Ea, youre making it very hard for me to want this game. I think I'll just get it on xbox.
Not trying to suck up or anything but Swebonny has hit it on the head rather well guys.
Yes but it wouldn't be that hard to create a server list in game. Really I will admit i'm not a game expert but can you really say putting an ingame browser when they already made one for the consoles and made a browser for a website would really be that hard? I mean it doesn't have to look pretty or anything just take the same information that the site is taking. I mean if super small indie games can have browsers I don't really see why it would be so hard for a company like dice to make another one.
They've struggled with all their games, so either assume they're not good at menu systems, they're not spending enough at it, or they just don't care about it.
With what they've done, it works - having one working out of game one and one broken ingame one is bad for their reputation.
I'm sorry, but if EA's going to be so willfully ignorant of the PC gaming market, then I'm going to choose to be willfully ignorant of EA.
Besides, I'll be playing Skyrim, so I could care less about how badly they screw up BF3.
Oh wow BF3 sure looks awesome compared to all other games now doesn't it?
Pathetic! Serves the "BF3 master race" right for being dicks.
A different sort of server browser?
THATS RIDICULOUS?!
WITHOUT EVEN GIVING THIS STRANGE NEW BROWSER A TRY, IM GOING TO SAY THIS GAME FUCKING SUCKS
You dont have to try the new system to be disappointed in the concept
Its like if someone made a cake out of shit, you wouldnt have to try the cake to know you probably dont want to eat lots of it

yeah it does looks awesome compared to other games.
Since you know
THIS DOESN'T AFFECT GAMEPLAY

So EA's target audience is people with scat fetishes :tinfoil:

Theres only one thing that doesn't have anything to do with gameplay that would stop me from buying Battlefield 3.
Lack of Dedicated servers
Fuck it, I'll just get Skyrim instead.
BF3 is no longer candidate for Game of the Year.
Skyrim wins.
Woop-dedoo!
Going to pre-order soon anyway.
Good thing i never preordered BF3, and now it seems that i'm not going to buy it at all.
Better to just give the money to the homeless bums.
People don't want a 'facebook' for their videogames. People just want to play a game.
Blizzard tried something similar with their real-ID thing, and there was such a massive backlash that it scared the shit out of them, and they pretty much reworked the whole thing.
Difference:
BLIZZARD: HEY YOU GUYS CHECK THIS AWESOME NEW REAL-ID THING
PLAYERS: WTF NO THAT SUCKS
BLIZZARD: OH, OK. WE'LL REWORK IT
PLAYERS: COOL
EA: HEY YOU GUYS CHECK OUT THIS AWESOME NEW BATTLELOG THING
PLAYERS: WTF NO THAT SUCKS
EA: YOU WILL LEARN TO LOVE IT
PLAYERS: NO WE WONT *leave*
EA: PC GAMING IS DEAD
When did they ever say they won't change it?
Anyone else feel that they've really narrowed their own audience? For me usability is one of the key aspects I look for in a game, if I'm having to back peddle out of the game just to join a new server it just doesn't seem worth it. Sure they showed a trailer in all it's glory with all the bells and whistles but seriously I chose PC gaming for the sheer fact I could browse endless servers, choose one and pop I'd be in there.
I am getting skyrim first now, I got to see how the fuck this works, its probably going to be horrid like the alpha one.

Not give it a try? I played the alpha, It had this, it was horrid.
in fact, there’s no other game that requires you to exit in order to switch servers.
Supreme commander & Supreme commander - Forged alliance
Supcom's system works perfectly fine.
I have absolutely no problem with this.

So, Instead of hitting disconnect, find a new server, then look, you got to Exit the game, go to the website, launch the game with its fucking splash screens showing EA and DICE, then connect to the server. EVERY. FUCKING. TIME. Sounds like a fucking bad idea.

yeah but that's not what happens
you clearly have no idea how it works if you really think it that's the case

Supcom skips the splash screens when launching it using the browser, and for my dual core 3.0 ghz, 4 gb ram, ati radeon 4870 1GB it takes less than a second to launch, and under 5 seconds to connect (Unless the host's internet sucks).
EDIT: But yeah, having an ingame browser would be nicer. It's just not something that puts me off from buying the game.

Did you play the BF3 Alpha?
Did you play the BF3 Alpha?
Yes. Still fucking is stupid. Don't say this is a good idea, its fucking stupid.
I don't like it either, but I was in a server and playing with in like 5-7 seconds. Faster than BF2.

if you played the alpha how on earth did you manage to make it that complicated
do you also exit out of steam and relaunch it every time you play a game or what
Yes.
No you didn't. You clearly don't fucking know how battlelog works.
At least keep the lies to a minimum.
Um... that was Legal issues bro, that's completely different.
What's with the Valve shit talking lately?, it worries me.
Sort of a bit off topic here but Valve have lied for years.. they faked the E3 2003 AI demonstration footage from Ravenholm and hyped it up like it was actual footage.. when the leak came out Valve was extremely embarrassed because it revealed that the footage was scripted and fake. Valve lies just like any of these other companies. I can also think of numerous times when they missed dates for not only game releases but major updates. They aren't the most professional company out there.
But at least Valve includes dedicated servers and in game server browsers in their games (you know, features that are supposed to come standard with multiplayer games) and their games are actually good enough to excuse their un professional behavior.

What? that last part makes no sense. And IT TOOK FUCKING LONGER THAN BC2 AND BF2 to start, maybe they will fix it. maybe but come on, why fix something that isn't fucking broken and works.

how does that not make sense
why would you close the server browser if you know that you're going to be going back on it again
(sigh) Damnit. I want to love this game. I've played battlefield from the beginning(with the exception of 2142) and I've loved the series for so long. Since the Bad Company games, I was hoping for a return to it's roots, which I thought this game would be.
But everyday, I see yet another news story like this. I find more reasons to turn away all the time. The game looks good, but everything else surrounding it is going to hell. I dunno, I think I'll cancel my preorder and get it on sale some time after release, if at all.
I like how this thread has more posts than all these emergent global issues.

IF BF3 took that long, I'd say fix your computer. The vast majority of people I talked to would load the game in less than 10 seconds.
Ok choose: 64 players or server browser.
