Yeah, smoking stopped being "cool" at the end of the 90s.
A lot of people around 13-23 still do it to be "rebellious".
Sorry Bob but that doesn't mean smokers are social outcasts. That's like saying football (yes american football) fans are social outcasts.
uhhh
have you seen the way people react to smokers nowadays
it's ridiculous
Well I don't drink or smoke. I'm pretty antisocial. Wouldn't say i was unpopular. I just, ya'know, hate people.
oh man
gaahhhhh thats not what depressant means in terms of alcohol, its not referring to emotion at all its referring to how it affects your level of arousal not making you depressed
And saying the high from the alcohol is a placebo. I want some clarification because that's crazy. People get drunk because being drunk is fun dangit.

I gotta say its a little unfair to say that, unless smoking is somehow one of their prime personality traits, whether they smoke or not shouldn't really be a big deal, and I feel that's what happens.

I'm certain most of those smokers have friends, so calling them social outcasts doesn't make any sense. Are people with black hair outcasts too? It sounds like a game of pick something random

But they are still not social outcasts when they are 90% of the students in the schools.

it might be different where you live, but i went through a tonne of shit with my friends when people found out i tried one a while back
i'm serious man

People just don't want to be near heavy smokers in general because you fucking stink.
I just stopped my binge drinking last week. I've partied way too much since High School ended. It's kind of true. I went to a party to test my self into not drinking and I didn't but man everyone thought it was lame I wasn't drinking.
Nobody has respect for not drinking.
I don't care what this possibly bullshit study said, I made a choice not to drink and I'm going to stick by it. I'd rather not throw away hundreds of dollars a month on booze.

So your friends were idiots?
Having smoked on smoke breaks at many jobs over a few years, I've found a large number of people smoke, especially on night shift jobs, and the ones who don't are rarely offended or rarely care about it. The odd one person has outstanding feelings against it, but they're rare.
The real world doesn't react like that

Not always. I know many a "heavy smoker" who don't stink even to people who don't smoke, simply because they take care of their odours.

I've gotten used to the smoking, but I know plenty of people who get offended by it. It sucks because its second hand as well so I don't have a say in it.
Sure, they might be happier, and more popular, but do their grades suffer??
I barcrawled my way through my first year of physics and got 82% at the end
remember kids, alcohol makes you smart (especially when rubbed on open flesh)

the key is to not go out drinking when you have shit to do, btw
this just in, stupid people who p4rty h4rd are more accepted and popular
this is a shining example of someone who has never partied before. partying is fun. you can not like drinking to get drunk or drugs, that isnt the point. going to parties is fun. it becomes more fun when people are drunk because their social inhibitions are gone.
people who compulsively drink and smoke generally aren't pleasant people
What if you binge drink alone?
Drinking and smoking are both disgusting and not even remotely pleasant
I'd rather be at home playing video games.
You one of those guys at parties to stand in the corner drinking slowly wishing you were back home?

PFFFT AHAHAHAHAAH.
No, a lot of bad shit happens during this partying, to every one I've been at that wasn't controlled, someone had to go to the hospital. That lowered inhibitions leads to things like third degree burns and broken limbs or even death. Drinking and partying is fine, but if you can't control yourself, don't go.
Of course you'll be goddamn happy after you drink to try and forget about most of your problems, I wonder if they're being paid to do false studies.
What's the use of all these correlation-without-causation studies? It just happens to be that people who drink more have a more active social life.
1# You could figure that out with reasoning
2# There's no direct causation, so it does not describe a mechanism or anything like that. It's basically a "black box" type of model that explains nothing.

that's rather stupid. having a drink isn't an instant gateway to throwing away "hundreds of dollars a month on booze".
it's just something you do because it makes you a bit more soft, not to mention good liquor has a fantastic taste.
don't be such a child
Smoking doesn't make you a "social outcast", it just divides you. You become less liked by non-smokers and more liked by smokers.
Having my first drinks just last night with some friends, I'd like to say that it's not really enjoyable. For me, at least. Sure, I was with friends, and lots of them, but as the night went on, I didn't even get drunk and my drunk friends became increasingly arrogant and annoying. I ended up hanging out with my sober friends - which was much more enjoyable.

Buying good stuff that doesn't taste like donkey piss is still spending a good amount of money though.
no hes one of those guys who doesn't go to parties
what a WEIRDO

well of course you won't have fun with drunk people unless you're drunk
unless you enjoy prodding drunk people like i do.
Happiness is suddenly defined as "Being so piss drunk every night you can't even remember a second of it"? God damn the bar has sunk pretty fuckin' low.
On top of that, it seems to base things on how socially active people are. This is bullshit in a number of ways. Not everyone enjoys being out in a club or whatnot. I find it to be hell on earth. I never have liked being social, and I'm by far not the only person so inclined. People like me are happier alone or with one or two friends, and they usually don't need to get piss drunk and pass out in a pub bathroom to have fun and be happy.
