Battlefield 3 PC Version won't have in-game server browser

Fuck you, EA. You just lost a guaranteed sale to me.
Bait and switch. Its a tactic used throughout history. This is just the modern day equivalent of luring your enemy in with a big banquet and promises of alliance, then poisoning all their food and stabbing them to death in the middle of the night.
Talk about an overreaction

"Eh it's pretty much expected, Wouldn't matter if it wasn't there"
Facepunch on BF3 not having a Dedicated server browser:
"BURN DICE THEY SHOULD PERISH NEVER BUYING AN EA GAME AGAIN"
But yeah, it is a dick move but it isn't that bad, Ace of Spades did that and it worked, plus they can just use patches to readd an in game server browser
Well yeah, you wouldn't praise someone for having oxygen in a submarine but you definitely would tell them they're being idiots if they didn't.
though this is more like the air being in some other place and is transferred to the submarine by a straw, since you can browse servers just not in the game
I don't see they can't allow us to do it both ways. I mean Steam lets us find servers through steam and at the same time through the game so I can't see why we can't choose servers through battle log and at the same time battlefield. It just makes me think they are trying to shove battlelog into are faces which is fine if you like it but not if you don't.

Or in this case the air is teleported into the submarine since it's hardly an inconvenience since the game loads up so fast.
Or in this case the air is teleported into the submarine since it's hardly an inconvenience since the game loads up so fast.
Still means you have to have to log in through you're browser which sucks for me because my computer takes so long to start it up. My vista also freezes a lot when I alt tap a game. There is really no good reason why they can't have server browsing through both battlelog and the game.

From what I've heard that is indeed the case
After trying the alpha, there's really no problem with this. The server browser in your browser (dawg) is actually really functional, more functional than ones I've seen ingame in most games because it doesn't take 5 hours to get the server list, it's just there instantly. Launching and exiting the game literally takes seconds, and the game plays well with minimizing--no issues at all. There's really no problem at all with this, anyone who says otherwise hasn't tried it and is clearly just jumping on the bandwagon.
They haven't tried it because they couldn't, and such a bizzare concept as the one DICE gave us is so alien that people can't imagine it being anything other than clunky. If you ask me, they should show us how well it works because people honestly have no way of knowing that it really isn't a problem. On the other hand, there is no reason why it can't have a server browser in game.
I was ready to soldier through that Origin and Battlelog crap... But now this?
Forget it.

Wait, is it possible to just ALT+TAB and change servers that way?
my automerge :saddowns:

Yeah I've used this system before and it really doesn't make any difference. Still I would prefer it in-game given the choice.
I'd rather they'd leave a choice between battlelog and main menu just since they already have a server browser in place, but its not as terrible as what the posters on the first page were making it out to be (mainly because I don't think any of them played the alpha.) The game loads servers ridiculously fast, faster than any of my other MP games.
Also, while this is a massive assumption, I'm assuming from the backlash, they'll probably end up giving DICE the ability to add it back in. Its almost like EA is trolling everyone just to see people's reactions. There's no way they didn't expect this sort of reaction from the pc community. Maybe they have fun reading retarded knee jerk reactions like the ones on the first few pages.
Its like they're trying to give me as many reasons as possible not to buy this game, and that is not a good marketing strategy.
I remember how many times I'd switch servers to find a decent game in BF2 and BC2
This is not gonna feel good at all.
I understand companies trying to be innovative in many ways but some common sense could be used as well.
I was alright with Origin.
I was a little mad that I couldn't preorder on steam, but it was eventually going to be on so that was alright.
then they threw dlc preorder bullshit.
Now no server browser.
I don't think I'm going to be buying it.
Good job EA, you have joined the ranks of Activision and Ubisoft in horrible game companies.
Have fun making significantly less money from all the none pc sales you will be making.

It has a server browser, just not in game
How could this happen.
I mean in one sense you've given consoles a browser, which is a step forward
In the other you've taken PC's browser away slightly, which is a step back.
BIG step back.
It has a server browser, just not in game
You know what I mean.
You know what I mean.
Like I said though it doesn't really make a difference
Like I said though it doesn't really make a difference
For TF2 it would, where you just press escape and click "browse servers" or whatever and you're there, but this is battlefield we're talking about
Exiting to the menu takes decades in 2142, you also have to disconnect and unload the resources to connect to a new server, and then refresh for a new list. Which probably takes just as long (or longer if your PC is shite) as just exiting BF3 and restarting from a browser.

Seems like they've dumped a ton of investment into BattleLog and Origin, and are going to make sure it succeeds.
AutoLog isn't that bad, but it's not as in your face as BattleLog appears to be. Also, those games have built-in server browsers.
I played the alpha and believe me it did not take long to leave the game and join a new server. It was probably even faster then it is in Bc2 to leave and join a new server.
[editline]19th August 2011[/editline]
From pressing the "join server" to actually being in the server took about 20 seconds in the alpha if not less.
And I just preordered it
Oh well, pissed off but not enough to cancel
Yet another thing for people to bitch about that really has NOTHING to do with how good the game will be, cool.
I mean, I don't know about you guys, but I don't play TF2 for their in-game server browser.

I haven't played bc2 so I don't know what it's like, but are you suggesting that bf3's method of joining servers is quicker than a regular in-game server browser?
Well that's it. Fuck you EA.
I'm still buying your game because it looks great BUT I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I'M ANGRY AND MAKE YOU THINK THAT I WONT BUY IT.
I haven't played bc2 so I don't know what it's like, but are you suggesting that bf3's method of joining servers is quicker than a regular in-game server browser?
pretty sure that's exactly what he's saying, and it could be. really.
Yet another thing for people to bitch about that really has NOTHING to do with how good the game will be, cool.
If I have to exit the game every time I want to join a new server, that's an unnecessary annoyance. This is on top of forcing me to use Origin to play their game even if I buy it retail. I don't agree with Origin's terms of service (specifically their account termination policies) and I'm not going to use it, for one. Second I'm not going to buy the game and support the de-evolution of PC gaming by doing something so ridiculous as removing the server browser.
I'm not here to just bitch. I'm giving my opinion and if they don't make a game that I like then I just won't fucking buy it, quite simple. Why do you feel the need come in and start thread-shitting like a 12 year old because you don't feel like listening to other peoples opinions?
Okay:
I see NOTHING wrong with a web browser server list. In fact, I actually prefer it. Ever play Valve games, and servers don't pop up for some reason? Happens with me everytime I play CS:S, so I have to use game-monitor.
I welcome this.
....I don't think i might get this game if EA begins to act like Activision... which they been doing.
....I don't think i might get this game if EA begins to act like Activision... which they been doing.
No EA has been acting like EA. They have always been doing stuff like this ever since the old days.
