And from what I've read it's actually worse than most forms of execution when it doesn't work. A lethal injection is a mixture of 3 different drugs. the drug that's supposed to knock you unconscious occasionally fails, leaving you fully awake to experience the pain caused by the drug that kills you. The last drug causes paralysis, so if this were to happen to you you'd have no way of telling people you were in pain. So you'd just lay there in agony and eventually die.

Actually, it's the court/lawyer costs for the automatic appeal that comes when someone is sentenced to death.
