What, SA is a not-cool place again? Damn it, where will I now go if I get perma'd here
The Social Justice movement, especially the ones actually doing social justice work, are going to have to pull back and re-evaluate their stance. I'm hoping they realize that they need to control the message more and also self-criticize and take criticism more. Game Journalism is going to die, it cannot survive something like this without money and since the main core gamers who look for gaming news are already leaving in droves that means they need more clickbait which gains more of the ire of the gaming community. Very soon, companies won't even see it as a worthwhile investment to grease palms. Websites like Reddit, NeoGAF and others are going to have to seriously re-examine their moderator policies and most likely flush out several moderators. In the case of reddit, its either they do that or a bunch of sub-reddits will pop up with moderators who don't listen to the others and tell them to fuck off, creating another schism. Gaming in general, especially the indie scene has taken a serious kick to the genitals. The trust for indie devs has completely washed away with this. Even having implied friendships with journalists puts you on the list of corrupting factors. The Big Developers have always had the ire of corruption and stank of money grubbing, but now the Independent scene's going to have this same ire, or even worse since a lot of gamers are taking as less of a business venture and more like your best friend running off with your significant other. This whole situation is fucked on so many levels and I doubt any real self examination is going to occur. What's most likely going to happen is that in true internet fashion, another series of schisms is going to happen or this will just placed on another laundry list of reasons why people aren't listening to or discussing things anymore.
None of these things are going to happen. SJWs pull out of games and criticize themselves over what happened, game companies cut off all contact with magazines because the gamers are mad, all videogame forums purge themselves of feminist and SJW moderators, and indie development's reputation has been irreparably destroyed. Why? Because a woman who made a free game allegedly slept with journalists and got hacked. Do you hear yourself? Doritogate was bigger than this, involving several AAA companies, and I can't name a single thing that came out of it. Most people don't even remember it.

Indie game devs on the other hand are far more affected

And exactly what you fucking said is what will happen instead. Read my whole post you spazzes. Fucking read for god damn once and awhile instead of just stuffing words in people's mouths and actually thinking you know how they think and act because you read a few posts on a fucking forum. I'm sick of this shit of people labeling, stuffing words and thinking they fucking know me and everyone else in a thread because they skimmed what we said and ignored important details.
What, SA is a not-cool place again? Damn it, where will I now go if I get perma'd here
Some parts are okay, but it's just become a dedicated circle jerk for SJW and tumblrites with people going "haha look at all these losers, we totally aren't them!". The mods stopped caring, lowtax completely stopped caring, and the community quickly followed. FP had a dip in 08-10 but it rebounded, SA just kept going down.
It's down again https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/women-making-video-games-for-charity#comments
What. The fuck.
I still don't get the problem about 4chan funding a project about Women making video games, even if they would have bad intentions they still gave them a shitton of help and an actually rather nicely designed character
What. The fuck.
https://twitter.com/TFYCapitalists/with_replies As far as I can understand, TFYC had nothing to do with reverting the campaign back. It was mostly blank and with only one reward, and are just as confused as the rest of us. You won't see a lot of tweets mostly because they are flapping their arms trying to figure this out, so be patient with them as Matt was patient and cool with the people in the stream.
https://twitter.com/TFYCapitalists/status/503639936499982338
@Oppress0r I honestly want to know just as much as you. We must be patient.
Goddamn, someone really doesn't want TFYC funded.
It's funny the more time it gets taken down and put back up, the bigger is the hole they are digging for themselves
https://twitter.com/TFYCapitalists/status/503639936499982338 Goddamn, someone really doesn't want TFYC funded.
At this point I just want one of the video games, they all look very cool. Once the campaign is underway the other issues can be tackled in full. Someone realised this and is using this to their advantage. I don't want to go full on tinfoil. I might just regret it.
I still don't get the problem about 4chan funding a project about Women making video games, even if they would have bad intentions they still gave them a shitton of help and an actually rather nicely designed character
Some retards are just trying to remove the whole project from public sight so it's more convenient for them to bash /v/.
Some retards are just trying to remove the whole project from public sight so it's more convenient for them to bash /v/.
But isn't the genie already out of the bottle that /v/ gave them an assload of support?
Alright, thanks for the help Reimu and Wolrdwaker. I've updated the OP. My thread is also the first result on google for this event, yay me :v:. If this campaign has done anything, it's spurred me to actually donate to something for the first time ever.
I still don't get the problem about 4chan funding a project about Women making video games, even if they would have bad intentions they still gave them a shitton of help and an actually rather nicely designed character
They don't even have bad intentions afaik, they just wanted to stick to to the SWJ-Indie-Journalist clique because Zoe and Co. tried to shut down the FYC's project.
I think people should stop using tiny pic. Also never played Gone Home but is it possible for someone who isn't a SJW Tumblr Feminist to like the game?
Yes it's very possible once you realize that the game isn't forcing a single thing down your throat. One of the characters is presented as a naive teenage punk feminist. That's it. That's the only mention of anything remotely SJW Tumblr Feminist related. The rest of it is pretty much just a love story.
The writing is on par for any sort of story about missing love interests. The only twist is its two women, but that's about it. And that's been done before. [editline]24th August 2014[/editline] It doesn't, this whole thing is going to have serious consequences for a multitude of things. The Social Justice movement, especially the ones actually doing social justice work, are going to have to pull back and re-evaluate their stance. I'm hoping they realize that they need to control the message more and also self-criticize and take criticism more. It's very difficult to sway someones opinion over the internet once they have their mind set on one way of thinking, the most outspoken people in the social justice movement are already pretty determined that they are in the right. As far as I can tell, they don't care about the corruption in game journalism angle, in their mind they have just been defending a woman who has been publicly harassed over false or exaggerated allegations (bear in mind this is not how I see it, just how I believe they see it). I don't see them changing their ways because I don't think they believe they are in the wrong and anyone who would feel a need to change was probably a reasonable person to begin with, not one of the obnoxious SJWs who give the movement a bad name. Game journalism is definitely not going to die, the only way that would happen is if there was a huge boycott which people actually stuck to for once, something which gamers are notoriously bad at. The main problem is that the people who are following this story are not likely to be their main audience to begin with. While they lose us, they will keep all the people who just want the latest DayZ/Minecraft/CoD/Game-of-the-month news and don't care or haven't heard about the drama. There is a good chance those people won't ever find out either, since the sites that are involved are probably the ones they get all their news from to begin with. You might be right about Reddit and NeoGAF getting new moderators but in the long run I doubt it will change much other than a little infighting until everyone forgets about this in the next month or so. Again, I doubt this will do anything to impact gaming in general. It might put a damper on the Indie surge that has been going on for the last couple of years but I don't think it will be much. Everyone knows that reviews for AAA games are bought half the time but it doesn't stop them from being wildly successful. A few cases of nepotism in such a tight knit scene like indie developers is not surprising at all, especially since everyone knows everyone thanks to social media like twitter. The whole situation is pretty fucked up but just like every other big internet drama, I doubt anything significant will come of it. I give it two months max before most people have lost interest and even that is a stretch.

My biggest issue, and this is an issue that's been echoed by my sociology and communications professors and classmates, is that these sides are butting heads directly, neither side is actually engaging the public or trying to sway the public. But if the public messes up somewhere, they suddenly have threats of doxxing, if they work in media they're threatened with boycotts.
this is goddamn ridiculous
I can't wait for a few weeks to pass so someone can sum up everything from Zoe Quinn to this campaign and everything beyond because I've gotten lost in the enormous mountain of fecal matter being thrown back and forth.
absolutely disgusting how she's comparing bombthreats and fearing for your life = faking getting hacked and creating internet drama.

GiP Goons still mock the rest of the site(and everyone really). :v:
Haven't seen much if any of that on SA, maybe it's because I mainly hang around in the games subforums.
Meanwhile, big AAA editors effectively have the financial power to get editors and writers fired from their job if they don't give 9,5/10 to every huge release... but no, let's direct our outrage at this one Kotaku writer because he mentioned "Depression Quest" three times in an article that's just an IndieStatik copy-paste job. If you want to get outraged at games journalism Zoe Quinn is quite possibly the most counter-productive and misguided angle on the subject. And there's plenty of bad things to say about game journalism.
He didn't write that on Kotaku though
