ambergris makes nice perfume. and one whale provides tons of meat. imagine the size difference between a whale and a chicken. imagine how many more chickens you need to kill to get as much meat as you would get from killing ONLY 1 whale or any other animal for that matter. can you explain how a hundred odd chicken lives are worth more than just one whale if both species are inferior to human anyway?
some people say theyre as clever as humans if they were they wouldnt have been hunted to near extinction. so who cares if they suffer like we do. chickens spend their whole life in disease ridden barns and are literally farmed, their whole life is spent in darkness and they're bred so fat their standard of living is crap. whales get the fucking ocean to roam around and at least they have a chance of escaping. they're hunted not farmed and if they die that's their own shit luck. you can't tell people not to kill a certain creature but be happy enough to eat almost anything else
The only reason why I don't kill whales is because they're not tiny enough to smoosh. The only reason why people care more about whales than say, insects and snakes is because whales are oh so cute (or whatever) and insects are icky and gross.

Whales aren't a necessity. Honestly, why kill a species that is slowly becoming extinct, especially when that species became useless many years ago? Farm animals are killed with quick, painless methods, getting an harpoon up your ass isn't exactly a quick painless death, not to mention farm animals are given time to reproduce, whales are being driven to extintion.

Evolution is a thing that takes millions of years, we could extinguish every animal and plant life on Earth in months if we wanted.
Also like you said, species go extint because they can't survive, if we kill all species then we wont have anything to eat, leading to our extintion, meaning that we failed to survive.

Let's compare the tools used to kill each animal:
First off we have the captive bolt pistol. It's used by the USDA to basically stun/kill the animal instantly before it is processed, the animals feel next to nothing.

It's basically an RPG with a spike at the end. It can take up to 30 minutes to kill a whale using this weapon.
Go take a grappling hook and ram it into your stomach as hard as you can, throw a large fire cracker into the wound, fill it full of saltwater and hang it off your ceiling whilst shooting yourself in the head with a pellet gun. If all the evidence is true, whales go through the same pain as you would.
