Well I think this is gonna make me do what I did with bc2: Wait 1 year or more then buy it when the prices drop.
man I miss when games had a LAN mode.
Wc3 is still the best game with lan support amirite
No one seems to give a shit about the opinions of the people who actually PLAYED THE DAMN GAME.
From the BF3 thread:
EDIT: EVEN MORE
FROM THIS VERY THREAD:
And I've seen so many people saying "Hurr it's so fuckin stupid that I gotta alt+tab to switch servers," when people have REPEATEDLY corrected this statement saying that YOU DON'T ALT+TAB TO SWITCH SERVERS, you just close the game and pick another one from battlelog.
Can't be arsed to open up your browser every time you wanna switch? Use a browser with a low footprint like Chrome and keep it open with the game. PROBLEM FUCKING SOLVED.
A* post.
Yeah, I can also vouch for it. It's not as bad as everyone who hasn't played it is making it out to be. It works fairly well. I mean it was really responsive and it worked well. The game started up very, very quick. It was really just select server, load map, play.
So what happens when/if Battlelog goes down?
Same thing that happens in all the other BF games when the EA servers go down. You can't play.
"The PC version will get more attention."
Yeah right.
A PC Exclusive server browser and stat-tracking features + community social features, commo-rose, 64 Players, full sized maps isn't enough attention DICE change it back.
Funfact: in BF2 you have to disconnect from a server before you join another one, so this is just about the exact same thing.
Just canceled my preorder, BF3 was probably going to be GOTY for me. Not going to buy it until we get a real server browser.
Seriously, people like you need to grow up.
I was a little iffy on Origin.. but whatever. What's another downloading service/patcher?
Heard about BattleLog and thought it was such a fucking stupid idea... but atleast the game wouldn't bee too effected.
But this is the last nail in the coffin for me. Fuck you EA -- right when I thought you were back on track.
I think EA tried too hard. They wanted to make something special for the PC gamers, such as the battlelog with Facebook like features and so on, but forgot that no PC gamer asked for it.
Great in theory but perhaps bad in practice. I didn't really like it when I played the alpha, but if you think it's going to change my decision to buy the game or not then you're wrong.
I've only read the first page, and it saddens me how all of you or so thickheaded. EA and DICE have made so much to please the PC gamers, and what do they get in return?
Tons and tons of kids screaming at them. Haha, there's really no difference between PC gamers and console gamers.
The EAUK forums have made it really clear what they want since Day 1, heck since BC2. No excuse for this EA.
Well.
So much for buying that.

You're acting like we're obligated to buy the game. Customers control what they want in a product, how so? By not buying it if they don't like it.
The EAUK forums have made it really clear what they want since Day 1, heck since BC2. No excuse for this EA.
The EAUK forums wanted BF2HD. The EA forums =/= entire BF Fanbase, and they are not in control of game development. If I get a couple friends to join me and suggest DICE add 'Realistic Gardening Mechanics' to BF3 and gain a small following, it doesn't mean DICE has to do it.
More importantly I shouldn't throw a fit like a fucking baby when it doesn't happen.
(And then make 40 different posts about how I'm cancelling my pre-order)

depends on the reason
this is not a good reason
depends on the reason
this is not a good reason
It could be if you're willing to hold off until they fix it. I bet you anything if they get enough people complaining they will put an ingame browser in as well.

but what do people have against this system? sure, it's not traditional but it works just as well
Seriously, people like you need to grow up.
How DARE a customer not buy something he doesn't approve of, how dare he, he owes EA his purchase, it's his duty.
but what do people have against this system? sure, it's not traditional but it works just as well
Well my games freeze a lot (I like to blame vista) so having to shut it off and then turn it back on everytime I want to start a game means i'm going to have to go through a lot of freezes. I don't mind battelog but for people like me an ingame browser would be much better.

the guy said that he's not going to buy it until he gets a 'real server browser'
that's seriously not a good reason, when again and again, alpha testers said it works well
Well my games freeze a lot (I like to blame vista) so having to shut it off and then turn it back on everytime I want to start a game means i'm going to have to go through a lot of freezes. I had vista for around 2.5 years and I've never had much problems with freezes/crashes
maybe you need some troubleshooting done to your computer
Oh well, people who cancelled their preorders will miss out on one of the most anticipated games this year.
I always thought that the Intro screen, Login, and Refreshing server browser on the main menu kinda annoying.
Can't wait to see how BattleLog turns out.
This is baby back bullshit!
This is baby back bullshit!
People whining about this is baby bullshit
this is why the valve approach to advertising games always wins
dont say anything, then just release game
Anybody cancelling preorders because of no ingame server browser: please don't rebuy the game.
Ever.
We don't need whiners like you on there.
Muhammad is displeased.
People whining about this is baby bullshit
Yea people should never want give concern or complain about products. How else do you think anything si going to change if people don't complain?

Vista isn't that old, and I've never had bullshit freezes on it, try updating your service packs
Even if I somewhat complained on the first page, I must say that it ain't that bad.
I was an alpha-tester myself, and I must say that this browser is fast as fuck, you join a server through it, and a couple of seconds later you're in-game. Compared to BC2 where it takes about 1 minute just to get to the browser, then join a server and wait some more for it to load.
You were just told, by about a billion people who DID play in the alpha, that it works extremely well, and you're still "concerned"?
Don't give me that bullshit. You're sticking to your opinion merely because it's your opinion.
DId you hear the part where I said my game freezes, not everyone uses firefox or chrome or that browsers take a while to start up?
your games freeze probably because there's something wrong with your computer
also I think if people have intentions of buying Battlefield 3 on the computer, they'll have computers that don't get bogged down by a single tab
my atom netbook doesn't have problems starting and surfing the web with multiple tabs - and it's running Home Premium with aero
Good for you. Now again there is no reason why they shouldn't have the option to find servers from in game. Even if it was just putting battlelog ingame I wouldn't mind. Just having the option would make things way better.

there's no reason why they should scrap their current system
you're right - they could've implemented battlelog in-game, but what's done is done, and they did a pretty good job with it
