Except it seems odd, since Allah isn't the name for God in Judaism. Allah doesn't mean God, it's a name for God. A name that conflicts with the Jewish YHWH.
True and False, It is infact a name for god but by proxy it's also the catch all term for god. Thats why the term translates to God is Great, not Allah is Great(tho some translate to that too, this is extremely confusing but you get the point, I hope)
Much less so during a Jewish prayer.
So? A man was killed because he prayed in another language. This is bullshit.
So? A man was killed because he prayed in another language. This is bullshit.
Yes. It's bullshit. I'm not trying to say it's not bullshit. I'm just saying that I understand why the guard might have thought something was fishy when the guy stands up during prayer, fetches something from his jacket, and loudly proclaims that God is great in a language presumably not native to him, and certainly not to the site.

He was in an adjacent restroom, he didn't "stand up in the middle of prayer and suddenly loudly shout Allah Ackbar" and he was pulling something from his pocket, not jacket (no clue where you go that from) By deliberately twisting it into 'jacket,' you're making it sound like the appearance was that he possibly had some chest-strapped explosive.
If shouting Allahu Akbar means being shot by the police in Israel, I think thousands of Muslims would have been shot by now.
If shouting Allahu Akbar means being shot by the police in Israel, I think thousands of Muslims would have been shot by now.
This is pretty much the case. The IDF are extremely trigger happy to kill Arabs.
It's pretty much the equivalent of "banzaiiii" but really I doubt he was charging at them like a mad man.
Pretty shitty last words, for anyone not muslim. I mean, how's Jewish-Saint-Peter gonna react when you reach the pearly gates and tell 'im that that's the last thing over your lips?
allah is arabic for god for christians and jews too.

I genuinely didn't mean to twist the situation like that. My point never was to defend the guard, either, just that I understand the mindset that made him act how he did. [sp]Must be one hell of a shit you took if you feel like yelling God is great on your way out the loo, though[/sp]
to be fair, usually in that part of the world if your guarding something and a guy comes up and shouts that, generally an explosion follows
because that's not generalizing all muslims ever
Since when does shouting "GOD IS GREAT!" Considered a crime! We muslim says Praise Allah for our appreciation of god,. Allah Ackbar is not a word that is mean used for fun. Allah Ackbar is a equivalent to english people saying "Thank god almighty" These people have wrongly associated people shouting in the name of god , a terrorist. Where's the freedom of speech in Israel anyways?
Why shout god is great in Arabic? It's a jewish holy site so why not just speak Hebrew? Seems like this guy was screwing around and doing something dangerous.
Pretty shitty last words, for anyone not muslim. I mean, how's Jewish-Saint-Peter gonna react when you reach the pearly gates and tell 'im that that's the last thing over your lips?
Same god, different language.
Just some perspective about the guy who got shot, from David Dahan, chairman of the Knesset's social organizations, who was a witness to the incident: "I pray here every morning and I know the man. He was a volunteer in one of chabad's soup kitchens. He was a strange person- he would always sit around in the square near the wall and read a newspaper, then go to the bathroom and start ranting and raving about the government. He was pretty well known for being that kind of guy, you know, walking around, talking to himself, anti-establishment. He was probably homeless as well." TL;DR- Guy was mentally unstable, and the guards probably knew him as such.

Where's the freedom of speech in Israel anyways?
Even more information on this- The security guard who shot him isn't a regular employee in the area; He's a young Druze man from the upper Galil area (far north from Jerusalem) who usually patrols the old city. He didn't know (like the other security guards) that the guy he was facing had some mental issues. According to other security guards, the guy he shot started a fight with him an hour before that, saying "all the Druze are sons of bitches", "you came here to take over the western wall", and he also threatened to kill him. The security guard reported this to his superiors, but they didn't really do anything. After that, he met him again, the other guy started cursing him again, and at one point yelled "Allahu Akbar" and reached for his pocket. Security guard shot him 10 times.
Maybe the guard thought the guy had explosive diarrhea?
I have a feeling the dude was cracking a joke linked to that before he shouted "god is great" while heading to the bathroom.
Clearly it was a trap.
Pretty shitty last words, for anyone not muslim. I mean, how's Jewish-Saint-Peter gonna react when you reach the pearly gates and tell 'im that that's the last thing over your lips?
Why? You can always claim you were praising your god, just in another language.
Wow, it isn't ArmA 2, just because someone shouts Allahu Ackbar doesn't mean they're gonna blow themselves up

It's nice to know that Facepunch continues to believe Israel is some sort of a fascist state that executes dozens of Arabs for being Arabs every day.
God damn some of you fools are ignorant as fuck, Allahu akbar is a common phase used by muslims, not a exclusive terrorist battlecry. It means "God is great" [editline]21st June 2013[/editline]
Well, looks like he wasn't shot just for speaking Arabic and it was merely an unfortunate turn of events that anyone in the world could have been caught in. Even though this is probably not because of racism, the two were in a vocal fight just an hour before one of them was shot. The security guard might have been a little too happy to pull the trigger.
*Akbar Ackbar is this guy
Why is everyone rating this guy dumb? He's talking about the title and he's right... Edit: And now it's changed. GG mods

Also muslims who don't speak arabic don't say allah, they say god in their own language. That's literally the same as saying that the god that Catholics worship is named Deus.
