Even after the approval Chelsea Manning is still being refused gender treatment
If you're "not interested" in transgender stuff, you should really ask yourself why. Like, this isn't a show or a video game, it's real life issues and activism that so many people are involved in.
Alternatively:
Become so "not interested" that when people try to do what they want to do and are biologically programmed to do, it doesn't affect you and you don't impede them

and you don't refer to them as 'it'
The problem is that you don't recognize why you're a bigot when people tell you so.
It's not a "problem". I even said they can do whatever they want with themselves as long as they don't shove it in everyones face like a special snowflake.
I didn't mean to start shit.

you're the only one shoving anything anywhere with you're desire to call these people "it's".
They just want to be ordinary people and you'd rather call them an "it". You don't get any moral highground here about "shoving things in peoples faces".
It's not a "problem". I even said they can do whatever they want with themselves as long as they don't shove it in everyones face like a special snowflake.
I hope so many trans people shove their transness in your face like a bunch of special snowflakes.
if you didn't mean to start shit, why did you call someone an "it"?
Would you be okay if we only referred to you as an "it"?

Shove what? Their existence? Being called the right pronouns? Not being called 'it'?

So starting shit comes naturally to you? :v:
Preaching tolerance and then being extremely ignorant towards people that want nothing to do with this seems a bit biased in my opinion.
You have the right to be an asshole and hate people because they're different, and we reserve the right to continuously call you out on it whenever you bring it up.
I fully support whatever trans people want to do and what not but this whole "shes a she" thing is a bit ridiculous. He's still biologicaly and physically 100% a dude right now. Calling him a guy isn't some horrible anti trans comment.
Gender reassignment is a very long process so if a therapist has approved the motion to progress, that's good enough for me.
whats with the more labels like "cis" and shit like that? why can't we have 3 general definiations of striaght, bi, and gay?
whats with the more labels like "cis" and shit like that? why can't we have 3 general definiations of striaght, bi, and gay?
sexuality != gender
whats with the more labels like "cis" and shit like that? why can't we have 3 general definiations of striaght, bi, and gay?
What, just, what. Those have nothing to do with each other, this is like asking why we need the words man and woman when we have terms like black and white, they have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
To actually explain what "cis" means though, it comes from Latin and means something to the effect of "on the same side of", it's the opposite of "trans" which more or less meant "on the opposite side of", so it's used to refer to individuals who're not transgender.
Or maybe neutral pronouns like they/them?
Why should we automatically assume one is a male?
I know that, but regardless it is still acceptable grammatically to call a person by a male pronoun if you do not know their gender.
I forgot being a criminal strips you of your right to live a healthy and dignified life.
Breaking the law is disregard to the rights of others and then expecting your rights to be respected as a result. Yeah.

maybe if you read a bit you'd find out transgender people's brains are the opposite, females have male brains, males have female brains, try doing some research before spewing crap you shitbird.
My question is...
Why does Manning deserve this treatment "RIGHT FUCKING NOW YOU GUYS SERIOUSLY" when 100% of other transgender American servicemembers who aren't felons and haven't leaked top-secret information aren't authorized?
See, this is what annoys me so much. All I said was that I don't think calling someone who is biologically and physically a gender that gender name as long as its not meant to be disrespectful.
No, my brain doesn't fry, I'm not a bigot, people should be allowed to hold different views on gender identification when they are respectful. Grow up
Basically "boo hoo I dont get to call people what I want". You could be respectful and just call people what they want to be called instead of going out of your way to be an ass.

Instead of thinking "well all of these OTHER people don't get it so why should she", try out "why aren't all these other people getting treatment?"
Am I the only one that isn't surprised about this? Like I'm not against trans people or anything but she commited fucking treason

if I recall correctly they're not 100% how they would go about it, considering male and female service members often serve different roles or have different physical fitness standards. As well as whether or not they'd be physically or emotionally fit to serve during a time in which they were being treated.

I'm kind of of the mind that maybe the fact that prisoners in the US are treated roughly and harshly rather than kindly and with support so as to nourish reintegration into soceity and instill a sense of self worth and self respect is one of the inherent flaws of the US penal system but maybe that's just me
the preemptive response to 'but it's a multi thousand dollar procedure that she doesn't really need' is; you and I can't imagine the pure existential agony and intense internal conflict re: self worth, identity, etc, and all the scary places that can take one when they have been assigned the wrong physical gender at birth, and not treating that condition in the only humane way is like having a prisoner with leukemia and not doing a thing about treating it
I really hate how Facepunch can't debate anything related to transgender issues without the discussion devolving into patronizing name calling and dumb spamming.

I have nothing wrong with her being jailed for her crimes, but she shouldn't be denied proper medical treatment just because she's an incarcerated criminal.
Also isn't being trans still grounds for discharge in the US Army? I thought we're banned from service.
Its not, I never said it was, all I have said this whole thread is that calling a pre operation man a man isn't some horrible bigoted thing. Most people identify sex by if you have a dick or penis, you disagree obviously by that long as post. I think you can identify people in a totally neutral manner like that, you fundamentally disagree. The argument is going to go anywhere, I never thought it would, but being called a bigot over something as passive as that is dumb.
even if it's not completely applicable in this thread and to you, a lot of these posters don't understand that calling someone a bigot or trans-phobic for minor and trivial things(especially misunderstandings, like being unintentionally uninformed about something super specific relating to LGBTQ issues, or not keeping up on the latest terminology that changes so quickly) is hurtful to both their harassment victims, and to their own cause as it dilutes the meaning in relation to real bigots.
Why does FP get such a raging erection from arguing about LGBT stuff.
Because it's important
Why does FP get such a raging erection from arguing about LGBT stuff.
It incites people to say some of the stupidest shit.
Why does FP get such a raging erection from arguing about LGBT stuff.
because human rights
It's a bit of an advanced treatment to give someone considering the usual quality of prison healthcare in the USA, no? Just because he's a high profile case doesn't mean he should be given special treatment when considering the overall shittiness of the rest of the system.
