Direct2Drive, Impulse, and Gamersgate will not Sell MW2 for the PC because of Steam

I don't see the problem with D2D. It's the same thing except you're not tethered to a slow program. Don't get me wrong, I love using Steam and I enjoy it, but it's slow as fuck.

Games released on D2D have to have special executables tailored to D2D's system of DRM. A lot of games release patches that don't support patching the D2D executable (Leaving you with an out of date game), or replace it with a non D2D executable, leaving you with an unplayable game.
Why are they crying, groaning and moaning about the competition that Steam is putting up?
They should do something about it instead.

I mean, yeah, I hate Steam just as much as the next guy. It's slow, bloated, horrible-looking, and I hate being forced to run superfluous shit just to play the games I bought. But you have to deal with it if you like any of Valve's games, and its advantages completely outweigh its few minor negative aspects, so I think calling it a 'trojan horse' is a bit extreme.

I respect your opinion, however, I feel differently. It does bother me. I feel that I shouldn't have to use it at all. I feel that once I have purchased a game, I should be able to run it without running any extraneous processes.
Steam is in its basic form a Digital Rights Management software, not primarily a game organizer or online store. DRM something gamers are simply forced to live with. If you think about it, Steam is a really awesome DRM.
Also, offline mode works. If I want to log into Steam and play games offline, I connect my cellphone to my PC via USB and use its GPRS connection briefly just to log on. You can do this with a LOT of cells.
Also, if some of you went to school and paid a little more attention during English classes, you would realise that they're referring to Steam's inclusion of other games to be a "Trojan Horse" that affects the digital distribution platform market.
I get what they mean but did they really have to call Steam a trojan?
Fuck it, more money for Valve, well, whatever money they manage to get from a butchered game anyway.
If steam installs without you asking, then YES it is a trojan, but so are other stuff like c++ redist or physx and so on.

It's like saying DirectX is a trojan because it's installed automatically with most games, or that PhysX is a trojan because it's bundled with nvidia drivers.

Trojan - A program that appears desirable but actually contains something harmful; "the contents of a trojan can be a virus or a worm"; "when he downloaded the free game it turned out to be a trojan horse"
No.

Which is why I will only buy singleplayer games from D2D from now on.

ok
All I can say is :bravo:
Fuck YEAH! Go Steam!
The games I don't need steam for I usually don't get by steam, cause I don't feel like being bound to it, although it's okey with such games as RO, CS or other such games.
The only time I have heard people talking about D2D was complaining about it, never heard of the other two. So, uh, by that logic, Steam is much worse?
I've only heard of 3-4 people who use D2D, and it's a shitty program anyway. I've never even heard of Impulse and Gamersgate. Besides, Steam is better anyway.
Steam is a trojan horse :tinfoil:
"We don't believe games should force the user to install a Trojan Horse"
Lost all credibility right there.
Well you can't log in to steam in Offline mode, so unless you keep your computer on, you won't be able to access any Steam games at all. Unfortunately, keeping your laptop powered on 24/7 is usually bad for it. Lost my last laptop due to leaving it on for an excessive period of time.
You can though (offline mode via "FILE>Go Offline..." in the Steam Window), it's how you set computers up for LAN parties.
Also you know that most OS have the ability called Hibernate, where it saves the current session (from Ram) to the hard drive so you can resume it next time you start your computer up or place it in sleep mode.
D2D is terrible anyway. I haven't even ever been able to buy anything off of it because it's an absolute bitch about using debit cards where Steam isn't. I hope it bankrupts and closes down.
I hate D2D, bought Mercs 2 on there and couldn't get anything faster than 100kb/s without paying..
Wow, that is some pretty serious slander they are throwing around.
Oh well, all this will serve to do is introduce more people to Steam.
Wow, I understood what they were saying till they pulled the bullshit "Trojan horse".

Seemed fine when I used it, plus it offers some games that steam doesn't
I've only used D2D for that 5 week sale thing. And then even then any game I bought I put straight onto steam and used that to download it for me :smug:
Overall, D2D is a horrible system, or at least I've found for me.
You know, they could be referring to Trojan Horse as in an unexpectedly larger amount of things. Trojan Horse as a virus is only a reference to the actual Trojan Horse from history, you know.
Yeah, that bit floored me. Just because it's a competing service doesn't mean you can slander it like that.

.
Lol
More money for Valve then I guess
They (these online retailers) are really shooting themselves in the foot here

Well, don't try to say they used the word "Trojan Horse" to make people think of something harmless... :v:
Feh, I get what they're saying, and it's cool that they're lessening the market for the upcoming shitfest. A bit much calling steam a trojan horse, though.

Offline mode is bugged up the fuckin' ass. It's never worked properly.
