I also think it kinda looks like it was on purpose. They both look around A LOT before he takes the flame to the gas cap. He even looks right at the camera for a good bit. I think he had about a half second to process what happened, concluded the nozzle was on fire and tried to throw it away from himself and his wife without considering the burning petrol. Kind of like how when someone scares the absolute shit out of you you might punch them without thinking.

i used to work at a QT and the biggest thing i worried about was stupid people like this. but i mean just thinking here couldnt he have put his hand off the trigger and hit the gas shut off that usually is on the post nearby. poor wife had to get burned.

I can relate to this story. I was at a gas station several years ago, minding my own business and just about to finish pumping gas into my car.
