i put this as my FB profile pic:
uhh at least facepunch explained this to me. and I was wondering wtf, why does everyone have cartoon in their profile.
My friends started posting loads of "Oh no, chance your pictures, this was orchestrated by pedos!" messages last night, honestly I assumed it was bullshit someone had written for the lulz.
You are a fail pedophile if you need someone to have a Pokemon picture just to tell that they are a kid, i mean, is it that hard to guess age by a picture?
I heard rumors that terrorists are behind the "never forget 9/11" campaign, can I have a news story now?
Fuck it, still gonna keep my pokemon picture up for the month. Scizor is too awesome to take down
Well, that answers my questions... Was sick for 3 days, get on facebook.. Everybody has cartoon display pictures, all the cartoons I used to watch when I was younger in a nutshell. Anyways I did not participate, mainly because no one could give me a straight answer as to why everyone is doing this. Now I know.. Still wont participate though.
If it was real wouldn't it be easier to find kids by their own picture not some cartoon character, this entire thing doesn't make any sense.
Sums everything up nicely: http://liberalconspiracy.org/2010/12/06/why-the-facebook-campaign-on-child-abuse-is-misguided/
I changed mine to a cartoon character just because it was a bit of fun, and didn't see any harm in showing support. It isn't as if I thought it would stop child abuse. The feeling of nostalgia was nice, too. I understand if people didn't want to change their picture because they knew it wouldn't do anything to stop child abuse, but I don't understand this self-righteous need to be such a fun-killer. Also, stop posting articles from The Daily Mail
I changed my display picture to pedobear.
I have a friend that did that. Another had something similar to this
I have a friend that did that. Another had something similar to this [img_thumb]http://www.comic-mint.com/media/client/homer-strangling-bart-c7785_sml.JPG[/img_thumb]
Mine's close to that, white background though. Surprisingly, nobody noticed the irony of it.
Why would pedofiles want adults to change their profile pictures to cartoons...
I changed mine to Patrick Star, oh god I'm obviously now being facebook stalked by peadophiles, I'm going to get raped! No.
I changed mine to the little toaster. I guess it raises awareness about child abuse, no pedos involved.
Just another day in our cotton-wool kid culture.
Lol I didn't even hear of this cartoon thing until now and I have a facebook [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] Its a good cause though. Now, Jackie Chan Adventures or Adventure Time
I just did it cause I like cartoons.
I know I'm late to the "this is fucking ridiculous" party, but I wanted to share what I said when one of my friends posted that:
I don't believe it for a second. There are all sorts of groups on the internet who blindly hate Facebook. Quite frequently, these groups target Facebook activism campaigns because they take over the news feed with the same thing over and over again and the campaigns don't really accomplish anything (really, it's just because they are lonely and spiteful people). This will have NO affect on pedophiles on Facebook. If they want, they can use cartoon characters themselves. YOU aren't a pedophile, so why would it matter if YOU have a cartoon character as an avatar. Besides, it is exceedingly rare that a pedophile even uses Facebook. Facebook's security, popularity, and the fact that everybody mentions it in every news story about pedophilia make it dangerous for them. The real places to keep children away from are lesser-known websites. Go ahead, continue using cartoon characters as avatars.
after that, she changed it back and nobody else I know questioned it.
One Facebooker asked: ‘How is this gonna help stop child abuse? Sounds like something a paedophile would do!’
Are people really this paranoid or just fucking retarded?
Pfft, I changed my picture to a Pokémon for the month before this whole cartoon thing started.
That doesn't make any sense. How does changing your pic to a cartoon "from your childhood" identify you as a child?
People speculating on Facebook? the Daily Mail is on the scene!
One Facebooker asked: ‘How is this gonna help stop child abuse?
This is what I thought first time I saw it.
It is not being perverted or a pedophile. (Ok, perhaps a bit perverted) It is being witty via irony.
My mom and aunt both changed their pictures to old cartoons. In fact, most of the adults I'm friends with on Facebook did. Wouldn't that make it harder to find children?
