I only know slowbeef from retsupurae, what's his relationship with SA?
He is a well known LP'er even did some episodes with Lowtax; IIRC he was nearly mod status.
Also http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3658972&pagenumber=104&perpage=40#post433969081
He's not going to say anything that could damage his cash flow
Seriously who goes from "siding with someone he 'met' " to "uhh I am pulling out, and not saying anything"; I guess this isn't the first time he pulled out when having something to do with her.

Lowtax seems pretty apathetic about everything. I mean I'm not ignorant enough to think that literally, although it wouldn't surprise me if Lowtax basically takes slowbeef's angle.
Then I read more about all this and was like "gently caress it, I don't want to be part of this" so I'm just watching.
Same, beef. Same.

Please don't do this to me, I'm never going to be able to watch retsupurae again.
But yup. Seems like everyone from SA and the older guard are gonna draw to this conclusion.

Lowtax doesn't care, he stopped caring about most anything SA related after he had kids. He made GBS essentially /b/ because it generated more revenue for people buying avatars and unbans. He's just going to make some comment on it like "video game journalism, let's talk about how much it sucks while people die from ISIS" or some shit.

I've hung out with many SA members and still do, that doesn't mean I defend them the first time they are criticized. It would be different if the celebs of SA didn't have a history of overlooking large issues in their forum. It's just a little odd he jumped the gun on defending her then backed up to a "uhh nvm not saying anything lol"

Yeah. He's way more active than he used to be, but he doesn't poke his nose into internet drama like he used to. I think the guy's simply too old for shit like this and today's gaming world is a lot different from the Q3, UT99, and original CS-dominated world he was in his prime at.
You could say that about in SA in general, actually. It's become the internet's retirement home, though that's not a bad thing. The gaming forum is actually pretty fun now and their politics forum has become readable now that the extreme leftists have fucked off to shitposting in GBS or jacking off to anime on Twitter. It's one of the few forums I still go to, Facepunch included. It hasn't been relevant to the internet since LPs took off, but I don't give a shit about that.
Agreed. Again, I was following his twitter, and he noticed that certain things aren't adding up... but that there is a lot of bullshit flying around at the moment, and there isn't really much to talk about until the dust clears.
I was talking to voidburger the other day and it seems like she pretty much agrees that Zoe is shitty person but the harassment isn't warranted. I honestly think slowbeef will come to the same conclusion.
Speaking of which, I'll probably step away myself for a little bit, since there really isn't anything too big happening. I'll pop in if something big happens or w/e.
That's basically how I feel about this point. Shit clearly isn't right but I don't think harassment is ever warranted. Its probably for the best to take a step back for a few days.
I've read some of the thread, and I still have zero clue as to what is going on, can someone provide a video or explain in a post what is going on?
THIS JUST IN:
Most popular indie games were actually overhyped bullshit circlejerked around communities and journalism where the devs had connections.
Is it any different for Triple A games?

I have said that about SA in general. It's not a bad thing if it was controlled and properly moderated. However SA seems to be the cream of the crop on how the mighty have fallen.

She's completely right, unfortunatly this whole situation was going to be negative. The best upside to all of this we undid the bullshit that happened to TFYC, but now that's in limbo for unknown reasons.

True, but the internet and society are much different than the one SA was in its prime at. A lot of the gags SA was known for back when would either get you banned, run off, or ostracized today, no matter if you did them on SA or not. Plus, the userbase has simply gotten older without a significant influx of people in their teens and the like coming in to freshen things up. Most of the people with a penchant for crazy online stunts moved over to sites like 4chan and Reddit years ago.

Yes but just like adam sandler movies, people remember the old shit and not face the facts that what was is now the most generic thing in the internet community.
I joined SA nearly 10 years ago, I know it's prime, and I have seen it's downfall. The influx is minor, the problem is the userbase got old and never left their moms basement

People also don't want to actually pay to join sites like SA anymore, its just not a sustainable model.

Again that is what caused the isolation from the internet and spawned the circle jerk and tumblrism/SJW type culture. Paying 10 dollars for a circle jerk fest is small time for most people.

You don't even need that kind of money for something like that. You just need a way to seperate out discussions so that only people looking for specific terms find them.
Its how the circlejerk and SJW thing spread in tumblr, it doesn't go outside of its search terms unless you piss them off somehow, then they go after you.

They never left their basements, but they sure do act like they're above it all. SA has a ton of self-loathing nerds. Christ, look at how they treat anime; most of them claim to hate it, but they love a chance to post as much anime as they can whenever the opportunity arises.

I think the leadership has realized this and is slowly trying to fix it. The Games forum used to be a stuffy place where you had to write 500 words in each post and never be negative so that you wouldn't get probated, but now things are a lot more fun and you can actually make fun of people or make short posts again. It's actually pretty nice being able to troll a circlejerk because you know mods won't listen to whiners' requests to probate you.

No but 70% of the internet won't pay 10bucks for a forum, it's a refuge in an of itself. Even if they do go after you and pay 10bucks; jerk it a bit and get them banned.

Too little to late, I don't really know if it can recover. Some subforums have gotten better like the game forum(because lowtax's let's plays' and precense), but most else has gotten worse to the point of most anything goes. I mean shit the IT forum is basically "complain about your life and drunk post".

That's why they keep trying to make the shitstorm follow them being hacked etc, so no one questions the connections
Tomorrow is going to be interesting. Qrios/Eron is doing a chatlog live with 500+ people, and he's revealing a good deal of info. The mods are going to dump all the info into a pastebin. He's not going all out, but he's pointing a lot of good directions for people to move forwards toward.
Of note:
23:16 Eron_G Because pissing off people who support her means risk of being ostracized.
>3:16 Eron_G a friend in the AAA portion of the industry
23:17 Eron_G said that they couldn't get enough of it, and that it was like the Jersey shore of videogames
[05:17] <+Eron_G> Zoe has given me reason to believe there is a *lot* of nepotism in IGF
[05:18] <+Eron_G> but, I'm really uncomfortable commenting on that front.

Eron_G I don't have enough stories to anonymously post with a strong enough denouncement of the situation. And the stories I do have would very readily make it apparent who the parties are, just based on situation.
Eron_G like, posting two stories is not sufficient, because Zoe will just be like "No, what actually happened is . . . "
Eron_G and the approximately 6 others I have are indirect, and not coming forward
Eron_G I have one I know which I'm not supposed to know

Q: I'm a journalist with IndieJuice.tv. We'd like to be of any help we can, and as such, my question is, "If there was any one key message you'd like for people to share, what would it be? What would you like other journalists to learn about, and report upon?"
Eron_G There isn't one key message. Everything is wrong. All of it. The message I'm most interested in isn't the one most of the audience would be interested in. The message the audience would be interested in though: Journalists actively affect the industry they are covering. They are not passive observers. They shape what happens, and they need to be very careful of their potential to do that.

SA won't say anything directly until someone close to lowtax says anything, especially after shmork and lowtax are buddies. They learned that after they found out shmork was a diaperfur.

You see, cronyism is just nature's video game journalism.
The "gaming news sites closing ranks" aspect makes me intrigued in what the reaction would be if someone investigated higher-level cronyism in the journalism scene, like how companies like EA and Ubisoft basically buy off journalists.
[editline]25th August 2014[/editline]
Zoe Quinn slept with someone from Kotaku and got a Depression Quest mention in one article.

The indie game scene was sort of expected to be (more) free from all this shit. Now, especially with how hypocritical the journalists and devs have been it's been more of a shock.

Not to the same degree as this whole debacle. I don't remember InternetAristocrat or MundaneMatt making 1 hour long videos about it.

I suppose. Still a jarring juxtaposition of coverage though.
[editline]25th August 2014[/editline]
People complained about a general sense of not trusting games journalists like IGN and Gamespot, especially after Gerstmann, but not about the specifics. I started picking up on it after EA and DICE invited famous Youtubers out to see the game, gave them free shit, and wined and dined them so they can go back to their subscribers and talk about how great the game was. Then it launches and it's one of the worst launches of a game ever.

Its a matter of scale. AAA devs are much harder to fight, its a longer fight. But a group of corrupt indie devs and journalists. That's a target that can be handled more readily.
