For the record, the last time an MP was murdered was in 1990 by the IRA.
As for motive, I really doubt the idea some people are suggesting that this wasn't planned and that it was due to a argument she intervened in. Not many people walk around with a handmade gun and knife in their pockets, so I'm pretty certain it's first degree murder.
Yes, this is what I think makes it more likely the murder was planned. In Britain only gang members usually have guns and given he apparently has a more or less clean record, he doesn't seem connected to anything like that (nor would a gang member shoot someone in broad daylight, especially an MP). However the current reports are contradictory about what actually happened (either despite or because of the huge number of witnesses). I think it is likely, but not certain, that this is linked to a far-right group.
What a fucking mess, is that loony alive? Do they have them?

Also if this is connected to BF I wonder what it's gonna do to their party. I don't think it looks good on you when a member of your party stabs, shoots and kills a MP, in execution-style too
Her husband released a statement: "Today is the beginning of a new chapter in our lives. More difficult, more painful, less joyful, less full of love. I and Jo’s friends and family are going to work every moment of our lives to love and nurture our kids and to fight against the hate that killed Jo.
Jo believed in a better world and she fought for it every day of her life with an energy, and a zest for life that would exhaust most people.
She would have wanted two things above all else to happen now, one that our precious children are bathed in love and two, that we all unite to fight against the hatred that killed her. Hate doesn’t have a creed, race or religion, it is poisonous.
Jo would have no regrets about her life, she lived every day of it to the full."
What is "the hatred that killed her", though?
What is "the hatred that killed her", though?
I think it's more a general term of hate, causing pain against others- to hurt someone and injure them in a malicious way; rather than his statement targeting a specific ideology.

So what exactly is being suggested we fight against?
So what exactly is being suggested we fight against?
I'm having a slight hunch he means fighting against the motivations that would lead to an MP getting shot.

Didn't think about the handmade gun, you've got a point there
I'm having a slight hunch he means fighting against the motivations that would lead to an MP getting shot.
It's just we can't be sure about the motivation now that many news sources are retracting the eye-witness account that the killer declared something about Britain first. Barely any other info about him has been released apart from claims of mental illnes.

He could of had the gun for the intent of using it in the argument, rather than on the intervening MP. Just playing devil's advocate, doesn't explain the execution style murder.
Birstall is only a few miles from me. I think the reason many are suggesting it was politically motivated is because she campaigned for the benefits of immigration, which doesn't sit well with certain far right groups. Her first speech in parliament is evidence of this.
I personally doubt it was anything politically motivated, especially not anything from Britain First. they are a bunch of wankers but I really can't imagine a member of their group being responsible for something like this. it just looks as though she was caught up in an altercation or something but I suppose we won't know for a while yet
either way its such a shame to see this happen. what a waste of life.
This is definitely a political assassination if I've even seen one.
This is all about the EU referendum, don't be misguided in thinking that this means voting out means you support this sort of thing.
Someone else is playing the public like fools to think they can change the votes this way.
This isn't about guns, or mental illness or anything else like that.
This is just a desperate way to get more votes to stay in the EU and I'm not falling for it.
It's just sad that someone had to lose their lives because of this. And the 2 children now will never understand why this had happened to them. :(

Here's a tip but you are not as smart as you think. I hope you don't echo these feelings in real life because honestly painting this as part of some big conspiracy plot is embarrassingly stupid.

Are you seriously implying this was some false-flag conspiracy by the 'In' campaign to net more votes?
Get out.

Thats your own opinion then, if you don't like what I'm saying thats fine by me I'm just giving my view on this situation.

Maybe, maybe not. For all we could know it could be a third element in the works. We simply may never know.
Or the story is true and the guy is just a nutter.

How do you fall for the lies of 2 of the scummiest, most hated and least competent cabinet ministers in recent memory, a dishonest prick that thinks the public is stupid enough to think him a commoner for drinking beer in a pub, and someone only trying to oust David Cameron from Tory party leadership
But you see an extremely unambigious act of far right terroism as a crude attempt to secure more in votes?

My opinion and the opinion of everyone else with more than 2 brain cells to rub together. Keep your trashy conspiracy theory to the daily mail comments section where it belongs.
Her alleged killer is Thomas Mair, 52. According to eyewitness accounts, which are still under investigation, Mair was armed with a knife and a gun, either antique or homemade, and may have shouted “Britain First” when he attacked Cox, a possible reference to the far right Britain First party, whose leader, Paul Golding, is a former member of the white nationalist British National Party. The Daily Telegraph reported that Mair’s brother claimed Mair has a “history of mental illness,” and neighbors called him a “loner,” but he also has a long history with white nationalism.
According to records obtained by the Southern Poverty Law Center Mair was a dedicated supporter of the National Alliance (NA), the once premier neo-Nazi organization in the United States, for decades. Mair purchased a manual from the NA in 1999 that included instructions on how to build a pistol.
Mair, who resides in what is described as a semi-detached house on the Fieldhead Estate in Birstall, sent just over $620 to the NA, according to invoices for goods purchased from National Vanguard Books, the NA’s printing imprint. Mair purchased subscriptions for periodicals published by the imprint and he bought works that instruct readers on the “Chemistry of Powder & Explosives,” “Incendiaries,” and a work called “Improvised Munitions Handbook." Under “Section III, No. 9” (page 125) of that handbook, there are detailed instructions for constructing a “Pipe Pistol For .38 Caliber Ammunition” from components that can be purchased from nearly any hardware store.
The NA may be best-known for the work of its now-deceased founder, William Pierce, a former physics professor who also wrote racist novels. One, The Turner Diaries, tells the post-apocalyptic fictional story of a white man fighting in a race war that may have provided inspiration for Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.
The Daily Telegraph also reported that Mair was a subscriber to S. A. Patriot, a South African magazine published by White Rhino Club, a pro-apartheid group. The club describes that magazine’s editorial stance as opposed to “multi-cultural societies” and “expansionist Islam.” According to the Daily Telegraph, a January 2006 blog post attributed to the group described Mair as “one of the earliest subscribers and supporters of S. A. Patriot.”
info coming out. almost certain to be political now

as I said before we had a similar case were some dude rammed a knife into the neck of a mayor here and some dumb idiots really said that it was a ploy to rake in sympathy points for her pro refugee politics dude.
In the end it was a dumb as fuck jobless motherfucker Neonazi blaming her and "foreigners" for everything that went wrong with his life.

Trust me when I say i hate them just as much, I was completely undecided on what to go for. I had to find more out about the EU just to understand how it worked. I've checked our history to see how well we functioned before the EU and what its done to us. And after taking account with the present situation on the status of the EU today, I just came to the conclusion to vote out. I simply just don't think the EU works as well as people think it does.
I respect everyone's opinion on the matter and if anyone can give me a good idea to change my vote your more than welcome to.

oh boy, thats not a road you want to go down
he did and look what happened
How convenient for this to happen a week before Brexit. Still so very awful.
this murder is totally about the BREXIT and not the american gun control debate. Why in the arse did someone completely hijack the thread to talk about their mess.
I think this event changes everything, the motive is disgusting.
I'm actually wondering how much this is going to affect Brexit, if at all, given that it seems like the perpetrator was a supporter of it.
People now need to stop and actually think.. hang on, an MP just got murdered because they don't want to leave the EU.

It's political, but it's not a crazy conspiracy.
It's political, but it's not a crazy conspiracy.
I wouldn't be surprised to be honest, the European Union has a lot to lose if we vote out. If the UK vote does go through then whats to stop other countries from leaving as well? It will be a huge blow to them and could in fact slowly destroy what they've built today. This vote effects everyone in Europe and the rest of the world, so you better know damn well what your voting for is right thing to do.
