• French winemakers get angry, pour 5 tankers of Spanish wine down the drain
This is actually a legitimate grievance of these winemakers if it's true-- not only for their part since this affects their industry, but it's also a legitimate grievance for French consumers as well who aren't actually getting what they paid for. If this situation is anything like what goes on here in the United States, then it probably is true or at least has some truth to it. Labeling loopholes in general shouldn't be tolerated, especially when it comes to food and beverages. It needs to be a simple matter of, "This is what we're selling, this is where it is from, this is how it was manufactured, and this is what you're spending your money on if you choose to buy it." Transparency is important in general (and should be coupled with rigorous standards), but it's especially important when it comes to consumables.
Does it really warrant property damage, though?
What a massive waste.
What a massive waste.
mightve just been shitty wine

Not that their cause has much to stand on to begin with since they've already been well known for shit like wine riots and that protest at the Tour de France because they were using a spanish wine as a sponsor. If you're going to fight mislabeling and shady business practices, don't be arrogant enough to take the law into your own hands. Take legal action against the firms trying these practices by collecting proof and putting it before a consumer court. It's understandable they're upset that it affects local winemaking industries, but they should have stuck to collecting the samples instead of resorting to property damage. Hell, they could have stopped the trucks if they wanted to, and it would still have been better. Admittedly, when somebody's angry enough about something, they do tend to go overboard in their reactions, but I still wish they'd have gone about it in a more peaceful manner. Then again, I honestly misdoubt me that anything else might be effective in bringing it to the notice of the authorities, who seem to be very lax in dealing with an issue that's this serious according to the local farmers.
Wine is hardly even alcohol. If it takes more than 3 bottles to start feeling it, and its not beer, its not worth the time it takes to drink it.
something might be wrong with your tolerance, your metabolism, or your wine choices if the equivalent of ~18 beers doesn't do anything for you.

Either you've been drinking since age 4 or the wine in question is super weak [editline]7th April 2016[/editline] Like you can get drunk on 3-4 beers if you drink quickly while having an empty stomach and not sleeping well
Wine is hardly even alcohol. If it takes more than 3 bottles to start feeling it, and its not beer, its not worth the time it takes to drink it.
3 bottles? Are you sure the wine you're drinking isn't 3/4 water and 1/4 of actual wine?
Thats the only type of alcohol you can mainline so i hear So very selfish. Theres alcoholics out there suffering because of this.
also alcohol tolerance varies rather widely with people, depending on the levels of alcohol dehydrogenases in both liver and bloodstream. Caucasian populations tend to have higher levels of the stuff in general, but resistance varies independently in various cultures. A higher body mass also ensure higher tolerance. Diet, consumption patterns, and average weight also play roles in the calculation. Theres alcoholics out there suffering because of this.
injecting any form of alcohol into your bloodstream has a very real chance of killing you or causing severe alcohol poisoning (confusion, seizures, cyanosis, vomiting, irregular breathing) Not to mention it would fuck up any vein you injected it in and cause extravasation and further damage in most cases.
something might be wrong with your tolerance, your metabolism, or your wine choices if the equivalent of ~18 beers doesn't do anything for you.
Bottles of wine are like 4-5 glasses and its normally around 12+ drinks that I get noticeably drunk. But I've downed multiple bottles of wine and never felt it until the following morning with a headache.
Wine is hardly even alcohol. If it takes more than 3 bottles to start feeling it, and its not beer, its not worth the time it takes to drink it.
But wine is like 8-15% alcohol content, a single bottle would get most people noticeably drunk.... a whole bottle would be enough to reeeeeeally fuck me up. I don't think I have a huge tolerance. 1 bottle will get me pretty toasty but I can still move around just fine.
I always wonderee how the european or american thinks when they say " that doesnt help their cause" when talking about strikes or blocking or fucking shit up. Really You'll be hard pressed to find a latin american who thinks the same. Maybe the gov is super powerful and squashes all those protests like bugs.

We just think that if you're going to throw a tantrum and destroy property that isn't yours then you've committed a crime, are acting like a child and probably aren't worth being taken seriously.
How the hell does one publicly hijack vehicles, cause millions in property damage and get away with it?
Yeah, I can agree with that. They had this agruement a while ago with farmers in France. Basically they started importing from other countries because it was cheaper and the farmers dumped that crap because it was and said that you've got us and that it should be grown in France not imported to cut coasts.

I go from not drunk to obscenely drunk, I don't really have the tipsy state that most people have.
Seems like if the local populace doesn't appreciate local wine that's just fair and no call to destroy shit. Can anyone from the region provide more context?
Local food is overpriced and it's cheaper to buy imported products. Local farmers refuse to sell local produce at acceptable price, claim overpricing is caused by the government and supermarket companies fucking them over. Instead, local farmers piss off locals by bullying the concurrence, blocking highways and being a general annoyance, giving the locals even less reasons to buy their produce.

Them, unable to compete with these prices, can't sustain their farms, closing down (for example with milk, they are paid 20 cents the litre, and supermarkets sells it for 1.5€, several times their original value). The few attempts of the farmers to sell their products locally have been met with restrictions and prohibitions from the government since "they might be unsafe" to consume (lobbies pressured to apply that polemic law), which is ridiculous as they use the same process as when they sell it to the supermakets. Also all the local food I buy is always of better quality, and the most important thing: the money spent stays "here" helping the society, doesn't end in the hands of another corporation that avoids taxes. However this act is rude. Fucking with the hard work of others will not help you in anything, even if the whole situation is desperate.
How the hell does one publicly hijack vehicles, cause millions in property damage and get away with it?
It's probably less than 100,000 euros of wine. It's likely low quality and supermarket & restaurant prices are massively jacked up anyway due to taxes.

Don't engage in protectionist measures such as artificially raising the prices of imports with tariffs, or artificially lowering the prices of local goods through subsidies. The first increases costs for consumers, the latter diverts public resources away from other, more useful investments.
sue the cunts.
It's the french, what do you expect? French peasants are always pissed about something...
What is with France and really butthurt farmers?
French don't feel at home until the streets run red I guess.
It's probably less than 100,000 euros of wine. Pretty sure they would arrest me and my hypothetical employer for doing that so why not them?
At least when America did it, it was tea, not good alcohol
Woah the fuck you mean just tea? GB vs American rebel scum part 2 has begun
What a waste. Don't you know that alcohol is humanity's friend? How dare you abandon a friend.
Ive heard of box-wine but never tanker-wine. Why transport it by such spartan means?
