It's about a lovable idiot with a hot wife, he has a loser son a daugher who hates him and a miniature psycho, and has a non-human companion as his best friend.
Old Family guy episodes were hilarious, back when the humor was much more about random slapstick instead of relying only on stereotyping, racism, and celebrities.

"Oh don't feel bad Peter"
"Oh I never thought about it like that" still gets me
"Peter you're fired" "Oh jeez for how long?"
Old Family Guy was brilliant, it's sad to see how much it degraded over the years. I haven't genuinely laughed at a Family Guy episode since 2005.

The first season of Family Guy is still the only good one, in my opinion.

The whole show still pisses me off because it got cancelled and people bitched about it on the internet and FOX brought it back. Remember the last time a FOX show got cancelled and people complained?

Still waiting...
I don't recall that many flash backs in Cleveland Show or American Dad.
American Dad had none, and Cleveland Show only had things that were unrelated (but related) jokes.
I hope Bob's Burgers isn't canceled before this.
That would be the third worst injustice FOX would ever do.

I agree, Seasons 1-3 were when Family Guy was at it's best (in my opinion). Around Season 4 or 5 is when it started degrading in quality and by Season 6 maybe 7 is when it became unwatchable for me.
Can't understand how this guy does it, he's a terrible writer.
When will America start pumping out cartoons that aren't comedies?
Yeah I've got anime for my animation fix but I would really like to see things in the style and perspective of someone not from Japan for once.

Would King of the Hill count? It's more of a drama-comedy but I watch it for the story.
Well he made $150,000,000 so he must be doing something right.

Sadly, when American cartoons try to focus on any topic other than some form of humour, it's usually only in kids' cartoons, and the topic is usually "educational". Despite this, there are some surprisingly good kids' cartoons out there that focus on non-humorous and sometimes even unexpectedly deep topics, though they usually get neutered somewhat as a result of being syndicated on childrens' television. Mind you, there actually have been some attempts to make cartoons for adults that don't just serve as a vehicle for comedy, but most of them have either been "meh" quality or just bombed in general.
I suppose the cause of this lack of adult yet non-comedy-centric cartoons is the view that cartoons are only for kids. Thanks to Disney's prolific status as "the guys who make great cartoons/cartoon movies for kids", most people in this part of the world see cartoons as something made just for kids, something that only kids can be interested in and enjoy publicly. The facts that kids' cartoons are typically watered down for censorship reasons and are far more common than their adult counterparts don't help.
Interestingly, "adult" cartoons like Family Guy and Drawn Together actively manipulate and feed off this notion ("A cartoon, must be pleasant! OH NO, IT'S ACTUALLY NASTY AND MEAN!"), even if it's steadily diminishing in prominence as a direct effect of their existence and relative popularity. In a way, despite ranging from only mildly funny to godawful in terms of humor, these cartoons are slowly changing the American viewpoint that cartoons are for kids only. It's like how videogames have changed in public opinion from mere children's toys to entertainment covering a wide range of ages and tastes, except cartoons are somehow both older and slower to change peoples' opinions.
Maybe someday, we'll have a boom of wider-ranging, entire genre-spanning cartoons for all ages and walks of life. For now though, we apparently must suffer through Seth McFarlane's tide of crappy formulaic family comedies, and sloughs of shitty kids' cartoons with the occasional good one mixed in.
Until that day comes, however, the internet seems to be taking a peculiar liking to cartoons made specifically for it and on it, and welcoming the idea of cartoons that straddle, cross and break the dividing lines of age groups and genres.
I've never liked a show with characters that are passively gross or annoying to look at.

It's the test pilot.
Probably posted before, but I found this:

Exploiting idiocy is right?
Kinda makes you feel bad that the show will NEVER come back.
it was starting to decline in quality, I think they ended on a good enough note
though I'd like to see young adult Bobby
Wait. The older sister was originally meant to be a guy?
The same voiceactor and voice recording was used from both pilots for Daniel/Tina. I think the episode where Tina gets incorrectly referred to as Dina was a reference to that.
Can't understand how this guy does it, he's a terrible writer.
he was a long time writer on Johnny Bravo and wrote 26 Dexter's Lab episodes so no not really.

Seth's style was made for a limited animation budget as are most tv shows. He borrowed a lot from Hanna Barbara, the kings of limited tv animation and where he got his first job.

Honestly making a show with characters that look like the one on the left would just mean you'd have to sacrifice something else like in-betweens (hello anime)
I don't quite understand what it is about the art getting shittier as the show gets more popular but it happened with The Simpsons too. You'd think they'd be getting better budgets. They make everything look more shiny and polish but the animation is even more recycled and limited. I'm forced to assume it's because if we're honest audiences don't care about animation quality since tv cartoons are pretty much built around exposition and dialogue and less about shit actually happening. I mean this was the first tv "cartoon" for christ's sake.
