Ooh, a Dota vs League fight! Always wanted to say this but: Enjoying your $7 skins, League? [t]http://i.imgur.com/WqodBtR.png[/t] But yeah, I'm honestly not surprised. This is pretty much the biggest Esport event, well, ever.
Damn Facepunch at it's lowest point arguing about Dota 2 vs League, they are two diff games with 2 diff play styles. You guys need to get over it and stop defending each game like it's your child, but honestly while this does seem like a cool idea, it's just gonna spawn a wave of "ESPORTS AREN'T A REAL SPORT ALL THEY ARE DOING IS PLAYING GAMES AND NOT FOOTBALL" arguments across old people. And considering the fact it's on ESPN it's going to cause a massive shitstorm across hardcore sports fans.
No ones really arguing Dota versus League. It's more of comparing Valve and Riots contribution and marketing to the e-sport community. It kinda started with Riot boosting its popularity significantly and now Valve has taken the reigns of trying to make e-sports legitimate for lack of a better word. I think Riot should swallow their pride and mimic Valves inclusion of letting players directly fund tournaments, unless they have and I'm just unaware.
at least riot doesnt use multiple channels to inflate overall viewer count
Did I read this right? Because it sounds like its the opposite...
LCS has consistently more viewers compared to a one off event like the international the stadium that the season 3 finals were held in is larger than the one the international is held in league is played by more people worldwide than dota league has been talked about by espn before but hey at least you guys have a preview show (not even the full game) on espn2, good on ya guys
So, how much nothing do you get out of stating stuff like that? [editline]17th July 2014[/editline]
riot have done more to make it seen as a legitimate sport than dota has
like restricting meta

How is that fair at all.
LoL has no excuse for still being a terrible game, its been out for enough time and had made enough money to fix their terrible metagame and grindfest that is so you can play with something you enjoy. Also runes/spells/skills is what makes the game terrible, it makes so if you pick a wrong rune page/skill build/whatever wrong your whole game is ruined. Also the champions have no personality at fucking all, its either muscular guy or woman with huge tits.
there's individual streamers streaming league now that have more viewers than all the people watching dota 2 right now
And at the same time, I've also seen Dota having more viewers than League at its high times. You just give a bad rep to players of the genre who fanboy over their game of election.
The $15 skins are equivalent to the $35 arcanas.......
Legendary skins do the same as arcanas and go for 10$, arcanas are just "more exclusive".
I'm not sure why but individual streamers are way more popular for LoL than for Dota 2 and always have been, which is why LoL is always above Dota outside major tournaments on Twitch.

And what are you even saying, spells/skills are the reason the game sucks? uh!!!! hello?!?!? [editline]17th July 2014[/editline] Seriously I will fucking trash Leauge any day for valid reasons but I hate people who talk shit while they dont know shit
as someone who played league in beta till 2013 and Dota since warcraft 3 days I feel I can say that Dota is just so much more complex than league in terms of mechanics and versatility. It's this complexity that draws me to Dota 2 over league with the sheer amount of choices and varying situations you can get yourself in. League just doesn't come close in terms of versatility, there's a stale META that everyone seems to just stick to, or counter picks to, and it's really boring. I played league for a long time, but it was always because I played it with my friends, and that's where my enjoyment came from. Dota on the other hand provided me with the enjoyment of fully controlling situations, or getting utterly wrecked by a farmed sven. Not to go there but, why do you think more people play league? It has a smaller learning curve (easier)
at least riot doesnt use multiple channels to inflate overall viewer count
Well of course they don't, they have viewer bots for that.

Also i seriously wanna know how every single high-bracket player can be so fucking toxic on LoL.
I can cite you examples of high bracket players who have never flamed in game or raged on stream :^) Blindly fighting over which game is better is a thing that turns a lot of people away, it makes the community look so childish. Hurr Leauge players are kids and dota players are elitist fucks!!!!!
Can anybody explain this hatred I see so many people have for the other game or is it just the standard "my game is better than yours" stuff? I once said Dota 2 because my friend mentioned mobas and he went all apeshit trying to explain why Dota 2 is absolute garbage then he sat me at his computer chair and tried to show me how to play LoL and started saying how much fun it would be if we played it together and how I should never ever play Dota 2 ever

It's like you're using the old school Call of Duty insult "Only kids play that game so it sucks bahaha" I play Dota 2 and League and I can understand that you like Dota a lot just by judging at your avatar but dude you're seriously giving the Dota community a shit name, please stop

When switching games the main things that made me dislike playing dota were the turn rates and cast points. I only continued playing it because my brother always wanted me to play with him. It's actually a lot of fun once you get used to it. as for the thread, I'll ask again, is anyone actually planning on watching TI4 on ESPN?
This thread is so silly, just play the game you like the most.

If you started out playing LoL and devoted countless hours into it, you're gonna defend LoL claiming it's better because you're better at it. Imagine if Dota 2 had came out before LoL. To me I would see LoL as a much inferior game for it's not offering nearly as much as Dota, but of course they would have time to improve upon their game, trying to beat out the current king. That's what Dota did to LoL, they dethroned them by force.
I don't see how anyone can enjoy League.. First of all the art style is just atrocious and full of stereotypical anime bimbos and space-marine-tier dudebro warriors, there was zero effort or originality put into any of the designs. Second, the vast majority of the heroes are meh, and to rub salt in the wound you have to grind for weeks or even months to unlock them all, that or cough up a ridiculous amount of cash. Third comes the meta is rigid which not only makes tournaments painfully boring to watch but also makes playing ranks games boring as well. And the final nail in the coffin is the horrible community, it beats out every other video game community in terms of toxicity, seriously I have never experienced so much hate and rudeness before while playing a game, new players in particular get shit on relentlessly, it is just sad.
Motherfucker I am going to stop you right on the second line because when you call those 2D dudebro twats 'space marines', you can hear a thousand souls wither in agony. If LoL's design team came even close to the level that WH40k art is on, I'd sure as shit be playing their game. Also League of Legends and thus Riot became a piece of shit the moment I realized they were doing everything in their power to keep the 1-1-2 + jungle meta alive. The moment a 2v1 pops up in top lane and gains a place there, Riot scrambles like a bunch of mad dogs to immediately stop it and force things back to 'normal'. Aka stale, idiotic, boring... etc.

I enjoy both.
but bringing up riot is bringing up league when literally all riot does is league though so that's not really an argument
Except not really because you can diss a company but still enjoy their game.
This thread is so silly, just play the game you like the most.
Your opinion is objectively shit and my game is obviously superior to yours. This is the internet after all.
I have some friends who are really good at lol and they consistently tell me how only a select few of the Champions are not bad and how much riot nerfs the fun out of the game; they've slowly started moving to doto as a direct result

I hate LoL and Riot in general for much older, and probably more reasonable, reasons dating back to Pendragon shutting down the Dota-Allstars forum and unwillingness to release the archives for a solid three years, them being part of trying to block Valve from using the DotA name originally, a silly slander campaign they waged for a time, and a myriad of other reasons. I think Riot and the people who work there and make overall decisions about their company and game are childish and stupid. That, and I think LoL of boring, uninspired, and poorly balanced.

Arteezy being a great example of this, he gets fucking trolled so he just flat out leaves games, the last time I saw his stream a guy was fucking with him and took his bottle off the courier and shouted russian profanities (to be expected in your average game) and he said "fuck this LOL" and left.

HoN is pretty fucking awful and I have yet to find a community of people who have actually been worse than that. KingRaven is pretty hard to beat in terms of people acting like the ultimate shitlord.
