A company by the name of Recon made their own Google Glass. That is actually cooler.

I don't like that the "Glass" is on the bottom instead of on the top, being on the top makes it more secluded since it blends with the frames and also it doesn't block my sight to the ground, I like to see where I'm stepping on in case of the occasional bump on the ground without having to look directly at the ground all the time.
This thing is gonna be the Curly Shoelaces of the 2010s.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I kinda like it.
(I will, however, be the first to admit that I have no taste.)
i don't get why people hate google glass. it's actually rather sleek and fashionable.
It looks cool
but I would never wear it, at least Google Glass doesn't look wildly out of place on a normal person
screw you guys those things look kickin' rad
y'all are just hella jaded
if the software and price point are good I'll probably seriously consider these over google glass
How is it not projecting into your eye? It creates light and the light gets reflected into your eye. That's pretty much the definition of projection.
it's as much projecting into your eye as is your computer screen, pretty sure he meant directly projecting the image onto the retina so you can see it at most (non-hyperfocal) distances
I remember some company that made HUDs for military jets was throwing around a prototype at e3 I think these are the guys, seems like they should know a few things about wearable computers if they make them for jets

My friend's all like "dude these are cool, they have dedicated graphics, a better processor and better battery life" and I'm like "yeah they're fucking glasses, what use do glasses have for dedicated graphics"
They're computers intended to improve what someone sees, in the shape of glasses as that shape happens to be the general shape people use to build something that improves what someone sees.

In the end, it's always about software over hardware.

that's what I told him. I'm like the Glass has backing from fucking Google. It's gonna have the best software.
I Don't think they look too bad or make you "douchy" if you're using them while doing stuff they show in the video. I'm guessing they're making these for; jobs, athletic, sports, hobbies, and not for people to go on facebook at the mall. If these are priced right then they might be worth getting for that little something else to regular sunglasses.
But what does it do? The advert makes it look pretty pointless. It reminds me of those awful glasses that were for Police and Paramedics. I mean, why advertise so much if you don't have a solid product that advertises itself.
If it runs Android, I'd say this is a very strong competitor. And, running Android would in theory make it compatible with all of Google Glass' stuff.
However, if it's running a custom OS, I don't have much hope for it. Google Glass running Android means it already has a huge array of applications that can be fairly easily ported to it, giving it a huge edge. Recon would have to start from scratch and butt up against an already existing software giant, and it's not something every company can pull off like Google did against Apple. Just look at Microsoft's Windows phones.

Nintendo is living proof of this.
I'd only carry this sort of thing if I had concealed carry permit.
It's great the concept is being worked on, but as they are, these pseudo-HUD products just seem quirky to me. I won't be buying anything like this for a long time. But the ideas are great. If products like this become widespread, it has the potential to seriously affect the balance of media and the portrayal of truth, among countless other things. With millions of people around the world taking pictures and recording videos on the spot - as things are going down - the capacity to force transparency between the people of the world will become unparallelled. Or am I fooling myself?

Just like all the people who walk around like zombies tapping away on their 500$ smartphones, right?

But it will alway have to go through your eye's lense so you will always have to focus at a specific distance to see it properly unless you hijack the optic nerve directly, but that's even less projection.
What makes this different is that a screen can be viewed from every angle and your eye will have to focus on the screen, if it's too close it won't be able to focus. Glass projects the image through a lense and it can only be seen from one direction (your eye) and you don't see it by looking at the projector or lense, you see it by focusing on the distance.
The laws of physics make it impossible to project somewhere in your vision where you're not looking through the lense.
Update: Recon's glasses are Android based as well, and it seems they're actually working pretty closely with Google. You can also buy their glasses now for about $450. This, I like.

Change the title. It's in no way cooler.
any company producing any kind of headwear-based-computing is completely out of touch with how people are actually using their cell phones today. google glass is corporate masturbation.

It didn't bother anyone else that the display was tiny compared to the block it was attached to? It looks so tiny you wouldn't even be able to see what it displays. The google glass doesn't even have those "edges" on the screen, the google glass makes it appear more like the stuff you're seeing is not on a screen in front of you.
Let's just get this out of the way.

honestly the glasses look better with something that works with sports and gaming in general, then what google glasses that has a more professional business man look. This won't be as successful as google glasses because I don't see anything unique and special then having the same features, basically being a bad copy cat and not being innovative.
Might be getting this for cycling if it ever comes out super cheap. I've read from somewhere that the Jet was initially for cyclists who wanted to have their own version of the Recon Mod. Also the Recon Mod which was used for Ski and Snowboards is pretty awesome too. It records the data of almost everything inlcuding your airtime in ramps. IMO in general the stuff recon makes are marketed towards people who are serious about their sports.
