Battlefield 3 PC Version won't have in-game server browser
Yea but they already did it for console so it wouldn't be hard to do it for pc. I'm not saying it has top be perfect but there would be nothing wrong with giving us the option.
It's the first time they did it for console. It wouldn't surprise me if it was shit. But even so, it's a waste of their time building the UI and server browser for when Battlelog is going to be the better / less buggier option. Duplicating features is a waste of capital.
You know complaining is the best thing about pc gaming right? Its what keeps it healthy and helps stop corruption. If EA sees that its losing money because of origins guess what? It wont force origins and if they get enough complains about battlelog then they won't make people need battlelog.
Complaining is what makes PC gaming pathetic sometimes. Sometimes it's justified (like when a company fucks over it's potential customers), but that's not what is being done here. People are just bitching because they didn't get it the way they would like.
Whats with all the battlefield fanboys saying this? If they believe strongly enough that what EA is doing is bad for gaming then we should be proud they are willing to boycott this game.
boycotting for mod support, steam availability, and flexible dedis are things that I understand, but imo boycotting over this specific issue seems like a massive knee jerk reaction
also you make it sound so bad with "forcing us to log in every time we play" but really, steam forces you to log in, so does Battlefield 2 - actually, virtually every single online service 'forces' you to log in to use their services - what's new?
Its completely uneeded. They could very easily put in ingame browser and for someone like me this could be a big problem because alt tabbing my games cause them to freeze a lot. It also means I have to have firefox running which takes a while to start up for me.
boycotting for mod support, steam availability, and flexible dedis are things that I understand, but imo boycotting over this specific issue seems like a massive knee jerk reaction
I was talking mostly about the other things. This is something that adds to that and I believe complaining could solve.
but that's not what is being done here. People are just bitching because they didn't get it the way they would like.
Yea thats true with every complaint. WHen do people complain because they get what they want?

I'm not even talking about that though, you were complaining about having to log in to play
also if alt-tabbing and firefox bogs down your computer, are you sure you can even run this game?
[editline]wef[/editline]
also, how about just closing the game and starting it again?
From what I've heard from testers in this thread, it's lightning quick

Its not a waste when theres people like me out there who can't easily alt tap there games and get back in without it not reponding and there are a lot of people out there that don't want to do everything in there game.
Thinking about canceling my pre-order...
also if alt-tabbing and firefox bogs down your computer, are you sure you can even run this game?
Its because vista is crappy and freezes a lot.
Now what if you want to switch servers
Close game
Find new server
Hit play
Wait for game to load again
ooops server is full
Close game
Find new server
Hit play
Wait for game to load again
In the alpha, it was more like this.
Close game
find new server
Reserves a spot
Loads game
Play Game
I was never kicked out of the game because it was full.
It takes pretty much nothing to make it though.
You've got nothing to enforce that sentiment, plus it's generally not true. It takes a fair amount of resources to get the GUI working well, graphics for it, etc. Obviously not as much time as the 3D engine, but still eno

My computer struggles alt tabbing out of Source and other games. BF3 Alpha worked instantly, even though my computer wasn't fast enough to run the game at more than 30FPS.

Even if they just wanted to port the xbox version over it would be better then nothing and again not the hardware its more of it being vista that causes it to freeze then me not having good hardware and having other autorun programs for why firefox takes a while to open up. It means it will take a while if I want to play battlefield as soon as I get home.
So people prefer starting the game, skipping intro crap, logging in, setting filters, then having the servers load really slow every time they want to play multiplayer? Battelog let's you get into a game in not even 20 seconds.
Also, you don't even need to alt-tab the game to change servers, the time it takes to quit the game is not even 2 seconds, DICE even said so. By the time you alt-tab and find another server, you could have just quit, found another server, and already be on the loading screen. Also, if you keep your browser open, you can find another server and get in to it damn quick. Hell, set Battlelog as your homepage and make it so it remembers your login information so you don't have re-enter it every time, and it will be even easier.
I'm getting really tired of shit like this when EA announces something related to BF3. People need to stop and think about it.

Whats with all the battlefield fanboys saying this? If they believe strongly enough that what EA is doing is bad for gaming then we should be proud they are willing to boycott this game.
Because I, along with many others, will be enjoying one of the best FPS's to date, because we aren't going to let something like the lack of an in-game server browser, in a game made to be launched from a browser, ruin it for us.
I'm not even a Battlefield fanboy, I just know what the fuck I should and shouldn't be complaining about.
Because I, along with many others, will be enjoying one of the best FPS's to date, because we aren't going to let something like the lack of an in-game server browser in a game made to be launched from a browser.
Man you sound like a fanboy. SO you're saying because your not willing boycott for what they believe in they shouldn't either. Especially the ones that aren't as hyped for it as you and its not just the ingame browser its also the origins stuff, the no mod tools and because EA lied.

You're not boycotting, you're ranting on an internet forum.
Origin isn't a problem for me, because its a small program which makes no difference in what I'm playing.
No mod tools, not because of EA, but because of how Frostbite 2 works, you cannot mod it like you can with Source or other engines.

Oh boo hoo someone from in a company lied, are you 14 or something? It's not like DICE haven't come out and said creating mod tools would be too difficult and costly for Frostbite 2, not that people haven't said DICE are liars for some idiotic reason.
What happened to dice getting back to their pc gamer roots?
That was Dice, EA takes the wheel and turns it their console way.
Oh boo hoo someone from in a company lied,
You see nothing wrong with lying to a costumer especially when they could have already pre-ordered it? So are you one of the people who support ubisofts putting surprise drm on from dust even though they said they wound't? Are you saying as someone who spent my money on it I should deal with it and not complain?
No ingame server browser?
WHAT THE FUCK EA
You see nothing wrong with lying to a costumer especially when they could have already pre-ordered it? Instead of complaining and making a fool of yourself here, why don't you complain to EA or Ubisoft? You know, the companies you keep ranting about. Noone here can change anything.

Remember when Gabe said the PS3 is a piece of shit and Valve would never work with it because the developer kits are shit? And do you also remember at E3 2010 when he came out in Sony's conference and said the 360 is shit and they're going to be working with the PS3 with Portal 2? Exact same thing, companies make statements all the time then retract and alter them and if anyone actually believed Ubisoft wasn't going to put their DRM in on From Dust is either naive or the most optimistic person on earth.
Oh and when did EA/DICE ever say there was going to be an ingame browser?
Remember when Gabe said the PS3 is a piece of shit and Valve would never work with it because the developer kits are shit? Like most of the people that where in the alpha. The browser based server browser wasn't actually all that bad. The game launched really quick, and had no issues exiting the game.
boycotting for mod support, steam availability, and flexible dedis are things that I understand, but imo boycotting over this specific issue seems like a massive knee jerk reaction
No one is doing that. It's for all of it. People are just 'having the last straw'. Let them do it, lots of people began doubting BF3 with the first footage and tweets. These things just add to the decision.
Instead of complaining and making a fool of yourself here, why don't you complain to EA or Ubisoft? You know, the companies you keep ranting about. The one giving real reasons as to why you should be angry at a company or the one that says we shouldn't care or do anything about it? At least I might be making a difference.
Oh and when did EA/DICE ever say there was going to be an ingame browser?
You didn't just post that, did you?
Theres a difference between lying and then telling the truth when its a good thing and lying about something you paid for and then having it be a bad thing.
Fine then, remember when Valve said episodic content was the shit and that it'd lower development time?
Yea and what makes you think I'm not and really whos more of the fool. The one giving real reasons as to why you should be angry at a company or the one that says we shouldn't care or do anything about it? At least I might be making a difference.
You really need to grow up.
And learn how to read, too.
You didn't just post that, did you?
imasillypiggy is talking about people from EA/DICE lying, they never did say what we'd be using to get into games.
Fine then, remember when Valve said episodic content was the shit and that it'd lower development time?
Theres a difference between not being right because of developing problems and lying to people who might have pre-bought your game when you have full control over it.
You really need to grow up.
and learn how to read.
You said yourself many times that boycotting and bitching is stupid. I mean thats what this whole argument is about. Grow up you're the one insulting because I disagree with you on videogames.
Like I said, learn to read.
You are not boycotting by posting your idiotic opinions and assumptions. If you want to boycott BF3, talk to EA or DICE.
