• Sarah Palin misuses the term "Blood Libel"

I can see in some ways how the media incites things. For example, they pluck crazy ass people from obscurity and report the things they say. They know the person hardly represents the demographic, but it doesn't stop them from letting him say the provocative things he wants just to get the audience stirring falsely over something that's hardly a problem. The media has been trying to incite rising problems with racism for a while now, but it never seems to be a real issue.
;27399688']I would agree with you if you could find one piece of evidence that it is motivated by right wing political rhetoric. This was just a lunatic.
He said possibly. Even if her rhetoric didn't inspire this guy, and it probably didn't, it's contributing to America's currently-volatile political atmosphere and if it continues it WILL set someone off. (Or set off the entire tea party, which would be devastating)
She probably thought it was a harsher way of saying libel. [editline]13th January 2011[/editline] lol
moronic cunt is moronic jokes aside, she is a fucking dumbass
Somewhat, he could have used a better term. In the context that Palin used, "blood libel" makes perfect sense.
to quote the OP
Now, let's visit the actual meaning of blood libel. Blood libel is the false accusation that Jews would kidnap Christian children and murder them so that their blood would be used in Jewish religious rituals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libel). So what Sarah Palin is trying to say, is that she feels that the journalists are accusing her of stealing Christian children for their blood.
how does that make perfect sense
to quote the OP how does that make perfect sense
As I said, using it in the contemporary meaning "Defamation of kinship", not the antisemitic, archaic form. [editline]00[/editline] I even explained this in my first post in this thread.
I agree that she's definitely not the smartest person but don't you think it's kind of stupid that everytime she misuses a word or says the wrong word it's all the sudden breaking news?
still doesn't make any sense considering the context i don't know how journalists connecting sarah palin's website with violent rhetoric has anything to do with defamation of kinship
Oh my god someone makes an error in their speech stop the goddamn presses I didn't see anyone freaking out over Obama's 67 states mixup
btw the reason we jump on sarah palin saying something stupid is because every single dumb thing she says is a good reminder of why she shouldn't be in charge of anything and i fully support all attempts to bring that to light
still doesn't make any sense considering the context i don't know how journalists connecting sarah palin's website with violent rhetoric has anything to do with defamation of kinship
It's a bad metaphor get over it
It's a bad metaphor get over it
no it's dumb
still doesn't make any sense considering the context i don't know how journalists connecting sarah palin's website with violent rhetoric has anything to do with defamation of kinship
According to her, the journalists are using her chart with the targets to associate Palin with the Tuscon shootings. Which apparently Palin thinks this will corrupt the image of the entire GOP. Therefore, the persecution based on the chart would become a blood libel against the GOP. Cue: "Persecution Complex" This is what I'm guessing, come to think of it, even with the contemporary meaning, it still doesn't make much sense how Palin used the term.

It's something Sarah Palin said.
I think it just goes without saying that you can't argue with stupid people, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
It's a bad metaphor get over it
This is politics, if you're not politically correct, you're wrong.
Oh my god someone makes an error in their speech stop the goddamn presses I didn't see anyone freaking out over Obama's 67 states mixup
then you haven't been looking very hard
She probably looked on Wikipedia, saw the first ten words of the definition, and then decided to use it in her speech.
I don't know dude. She could be making a historical comparison. It doesn't have to be as literal as everyone is making it seem.
If she was making a historical comparison that would be even more offensive [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] Like, if she just didn't know what it meant that's dumb. If she knew what it meant and was actually compared being criticized to genocide that is terrible.
sarah palin is dumb, we get it stop posting threads about her (User was banned for this post ("If you don't want to read a thread then don't click on it" - TH89))
So, if I'm reading this correctly, Sarah Palin doesn't steal blood from small Christian children? :ohdear:
Well, congratulations Palin, and good luck redeeming yourself over that one. Also quick fact, the average child of Sarah Palin has 46.2 chromosomes.
Classy. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline]
i as a jew and more importantly, as a leftist, find this offensive
:irony: [editline]14th January 2011[/editline]
Like, if she just didn't know what it meant that's dumb. If she knew what it meant and was actually compared being criticized to genocide that is terrible.
There's a bit of difference between the Blood Libel and the Holocaust. Just a little. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline]
So, if I'm reading this correctly, Sarah Palin doesn't steal blood from small Christian children? :ohdear:
No that's stem cells.
No that's stem cells.
Oh, OK.
:irony:
dats the joke good job catchin on
While both unnecessary and hurtful to those who know the true meaning of "blood libel", the media finds it entertaining to exploit everything politicians say in the first place. The only real difference is that instead of making fun of everything Obama says while he's trying to be helpful, we are making fun of everything that Palin says while she's trying to defend her stupid actions in the first place. Yet, even though some of these same news sources are making fun of her, they end up applauding her for simply being an idiot. The center of the problem is how big of a bandwagon the media is about this sort of stuff. Palin is a dumbass, this has been established, yet silly people on Fox News and Time Magazine state that her idiotic accusations revolving around things such as death-panels, is simply a strategy to rally support. However, its mostly just true that she loves to take big, bloody bites out of the conservative, Murican cash cow. If we were to truly take her seriously, then she could be considered a fascist by all standards. As the test of time has shown, fascist leaders such as Hitler had rallied support by pinning the country's problems on a certain group (In Hitler's case, these scapegoats were Jews, where today's scapegoats are Muslims, illegal immigrants, and obviously the President.) The way people like this go about rallying such support comes from fear-harboring and just plain prejudiced remarks. I'd give a historical example of this behavior in a way not quite as related to people of the Jewish faith, however the example of Hitler's fascist Reich is most commonly-known, and allows more clarity in my points. To be quite frank, the best way to resolve this problem is to ignore her. Once people stop listening to her, she gets mad, stomps her feet, and then runs back to Alaska to get her mommy. then, when she starts to head back to DC, we'll have a bunch of wolves in helicopters to airhunt her for sport with Kate Gosslein
I don't care for her. But I think that Blood Libel could be used here properly as either metaphor or hyperbole, probably not hyperbole but maybe.
That was Tina Fey, while portraying Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. Refudiate common misconceptions! :pseudo:
Can't remember the exact wording, but she said something very similar and equally stupid.
i dont even understand anything she said
i have a hardon for sarah palin in the gay way
Doesn't this woman have people, you know aides to stop her from saying stupid stuff like this.
