Well, I only know about the idea because a friend of mine, who I've known since we were 4, suffers with this problem and has explained everything the doctors tell him.

Doesn't mean that every kid who has had that idea has actually suffered from this. Just because kids belive in monsters under their beds doesn't make these monsters anymore real, one day there might be hiding a fucking bear under somebody's bed but that doesn't mean that there are bears under 'em all.
