Tom Perkins' big idea: The rich should get more votes
The notion that only the rich and privileged should be able to vote is nothing new and certainly not going to change the world. What an idiot.
Oh, it would change the world alright.
I don't agree with this concept at all, but it does bother me a bit when the majority of people can vote to raise taxes on the minority.
If that bothers you, then how are you going to feel when the minority can vote to raise taxes on the majority?
Considering how rich some of these people are, it would only take a few dozen to pass any law they wanted, like maybe setting taxes for the poor at 75% and taxes for the rich at -2%.
There's a reason the majority is supposed to rule.
Wow none of you read the article
If you would have read the article you'd know he said he was joking after being laughed out of the room.
Its like that comic where the guy was pretending to be retarded the whole time
except while he was joking about the vote thing he was serious about wanting the goverment to be run by the rich for the rich and the poor should be worshiping the rich not "envying" them as he said, i don't envy the rich i want them to stop being fucking assholes and help fix the system and pay attention to the world that supports them instead of just pretending poor people and broken institutions don't exist.
i haven't met anybody with millions of dollars who wasn't an asshole, though i haven't met more than like 2-3 millionares

I knew a rich asshole once. But he was a really personable and earnest asshole.
He would drink beer (cheap beer only) and do yard work with you, but just laugh and tell you jokes in German if you asked him about money.
One of the better people that I have ever met, actually. He was killed by a drunk driver during a bar fight. RIP
If our system of representation truly works, then this Perkins guy can talk shit all day and it will amount to nothing but media hype.
And you, Mister Perkins, get all the boxes. :v:
They should do it the other way around
If your income is 0 you get 1,000,000 votes, scaled up to 0 votes for people with an income of 1,000,000. For every dollar over 1,000,000 of income the politician who disagrees with you the most gets a bonus vote
(no they shouldn't these are terrible ideas)
This is exactly what the founding fathers wouldn't want.
Let's say you're homeless. You don't pay taxes, but you should be able to vote for the candidate that will offer you the most economic/educational opportunities.
Giving rich people more votes would just consolidate power in them even more. Why should the rich get to have more say in the vision that is America than the millions of middle class Americans?
the founding fathers actually shot the people who wanted this in a duel.
wealthy Americans who pay more in taxes
That's a funny ass joke.
Do these people even realize they sound like cartoon villains at this point
This guy should get a barrel full of birdshot to the brain because clearly it's defective

Literally. If there ever was political trolling this is definitely it
the founding fathers actually shot the people who wanted this in a duel.
Uh, no. The founding fathers didn't specify exactly who was allowed to vote and so only land owners were able to vote until around 1850 when all of the rules regarding land ownership had been gotten rid of/made unconstitutional.
A nice reminder to everyone: the "job creators" really do think this way.
