OH GOD, IT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW! [img_thumb]http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/posted/sydneydust.jpg[/img_thumb]
Oh noes the end is near.
:ohdear: This makes me glad I'm not going to be in the country for more than three more years. That giant caldera always scared the shit out of me, and this isn't helping...
You know that the eruption will fuck up the entire planet and not just america right?
Why go on about stuff we have no clue about when we have three cases that we're familiar with? If I just said "Yeah, so, supervolcanos, millions of them have gone off," nobody would bat an eyelid.
I'm just saying, there's been tons of them so far. Don't mean to piss you off, man.
Glad I live in Florida. Keep your volcanoes in the west.
Shit that's actually quite scary
Sucks to be you guys. Pretty sure the moon will stay safe.
If the ash comes to California I am going to kick this volcano's ass.
Blast radius: [img_thumb]http://www.survivalistssite.com/~canuck/images/yellowstone/diag_ashfall_sm.jpg[/img_thumb] Arizona's safe..ish.
Ok so the blast stops around 100 km short of where I live. Am I good? >:O
Shit that circle just borders Edmonton in Canada, I live just outside. FFFFFFFF
Shit that circle just borders Edmonton in Canada, I live just outside. FFFFFFFF
At least you will be granted a quick death, unlike the rest of humanity.
Dig into it to release the pressure :downs:
You guys realize that the ash will go very far right?
You guys realize that the ash will go very far right?
The ash will stay in the atmosphere for at least 2 years, making temperatures plummet for at least 5. Better start growing hydroponically indoors so you know how to when you really do need it.
Actually drilling could work but would require Billions of dollars in engineering and multiple drills to relieve the pressure equally. I guess the decision is to just let it explode.....
Although I do study Geography and I'm pretty sure this kinda stuff with the land rising in places happens quite fequently but people just try to turn it into something big. It is scaremongering by the media? Or something like that but thats what they did with swine flu and possibly the same here.
I think it's most likely that studies have been exaggerated than it actually is, since we're after all live in a apocalyptic obsessed culture reinforced by FUD which is even influenced our own science.
By "Rendering 2/3 of the country uninhabitable" Do they mean uninhabited for plant and animal because they can't get any sunlight for food? Or because the ash and everything physically killed it all? Hoping it's the former. [editline]25th January 2011[/editline] I'm in that 2/3 of the country.
Uninhabitable because literally feet of ash will be dropped, smothering all life.
That would set off the cascadia earth quake creating massive tidal waves and earth quakes, we talked about this extensively in ecology, pretty much an extinction event.
when it does it could spew ash as high as 25 miles into the air, rendering an estimated two-thirds of the country inhabitable.

inhabitable
Everything went better than expected!
So the country will be Fallout with out the radiation?
So am I safe from Super-Volcanic destructiony death and blowing up here in England?
Blast radius: [img_thumb]http://www.survivalistssite.com/~canuck/images/yellowstone/diag_ashfall_sm.jpg[/img_thumb] Arizona's safe..ish.
I don't think anyone noticed, but if that blast radius is right, it's gonna evaporate Washington off the face of the Earth, meaning there will be no more Valve :derp:
Actually drilling could work but would require Billions of dollars in engineering and multiple drills to relieve the pressure equally. Half Life 3 delayed due to a fucking volcano!
Small problem; When Yellowstone blows, it'll be about twenty five thousand times more powerful than Krakatoa, the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history. Suffice it to say, if and when it does blow, it'll fuck not the United States over, not North America over, but it'll fuck the entire planet over. The volume of ash will be in the atmosphere for decades, if not centuries. Nuclear Winter wouldn't even begin to cover it.

Seems that in this thread people either think "Oh good I'm 5 meters outside the circle so I'm fine" or "OMYGAWD EVERYONE ON THE PLANET WILL DIE". We'll all have some big troubles, but it won't be the end of the world (ofcourse depending on the country the effects might be worse).
Good thing I live in Sweden, so I will not have to worry about raining magma, but a bit more about all the ashes. Well, time to buy a gas mask I think.
Though I won't die from the explosion. I'll enjoy my new Fallout like environment. Except colder...since ash will block sunlight.
Nothing will happen
So am I safe from Super-Volcanic destructiony death and blowing up here in England?
see here's the thing the world is already starting to get quite populated as it is with breathing room becoming less and less, so imagine what happens when a fuck load of populated land just gets wrecked and that population has to be moved........also not forgetting the fact that even more area will be covered with a toxic atmosphere for quite some time after the blast.
