i recommend you play the Vietnam: The Experience mod with some friends, had hours fun making and playing missions in that
I wonder if these free game things have anything to do with Origin's free games thing
Don't forget the best mod ever. ECP mod.

Literally the best sound/effects mod ever. Soldiers getting out of APCs while burning and screaming like crazy. It's awesome.
Doesn't seem to install with the Steam version (Arma: Cold War Assault). Is there a workaround? Browsing to the Steamapp folder doesn't work.
this game owns
I remember going into mission editor and pitting dozens of Russians with RPGs against American tanks at night, the lights were tantalizing.
-nevermind-
This game blew our minds back when it came out... the graphics were amazing. I still remember walking into EB Games (yeah, back when we used real stores to buy games haha) and drooling over the screenshots on the back of the box.
Some of the most fun we had was for my friends and I to just hop in and play deathmatch on that bog standard little town map with the church and tractor etc. The funniest thing I remember is if you drove the tractor out of the play area (which kills you), you could get like half a mile down the road as the whole thing deformed and crumpled in around you while everyone tries to snipe you out. Or hiding in those glitchy as fuck houses haha. Great memories. We also used to take an island or even just the ocean, and dump hundreds of random building pieces to create a labyrinth of glitched hallways to try and crawl through and find each other.
Fuck, my nostalgia is on overdrive right now.
Arma Cold War Assault is the rebranding of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, for those that didn't know.
Holy shit I played the xbox version of this, and dear god has it aged.
Also guys huge site here filled with addons http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?newlang=eng
Probably my favorite of the arma series, love the setting

I downgraded the game using this patch
the AI is better than arma 2's, at least.
I don't know how you can come to this conclusion. The AI is much less considerate and mostly run around like headless chickens. They are much more like classic shooter enemies.
I'm so downloading this, I remember installing Terminator addons to this and doing a full set of missions, oh the glory days.
I can see why some people would like this game, but holy shit, it's just too clunky for me
Everything feels like it's moving in molasses and I get killed in one shot by enemies who I can't see, I'm not even charging in head-on, I'm prone on the ground checking every corner and zooming in and looking around and stuff

It can be hard as hell to locate enemy infantry especially at distance, or in treelines. Stop, get cover (This is practically the most important), scan, use your audio and look for muzzle flashes, if you're a scrub on easy mode check your map. That said, I have very little difficulty with this, but I guess 13 years of playing the franchise gives me an edge
Also, if I remember correctly, the skill of both enemy and friendly AI are configurable through game options, as are several other difficulty related things. If there's a Super AI, make sure that's disabled.
There should also be some AI mods out there that make them more reliant on suppression fire rather than just pin-point sniping you
That's nice actually now I own all arma games except the third one.
