Shit like $6000 braces and $40,000 surgeries are pretty typical in the US.
Really sad. People who don't have insurance or NHS or whatever are pretty much required to overpay a lot. There's no way braces and the procedure can cost $6k. Even if your teeth are REALLY bad and require some custom shit, 6k is still absurdly high.
So they can literally sit on their ass all day and still make buttloads of money? Okay, that's neat.
You should see the amount of cool things Google works on besides just being a search engine. They're constantly working on revolutionary ideas and fun stuff (The automatic driving car, Google Glass, and they also have this whole place set up in the science museum that you control and make music from weird instruments along with robots that will detect the contour lines of a picture and draw them.) Those projects gain some revenue too. My braces cost around $6,000 and I have to pay $20,000 dollars for 4 implants from missing teeth when I'm 18. So I have to pay a new car for four teeth. A very comforting thought. Welcome to the US. We have some cheap shit but when it comes to making that smile look better it'll cost you an arm and a leg.
Fuckin' hell, to think I had braces fitted for free not two months ago :v:
It's ridiculous because of the reasons they charge so much. 1) They have student loans to pay off. Schools for any medical/dental field are expensive as fuck, and you can't get by on scholarships alone. 2) Apparantley the reason for medical procedures costing so much, is to supplement those who cannot pay. So to make up for John Doe who can't pay all his bills, they charge Jane Dean out the ass, too. Between the two of them, the expenses are pretty much covered. Retarded, yes, but word is that's why they do it.

Barak Obama suggested such a system, and lots of Americans opposed it, saying that they should be able to choose the health care they want, and basically slated the HNS. To this, many of British were outraged and very angry here in the UK. I can't understand why a country as rich as the USA has a healthcare system where is you dont have enough money, you die. If you need a hernier opperation and couldnt afford health insurance, and dont have the stupid 10K to cover the opperation, you have to go without treatment. Where is the human rights in that? For a country which campaigns for human rights in other countries, i think they should concentrate on their own first. Also, no housing benefits? What happens when you loose your job and you have kids? Some people resort to camping at camp sites, like something from a disaster zone. I cant see the richest country in the world can treat its own residents so badly. And I also can't understand how they hate canada so much! Canada is rated for its high quality of life, because they're government actually cares about its people. Its a government for its people, rather than a government for the rest of the world like America Im not sure why you say that it needs to cover those who dont have money, because from what i know, those who dont have money simply dont get the treatment.

There's also programs that allow people to get government aid for housing, I know this because my step-sister (who has chosen the "retardedly obese" lifestyle) lives on it ("HUD" as it's called), and she's basically on every freebie program you think think of: HUD, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Disability. It's good that these programs are there for people who need them, but that she's only getting them because she's too lazy to walk (and now too FAT to walk, isn't THAT fucking sad) makes me somewhat sad.
