They might not do so right away as they do have a population problem. Japan needs Breeders not this.
Oh man I love it when people ignore the fact that queer couples can have children just fine, and even sometimes the couples don't need to go outside of their relationship for assistance. Examples: as cis gay man and a gay transman have the potential children, same with other pairings like an asexual women and a pansexual man
yeah don't do it japan otherwise you could face devastating consequences such as
America legalized gay marriage and serious issues happened because of this, you assholes should have just listened to people list of terrible country destroying stuff caused by this [sp]1. homophobes got super buttmad and were totally pwned 2. Some stupid lady divorced her husband because "If gays marry we will divorce" or something stupid 3. Gays fuck 4. Earth continues to spin[/sp]
Jinx, just hope stuff like this article from polico (http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/06/gay-marriages-better-than-straight-marriages-119465.html#.VZ9Zm_lySSo) don't become more main stream. If they do, I don't think it will make you look good.
How did you miss this in the OP? Social conformity is and has been a huge thing in post-war Japanese culture, and being a sexual minority and not hiding it (so that you "look" straight around others) is going against the social norm as it's established. They don't care about it if you keep it out of sight. A real DADT situation. Now, this is not true for every single Japanese person, of course, there're plenty of LGBT across the generational spectrum (as seen in the photo in the OP) and likely a reasonable number of people who don't actually give a shit, but it's been the social status quo. This is why the fight is happening now. 10 years ago, one of the most prominent "gay" representations in Japanese mass media was this guy (skip the first minute): Razor Ramon HG (Hard Gay) goes to a kids' park to find a kid who doesn't like eating green peppers so he can try and win him over by cooking it up buried in other flavours. Copious pelvic hipthrusts next to kids under 8. At 2:40 a kid talks to his crotch. It's comedy, but there wasn't also an Ellen Show to balance out the picture.
Let's not forget this happend
Japan is also hella xenophobic, at least compared to western nations. Canada and America have undergone similar birthrate shrinkages in the past couple decades but their populations are growing because both countries systems are set up to be more conducive to immigration.
Jinx, just hope stuff like this article from polico (http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/06/gay-marriages-better-than-straight-marriages-119465.html#.VZ9Zm_lySSo) don't become more main stream. If they do, I don't think it will make you look good.
Are you trying to say that people will turn gay because their straight relationship runs into more trouble than that of gay couples'? And if not, what are you arguing? Because I can't make any sense of it.
They might not do so right away as they do have a population problem. Japan needs Breeders not this.
I'll have to take it upon myself to fly over and help out. No need to thank me, it's what I do.
Oh man I love it when people ignore the fact that queer couples can have children just fine, and even sometimes the couples don't need to go outside of their relationship for assistance. Examples: as cis gay man and a gay transman have the potential children, same with other pairings like an asexual women and a pansexual man
Why would an asexual person have children? Is there a different definition?
Jinx, just hope stuff like this article from polico (http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/06/gay-marriages-better-than-straight-marriages-119465.html#.VZ9Zm_lySSo) don't become more main stream.
Didn't ancient japan accept homosexuality?
Japan sees being gay as a fetish not a sexuality
Let's not forget this happend
Japan is way fucking weird In this show, punishments (among other things) included getting sat on by naked boys
Why would an asexual person have children? Is there a different definition?
While they may lack sexual attraction to others, they do still have relationships. And they can still want children same as any other person.
Jinx, just hope stuff like this article from polico (http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/06/gay-marriages-better-than-straight-marriages-119465.html#.VZ9Zm_lySSo) don't become more main stream. This is not an argument that even the most insane religious right-wingers are attempting to make with any real frequency. It's laughable and frankly insulting that you would even try to insinuate this. Did you even read that article? It has nothing to do with procreation at all. A psychologist did a study and found that gay relationships are more stable. How is this a threat to anything but your own sense of insecurity?
How? Their only source are from breeders and consenting people of the opposite sex (for stuff like In vitro).
I too refer to other human beings a breeders

Sure, there's racist people in Japan, mostly among the elderly and the rural population (much like in the USA or really most places) but otherwise you're not going to get any people going "waito piggu go homu". People make a hell of a scene about Japan when it comes to certain subjects but it's really easy to just invent falsehoods about Japan and people eat it up because it seems "japanese-ey".

I have no idea how you can interpret that as xenophobia.

They will also say this when it comes to parenting.
I'm saying with this that the people who support you are going to try to pound it into people like me that Homosexuality is superior to heterosexuality, opposed to being equal.
They love to randomly use English and almost all anime-style characters look white. I have no idea how you can interpret that as xenophobia.
How does this keep coming up? It's completely false. Also, everyone uses loan words and gratituous english/german/french/russian/spanish/whatever because it sounds cool. This isn't something exclusive to Japan, and it sure as hell isn't exclusive to non-xenophobic people either.
When do people ever say this? What the fuck? That article you linked is the first time I've even seen that suggested.
As far as I can figure, it's publications like this that say stuff like this.

Man, if you think they were bad after the war.
As far as I can figure, it's publications like this that say stuff like this.
"homosexual relationships are generally more stable" is not the same as "homosexual relationships are superior" the article isn't saying gay people have gay magic that makes their relationships magically better, it's saying gay people are, generally speaking, more comfortable when talking to each other about sensitive issues and as a result are less defensive.
They love to randomly use English and almost all anime-style characters look white. I have no idea how you can interpret that as xenophobia.
The racism isn't aimed at white people. Its aimed at other asians, S/N Koreans, Chinese, Filipinos, etc.
I'm saying with this that the people who support you are going to try to pound it into people like me that Homosexuality is superior to heterosexuality, opposed to being equal. Nobody here is doing what you are saying. So I'm gonna have to say giant fucking citation needed right there. You're getting concerned over nothing.
Post war? Man, if you think they were bad after the war.
Before the war isn't really relevant here, though.
How does this keep coming up? It's completely false.
Maybe it is cultural bias, but a lot of anime characters look distinctly white to me, particularly their hair.
Maybe it is cultural bias, but a lot of anime characters look distinctly white to me, particularly their hair.
That's just a side-effect of anime character designs being very heavily template-based, so things like hair style and color have to be more varied in order to tell characters apart. And the big eyes are there to be expressive--it's not like white people have eyes that big either.
Japan is way fucking weird In this show, punishments (among other things) included getting sat on by naked boys
Maybe it's the cure for homophobia -
Spain isn't really that progressive but we legalized gay marriage 10 years ago. And even called 'marriage' no civil unions or some shit to keep religious folk happy. So yeah I can see them doing this, it's 2015 after all.
I'm in the camp that if you have synonymous marriage rights like many European states do and the main difference is the wording on the certificate, that's a personal problem more than a civil rights one. It's not a "Separate but equal" type thing where one person is getting the short stick if you're getting the same benefits.
I'm in the camp that if you have synonymous marriage rights like many European states do and the main difference is the wording on the certificate, that's a personal problem more than a civil rights one. It's not a "Separate but equal" type thing where one person is getting the short stick if you're getting the same benefits.
But the implication of the different wording is that gay relationships don't have equal worth with straight relationships in the eyes of the state. 'Separate but equal' isn't bad because one group has it worse than the other; segregating black and white washbasins is still wrong even if the washbasins are the same.

Maybe gay parents are better on average, maybe not, but either way I don't see how people making claims one way or the other affects you.
