Battlefield 3 PC Version won't have in-game server browser

BF3 is a real enough sequel.
BF2 was extremely different to BF1942 and BF: V, but people were happy.
EA is obviously doing this so player will switch to consoles so they can make more money. They have done their research. For instance, would you rather want your customers to go on steam and get left 4 dead 2 with the passing and all the other DLC for about 20 and the DLC is free,OR buy a 360,buy left 4 dead for about $40,buy the passing for about $5,and the the other ones for $5. Bit of a rant there...

i don't see that second post! that's weird.
As it is, I'm still on Windows XP. I had planned on upgrading to 7 (and plugging in the other 2gb of ram I have laying around) specifically for BF3, but now its just not worth the effort.
This is retarded and whoever made this decision should feel bad
You'll be able to do all that with Battlelog. The only difference is Steam has a platform that allows for that to occur. No one ever expected Battlefield 3 to use Steamworks.
No I wont
Uh, I quite like being able to join a Source game server by either the in game browser, a link from a website, the steam server browser or the steam overlay web/server browser.
It's just convenient, okay
Battlelog does not offer an in game browser and origin doesn't have a server browser/web browser overlay

It only doesn't support XP, who told you it was 64bit only?

oh cool, I hope that has battlelog in it
Alright lets all send angry emails to EA.
Oh no, the game is ruined, I'm going to go buy call of duty because I'm such a rebel :downs:
No I'm going to buy RO2 because I don't play shit games

IIRC it has a web browser like steam overlay.
IIRC it has a web browser like steam overlay.
well that's one extra option then, which is good

Fixed
Battlelog does not offer an in game browser and origin doesn't have a server browser/web browser overlay
It does indeed, just you don't want to realise it. Origin does that job.
Seriously, the out of game server browser is genius. It works better than any ingame server browser has previously.
This system means reliably starting Battlefield 3 alongside Steam is going to be impossible. Aside from starting from Battlelog instead of starting straight from an executable (which could be added to your Steam library), BF3 is going to quit and restart every time you change servers anyway. Could be as fast and effective as everyone who's tried it claims, but even if there were a way around Battlelog, the Steam overlay wouldn't be able to keep up at all.
Which means the only effective way to stay connected with anyone while playing Battlefield 3 is, sure enough, to use Origin and Battlelog. Clever.
Despite being over a decade old, it's still fully playable and enjoyable, that really says something about how well it's made, huh?
I mean it's still selling hundreds of thousands of copies a year, it's pretty damn successful.
Cs1.6 is a real successful shooter game.
Others should follow what they did.

The aim would not have been to stop people from using the Steam overlay, that's just a repercussion of the way they operated.
Regardless, Steam already operates in a manner than if a DirectX program is launched by another one (but the launcher is opened by Steam) then Steam will inject the overlay into the DirectX program. Only problem is all newer versions of browsers use DirectX for hardware acceleration, they didn't use to.
I'm sure Valve will fix it up though.
After having a couple shitty BF2 games a part of me hopes BF2 will never ever have a true sequel ever.
So here's a .gif

I can't see myself committing to Origin to the same extent I have with Steam. Even though I don't normally play online with people I know, I still have the Steam overlay on hand in case people want to talk while I'm playing BC2. Steam is where most of my friends are and all I'm certain of is that not all of the people I talk with are going to be getting Battlefield 3 or will be interested in having a presence on Origin. I don't have any strong feelings either way about Origin (though I'm not entirely sold on it as a serious competitor to Steam) but if Battlefield 3 is purposefully designed so I can't use a certain platform to stay in contact with those I know while playing, then I find that discouraging.
Oops, I meant to say it's not designed to purposefully not operate with Steam.
It will be possible to get the overlay working with BF3.
99.9% sure they won't change it. No real reason to do so.
People didn't like 3D spotting, so DICE redid it. People wanted a Commo-Rose, so DICE put it in.
The fact of the matter is that DICE is very receptive to community feedback and EA doesn't want a full-fledged sequel of one of its flagship series to sink, so they're listening to the community. If you don't like what they're doing with the series, tell them. It's called capitalism, people. Companies give products that people want. If people don't want it, they'll change it so they do.
So, if you want the in-game browser so bad, go and tell them that you don't want to be confined to a web browser-based server browser, and get your friends to do it. There are at least 3 Twitter accounts of DICE devs that are taking questions and suggestions and EA has a whole forum committed to this stuff, so make your voice heard. But, for the love of god, don't just say "WOW THIS GAME SUX CANCELLING PREORDER GETTING MW3 WAHWAHWAH" and do nothing about it. Acting like a spoiled child to even the simplest changes degrades the respect of the PC community and makes it more akin to the console community. If they get enough people to say (maturely) that they want one, they'll make one, I can almost guarantee you. Hell, while you're at it, ask for support for the Steam overlay or maybe even ask them to allow it to operate without Origin; it's worth a try.
EA can't afford a mistake on a flagship series like this, that much they've made clear, so they'll be receptive of it; chances are they were testing the waters with this, anyhow, and were ready to change it, but that's just my opinion.
Also, remember, there is an open beta going on in September, so you'll have a chance to test out Battlelog personally if you weren't already in the Alpha.
TL;DR: Instead of whining like a little spoiled baby, why don't you tell them maturely that you want a server browser. EA can't screw up a major release like this and DICE listens to the community, so if you get enough people to do it, they'll change it.

Only to get kicked by Punkbuster when you do get it working.
Only to get kicked by Punkbuster when you do get it working.
Yea bf2 didn't work with steam so I don't think 3 will either. Especially since origins wants to beat steam.
Yea bf2 didn't work with steam so I don't think 3 will either. Especially since origins wants to beat steam.
BC2 worked with Steam, I think, so it's still entirely possible BF3 would as well.
BC2 worked with Steam, I think, so its still entirely possible BF3 would as well.
Yea it did so I wont say it won't work for certain but the reason bc2 did was because it was made with steam in mind. This isn't. I guess we could ask alpha testers if they were able to get it through steam and if they did if punk busters kicked them for it.
Fuck it, I'll just get Skyrim instead.
excellent choice
Still uneasy about it, but it won't ruin the game I suppose.
I'm having my doubts about how fast it is to exit-restart the game. Suppose the open beta will reveal that.

BF2 used to work with Steam like even a year before it came out on Steam, but Steam went through updates, which changed it's "signature" and PB for BF2 hasn't been updated since.
