Why is this in Sensationalist Headlines? Of course he was an atheist, it leaves out the whole "this is how it is because god made it so" issue
Because it's been assumed for two generations that he wasn't?
Congratulations to your first statement then; it's a boy!
you cited the source for me bro
Spinoza was the greatest Pantheist of all time.
you cited the source for me bro
So you're moving the goalposts then? In that case, let's continue squabbling over which source to accept
The way I see it is that my gods adhere to the bounds of our universe. They can't just make shit happen, they have to obey the laws of physics and other universal truths in order to do so.
Plus they're assholes.

That's impossible as per the definition of god.
That's impossible as per the definition of god.
Well, call them what you will. Higher beings, e.t.c.
I don't believe the gods created the universe, and it's a mystery to me how they came to be. But along with that logic is that they themselves can't break the laws of nature.
Weren't people forced into religion for hundreds of years, so when you guys say that a certain scientist from hundreds of years ago was religious what's that supposed to mean?
Well, call them what you will. Higher beings, e.t.c.
What's the point then? That's like saying "well I know there isn't any god but I'm too lazy to try and figure out what's really going on so i'll just say some 'higher being' exists that can make shit happen, but it has to abide by the laws of physics for some reason, I, again, don't know why but why I just accept that this is how it is".

Nothing.

Nothing.
Eh? I completely believe that science explains why shit happens. I simply also think that when they feel in the mood to intervene, they do. And yes, I will say I don't know why, because I can admit my faith is fucking retarded.
I don't tolerate stupidity in any form.
does it really matter to you what people believe in? do you go "darn it! people have different beliefs than me!"? Do you actively sit among atheists and talk about how stupid you think the concept of a god is? Do you tell religious people to go fuck themselves, thus bringing yourself down to the same level as religious extremists?

What is the point of this believe then? You can just as easily say you don't know and be done with it, but you go on inventing magical mystical higher beings that do magical things. And I can even sligthly understand this, but how you came up with them having to abide by the laws of physics is beyond me.

people aren't robots
they can have personal reasons for believing in things, and as long as they're not doing any harm there's no reason to call them out on it

I'm not calling you out on it, I'm simply asking what the point is if you already know that it's silly.

Karmic balance, and good luck both come forth from believing in it. Simple as that.
Same reason as any religion.
I hope that you understand that people are "atheist" because theists have not produced any factual validity to a belief since time immemorial.

I don't think people believe things (at least, not everything) because those beliefs serve a purpose. It's like asking why someone has the favorite color they do; the question isn't entirely meaningless, but approaching it as though the preference serves a purpose is a bit misguided I think.
How do you interpret it? I've no clue what it means. How is science without religion lame?
Look at it through Einstein's eyes. Science with religion meant system, science without meant chaos. His god was reflected through the simplicity of everything. Everything can be explained by simple mathematics, such as his most famous equation.
That's why he refused to believe (and later believed but refused to abide by) quantum mechanics: it was inexplainable, messy, chaotic and ungodly.

Which isn't anything to do with actual buddhism.
There's fanatics and cult offshoots in every religion.
