My uncle lives on an Island on the Philippines that's being hit the hardest, and he is staying behind after the evacuations because he wasn't allowed to bring his dog that's been with him for 10 years on the way out. He only just built his business there after moving there too, and even sent us an email telling us what to do if we don't hear from him in a couple of days. I hope he's okay :(
Wow, holy shit, 200+mph wind gusts? That's way the hell above the terminal velocity for a human, meaning you'd get blown across the street like a ragdoll. This one definitely deserves the term "Superstorm", i cringe every time i hear on the news about Hurricane Sandy, calling it "Superstorm Sandy". Honestly, Sandy wasn't even that powerful, or damaging, primarily because on the east coast, most cities aren't in below sealevel marshland, unlike when Katrina hit. This thing would just topple every building that gets in its way.
FUCK My cousin has the majority of his family over there
I have majority of my family there, although we all have concrete houses built to withstand typhoons, I hope everyone is safe. I've been through a few typhoons when I used to live there, they weren't good times.

You don't go into work, get to sit in your house all day, drink, and play games. Last major Typhoon out here we played hide and go-seek when the power went out. It was pretty fun. (Okinawa mind you which is pretty much the same area). Although, they can get pretty nasty with destruction and shit (almost destroyed the Popeyes chicken out here and tossed a few cars) best of luck to your family. I'm sure they'll weather it.
Fuck my grandfather is back in the Philippines. I hope he's OK.
Well I'm fucked.
Should've been called Super Typhone Saiyan
Man, I have family out there. I hope they're all okay.
I just realized 190mph wind is equal to an EF4 tornado. And that the same are just suffered an earthquake not long ago.
Update: At least 100 people killed in just one city, bodies 'lying in the streets'

The whole Tacloban City was eaten by a 6 meter Storm Surge and Many people were not aware of it.
My uncle lives on an island there, he was updating Facebook till he lost power. That was over a day ago. Haven't heard from him since. Edit: He's okay.
yeah, well unfortunately the news said communication wont be back up for at least two days and even when it goes back up the islands wont be seeing electricty until god knows when. the storm really hit the place hard which isnt a surprise really given how things are there. probably a dickish thing to say, but it might've been better for everyone if Haiyan hit the capital instead.
How can anyone possibly suggest it's the strongest cyclone in Earth's history?
Shit, looks like the tolls gone up higher, to 1000 people feared dead in Tacloban and approximately 200 in Samar. :( http://www.vagazette.com/news/sns-rt-us-philippines-typhoon-redcross-20131109,0,1078664.story Hope the Filipino members of Facepunch have been able to establish contact with their loved ones.
How can anyone possibly suggest it's the strongest cyclone in Earth's history?
According to wunderground it's only the 4th strongest typhoon in known history. http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=2574
How can anyone possibly suggest it's the strongest cyclone in Earth's history?
NOAA estimates that it's pressure went down as low as 858mb, which would be a worldwide record low, the previous being Super Typhoon Tip at 870mb. Super Typhoon Haiyan had maximum sustained winds of 195mph, which the Joint Typhoon Warning Center says is the most intense cyclone ever recorded since reliable records began While Wunderground says that It's the 4th most intense Cyclone recorded in terms of Wind Speed, Cyclones during the 1940s through 1960s were estimated to be too strong, and Haiyan could very well be the most intense cyclone ever recorded on Earth in history.
According to wunderground it's only the 4th strongest typhoon in known history. http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=2574
Whoops I missread that. Its the strongest to make landfall in history. That's awful.
Yeah but hurricanes have only been recorded since relatively recently, and the earth is billions of years old
Well you can't exactly get records of Typhoons that hit Pangea.
Well you can't exactly get records of Typhoons that hit Pangea.
Imagine, the Earth was hotter then, and there was just one giant ocean. Hurricanes then must have been fucking intense.
Well you can't exactly get records of Typhoons that hit Pangea.
Then what's the point of claiming
Now possibly the Strongest Cyclone in World History
when the window of recorded hurricanes is so tiny?
Then what's the point of claiming when the window of recorded hurricanes is so tiny?
Because it is within what we have recorded. Its impossible for us to really know anything too far back. So we just go with what we have. Why is it such a big deal? Its really necessary to be so pedantic over the whole thing?
Well you can't really say anything apart from "strongest ever recorded hurricane" [editline]9th November 2013[/editline] Anyway the point is we know that there were much stronger hurricanes back when there were larger oceans [editline]9th November 2013[/editline] So it's a dumb statement either way why is this dumb
HOLY FUCKING CHRIST So it's gust qualify for being a fucking F4 tornado?
HOLY FUCKING CHRIST So it's gust qualify for being a fucking F4 tornado?
It's sustained wind qualifies it to be 5mph away from an EF5 tornado, and it's gusts put it well over that
