Yeah, actually, it would. Leaked development assets a few years ago are not confirmation that it's actively being worked.
it happened on october
Ah yes, how paranoid of me to believe that a series that hasnt been touched in any way shape or form in ten years whose lead writer has just left is dead. Surely the existence of developer assets at one point in time years ago alone proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that it's currently in the works even though the lead writer hasn't done anything on it! Actually, by insinuating that Laidlaw lied about there not being any scripting done for HL3, you're the one believing in corporate conspiracies. Golly, your tin foil hat must be on too tight!!!

To be fair that game was shoved to different team that had to restart it over and over again the final prodcut was most likely just worked for like 3 or so years
To be fair that games shoved around to show many places that one was not worked on for 12+ year's
what?
Even if Valve isn't interested in making HL3 why don't they just outsource it or just sell the damn IP ? Even the Black Mesa team with a good crowdfunding campaign could go a long way.
YEA LET THEM make the game for all I care
honestly at this point if this game ever comes out there better be a book 5 times the size of raising the bar documenting just what the hell went on during its development
Valve needs to get a PR team already. Absolutely ridiculous that employees have to announce their retirement through an email reply. This should have been announcement from Valve, have some respect for your fucking employees jesus fucking christ. /rant
what if this email is the start to a half life 3 arg???
lol what the hell it isn't standard practice for companies to announce people who quit or retire
After working there for 18 years and building a fanbase, I would say so yes
After working there for 18 years and building a fanbase, I would say so yes
so why haven't you made these kinds of posts when ted backman left a few months ago? or when steve bond left in 2010? because you couldn't spin it to post irrational entitled arguments about PR or half life? face it, in the end it's just another employee leaving the company. one person doesn't write a game. if half life 3 does exist, development won't suddenly come to a screeching halt because of someone retiring after working for 18 years

when Star Wars: TFA is the best selling film of all time (in the US) and it got there without George Lucas, I'm pretty damn sure Half life can live without marc you can still continue a series and make it amazing without the original writer.
They should of did that then, hell, I didn't even know about those.
i just don't think it's an important thing that companies should divulge when employees leave the company. i guess we just disagree there
I'm pretty sure we're gonna get a finale to the Half-Life franchise.

While Marc isn't
Man, 2015 was not Valve's year, and 2016 isn't seeming to be either with news like this and the fake out ARG. I mean. - A monetized modding system that nobody liked - Steam Machines have pretty much flopped hard due to nobody really wanting them - Steam Controllers getting mixed reviews at best - CS:GO R8 update fiasco - Xmas caching server issues - Key employees leaving Valve or working on other projects outside of Valve (Erik Wolpaw working on Psychonauts 2), further solidifying that no new games will be coming soon - A rather pointless ARG that only served to upset people in the end And there's probably some bits I'm missing. I'm not saying I gave a fuck about all of those, I'm just saying that from early 2015 up until now has had Valve's once unquestioned trust by its fans actually questioned. People are starting to realize that not even Valve can escape fucking up sometimes. It's really up to Valve to remedy this, and given their nature of rarely ever addressing questions or issues until the very last moment (if ever), I don't see this happening, and I only see a potential and unfortunate downward spiral for Valve from here. Not from a monetary standpoint, but from a consumer trust standpoint. As for Marc Laidlaw leaving, that is very sad news. He will definitely be missed, but at the same time, he definitely deserves that retirement.
I think Marc Laidlaw did an amazing job and his work will continue to inspire me and future generations of players and developers. Thank you, Marc.
Now stuff like G-man being explained (if he ever is) is just going to feel like fan-fiction, no matter what the quality is.

But yeah, last year wasn't a good year for them. Critically at least, because financially they're doing great.
Now stuff like G-man being explained (if he ever is) is just going to feel like fan-fiction, no matter what the quality is.
They likely already have a good general idea on who G-man is, presentation is the only thing they have to worry about.
So the original writer of HL retired after 20 years, almost at the age of 60. This means HL3 will never ever release, Valve is the worst company on earth (more evil than EA) and they only care about microtransactions/steam box and there's no hope because we are all about to die. I thought you guys were supposed to be better than SPUF? In the decade since EP2 he wouldn't have written the rest of the story before/since then? If he hadn't started writing it by now, that would mean the project was dead, not his retirement. This page is ok so far but I'm going to save some of those first replies, for when the next Valve game works out okay and people are back to defending them. Some of you guys are crazy about this.

Even if Valve were to come out and say HL was dead, I doubt people would believe them since they're so deep in denial [editline]8th January 2016[/editline]
So the original writer of HL retired after 20 years, almost at the age of 60. God damn it this tears it. Valve has gone TOO FAR. I'm uninstalling steam, never using it again. Avoiding all Valve IPs for being cancerous cash shop shit. I'M TEARING ALL OF GAYBEN'S PICTURES OFF THE WALL AND THERE'S NO POINT TO ANYTHING ANYMORE, NOT WITH NO HOPE FOR HL3. I've been spending my life waiting, WAITING forever and deep down I knew valve was cucking me, and they were cucking us all hard. I KNEW IT. I decided to hold on though and this is what I get for my loyalty. (User was banned for this post ("Shitposting" - Big Dumb American))
Half-Life 3 is never going to happen.
That post was obviously satire.
I can't tell sometimes. There's satirists, then there are people who literally believe the shit they spew.
