plants and we were all uppity about it because "B-B-B-BUT DE WEAPONS GRAED!", we should've stepped in and been like "Hey Iran, you said you were making these to help solve your energy problems. How about this: We'll help you try and build a working Thorium reactor. You get tons of good, clean energy, we become closer friends through the process, the rest of the world can calm their tits because you're not refining bomb fuel, AND the rest of the world can learn by YOUR example. Everybody wins!" [editline]13th June 2014[/editline]
I hope if the US acts, it'll just be Special Forces and Strategic Strikes. We can't support another huge invasion bogged down by PR relations and Police work.
But we gotta save dat oil! D:
Iran isn't some poor, uneducated, corrupted middle eastern country fox news tells you it is.
Watching last weeks Vice, I was amazed to see how many people were walking around with fucking smart phones and how modern their cities looked. Iran isn't so bad. Maybe one day we can get along, so long as Israel just shuts the fuck up and we apologize for the shaw or shia or however it is spelled.
I blame your government for that. Here everyone knows Iran is developed because of loads of Iranian immigrants which in fact are very educated and they are less likely to be targeted for looking like Arabs because they tend to adapt very fast to western culture compared to other immigrants.
i remember one iranian kid came to our school the guy was a fucking genius
Why does everyone here have a boner for Iran? This is a country that forces homosexuals to have a sex change and have financed all sorts of charmers over the years.

Also people actually think Iran has been 'misinterpreted' in the American media.
I really hope America and Iran team up to crush these assholes
Because Iran is against Israel and everyone opposes Israel. Also people actually think Iran has been 'misinterpreted' in the American media.
yeah thats totally it
yeah thats totally it
What other reason could there possibly be for people to suddenly decide to be contrarians and stick up for Iran, then?
What other reason could there possibly be for people to suddenly decide to be contrarians and stick up for Iran, then?
Because we're in a thread about Iran chipping in to fight ISIS, hot off the heels of another thread about how ISIS are a bunch of monsters who need to be fought. Even though everyone sort of knows that Iran is only doing it out of their own self-interest, it still makes you want to go, "Good on you, Iran."
TOXX. And I want a video as proof.
What if his hat is in fact, a Nacho hat :tinfoil:
What if his hat is in fact, a Nacho hat :tinfoil:
Even better. Still want the video of that as well.
TOXX. And I want a video as proof.
Jokes on you! He doesn't even have a hat!
Because Iran is against Israel and everyone opposes Israel. Also people actually think Iran has been 'misinterpreted' in the American media.
because it has? the majority of iran's youth is considerably more progressive than their theocracy might lead one to believe. don't accuse people of being short-sighted while making statements of the same sort in the same breath. both israel and iran have aging, bitter public officials that are (albeit understandingly and with good intentions) unnecessarily paranoid and cynical of one another to both of their own detriments. pessimism and failure to empathize with perceived 'enemies' are main reasons why so many people lived with constant idiot fear and spite during the cold war, and it's the same way in this instance.
What other reason could there possibly be for people to suddenly decide to be contrarians and stick up for Iran, then?
because there is no 'good guy' or 'bad guy' in situations like this, just people locked in certain geopolitical and cultural circumstances, ones that force people's hands into making bad (but seemingly necessary) decisions (through fear, distrust, misinterpretation, lack of communication, etc.), which come with unfortunate consequences.
Made me curious to look at a video from Tehran, holy fuck their economy is in full-swing, construction works everywhere. Dem suspended highways
Dat traffic tho. Seriously, that traffic is horrendous. And that's coming from a Russian for god's sake.
I would be really happy if the US and Iran could get along.

Here everyone knows Iran is developed because of loads of Iranian immigrants which in fact are very educated and they are less likely to be targeted for looking like Arabs because they tend to adapt very fast to western culture compared to other immigrants.
Don't even begin to suggest that Canadians are more ~enlightened~ than Americans. I've encountered just as many ignorant racist Canadians as American ones. It's not like there are barely any Iranians around here either. America has well over twice the amount of Iranian born residents here. We actually have the most Iranians outside of Iran on earth. The American government has a problem with their government and pretty rightfully so seeing how they trample over tons of human rights all over the place. It's hard to to be friendly towards a country who's army's slogan is "death to America" after all with anti-American propaganda literally plastered all over buildings. As long as that supreme leader and his hardliners are around I don't see any real progress being made. Anyway I doubt the Iranians are doing this for best reasons in mind but I'm glad at least someone is doing something about these rampaging psychopaths. There are few groups of people that are as low as they are.
