Dohohoho sucks to be bohemia interactive

They still have ARMA.
On a slightly more serious note, I wonder if this will become a serious competitor to Bohemia Interactive's VBS2.
If it's more flexible while simultaneously being more intuitive, then without a doubt it will be. The biggest problem BI faces is VBS2 is an outdated engine, hell their commercial market (ArmA2) is more advanced and flexible at the moment. They need to work on VBS3 and fast.

VBS2 doesn't cost $57m or require insanely powerful hardware to run.
Although this seems to be more than just the software, this sounds like a full blown simulated experience as opposed to just a "game".

I never understood why they had separate engines.
They still have ARMA.
True, but with VBS2 that had multiple military contracts, US Army, US Marines, Australian Defence Force, New Zealand DF, UK etc etc
That's alot of money to lose out on.

Well the engines are virtually identical, but VBS2 is ArmA 1 basically. ArmA 2 is the more up to date version of the engine.
Yeah don't ask me why they didn't just update VBS2 while they were at it

From what I have read on the BI forum VBS2 is getting some serious engine updates in the next year or so, so its not like they are sleeping. But you are right it does appear to be quite behind other things (The engine is after all an extensive modification of the ArmA1 engine)

Um, frostbite wins big time.
The only problem I have with frostbite games (well from what we've seen in BC2 and such) is the destruction is waaaaaaaaaayyyy too excessive, I mean just of that .gif of the M4 destroying that wall. In reality if you magdumped into a concrete wall you might kick up some serious dust, but you aren't going to be breaking chunks of it off from something that thick.

Its only the larger guns like rockets and cannons that do that.
That's what Tripwire is doing with Heroes of Stalingrad, it'll apparently have a destructible environment but only the larger guns will actually cause the kind of destruction that the M4 apparently causes in BF3

What, you mean M4's don't destroy walls?!? I have been lied to all this time?? What ever next, will you tell me that strapping C4 to a vehicle and ramming into tanks isn't a valid realistic tactic?

About that.....
Oh man, that lighting from the helicopter....
If this is gonna be made for pc only it could be epic.
Looks like crysis with new models.
While this is cool, I do not believe that any sort of computer-based simulation or training can replace or be better than being out there on the field for real conducting training exercises.
Looks like crysis with new models.
That can be said about any two things that share the same engine, you could say CSS just looks like HL2 with different models.

Unless I'm missing something, it's going to be army only.
Yeah but in that case it'll still be PCs only.
War as a video game... what better way to raise the ultimate soldier?
This is what I went to college for.
I wonder if they'd let me in on this.

America's Army.
America's Army.
i'll pass on that one.
I hope they release the mod Publicly.
I hope they release the mod Publicly.
Its not a mod, or even a game, its a simulator. Much like how VBS2 is a simulator. And if its ever released to public, it will cost few thousand dollars to get it. Like VBS2.
BTW, so what will happen to VBS2 now?
Article says it will be exclusive to the army, but it can change in the future

The US army are not their only customer, I would even risk going as far as saying they are not even their biggest customer.
